Vol. VIII Issue VI February 2012

This is just a small section of the handout we spend praying through during our day of prayer every last Thursday of the month.

From Prayer Journey to an Extended Journey by a missionary serving in a secure field

When you pray, God answers. I’d heard that my whole life. However, I had no idea that sometimes when you pray, God makes you the answer to those prayers. A few years ago I visited an unreached country for a 10day prayer journey. We drove through city after city where there were few or no known Christians. I remember being deeply impacted by the masses of people who had never heard about the Good News of Jesus. I remember the tears I cried for the people I saw and the desire I had for God to reveal Himself to them. I remember driving past shepherds in their fields and wondering who would ever go and tell them about the Good Shepherd who laid down His life for His sheep. I remember praying Scripture over the people and feeling overwhelmed by the millions in bondage to a hopeless, empty religion. reminded of Jesus’ words, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field” (Matthew 9:37-38). So I started asking. I decided to take Jesus at His words, trust Him that the harvest is plentiful, and began asking him to send out workers. During the journey I asked God to send believers to each city we visited. After I returned home I continued to pray for the country I visited. I fasted weekly and persistently asked God to send workers who could share the Gospel with the countless faces I saw. Somewhere over the weeks and months that followed, my prayers began to change. I went from praying, “Lord, please send workers,” to, “Lord, please send me.” I realized that God was answering my prayers

for more workers to go to the abundant harvest field by sending me. I am now living among an unreached people group. I still pray for more workers. I also pray for God to lead me to the harvest I know exists among them. I also thank Him every day for letting me be a part of this incredible journey and to live and work where I do. God changes nations, churches, governments, and authorities through prayer. But I learned that He changes me through prayer. As I began to pray the things that were on His heart, my heart for the nations grew as did my desire to be a part of what God is doing among those who have yet to hear. Pray for my country. Pray for the nations. Pray for the unreached. But also listen. God may want to use you to be a part of answering those very prayers.

Hosting One of the things I love about living alone is when I’m not alone. Many times throughout the year I’m asked to host visitors that come to Emerald Hills for missionary furlough, training, candidate Launch, mission courses, etc. There have been dozens in my home throughout the past five years. Its been an honor and privilege to meet and offer a place of rest to so many amazing women. I thank God for those who give financially so I’m able offer a place to visitors. If you are ever near Louisville, I have a room waiting for you!

20/50 Partnership Three have committed to give $50 a month! Only 17 more churches, Bible school classes, small groups, families, or individuals to join me and help me reach my goal of $950 to cover my monthly budget needs. If 17 more would commit to partnering with me by giving $50 each a month, my ministry would be fully funded. I have a brochure online with information about Team Expansion, myself, my ministry, and my budget. Feel free to share it with people you think would be open to a partnership. Send me an email or call me and let me know of a church or class that I could contact.

Prayer Requests ✤

Praise God for new monthly financial partners! “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field” (Matthew 9:37-38) Lift up our brothers and sisters who are persecuted around the world today. Ask God to give them strength, perseverance, and comfort. We still have not been able to sell our old building on Hopewell Road. Please ask God to raise up someone to buy it soon.

Message from the President As I began this note today, news surfaced about a daring rescue in Somalia. Apparently, U.S. Navy Seals courageously swooped in to rescue two kidnapped aid workers with precision and excellence. This story will likely get global attention. And it should. May God bless these brave young men and women and those who train and lead them. I couldn't help but think that, in a way, I'm equally thankful for Team Expansion's global force of courageous workers who are also trying to effect rescues on a daily basis. Many of them lay aside their careers, their extended families, and their selfish hopes and dreams to provide help and hope (the eternal kind) for those who know Christ least. When you sent a gift in 2011, you sped them on their way. By doing so, you became part of the global effort. "This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of the Lord's people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God." (2Co 9:12) Thank you!
