Roald Dahl!

NEWS

Come and see what’s going on Open sessions in week 9 Drama Clubs in the week from 17 - 22 June will be Open Sessions. Parents are always more than welcome to stay and watch, but there’s safety in numbers so if you want to see what your kids get up to every week stick around for an hour or two and have a chat with us.

Drama Club is celebrating the genius of Roald Dahl!

This term we’re having fun with the Mugglewumps and tackling Miss Trunchbull. We’re even going to extra lengths and growing long beards to be the exact doubles of The Twits!

Just incase you haven’t already guessed, we love Roald a lot. We love him so much that we thought we’d share with you some fascinating facts...

• Dahl’s first book was The Gremlins. • He had a pet goat called Alma.

Walt Disney could not pronounce Roald so he nicknamed him Stalky. He always wrote in pencil on yellow paper.

He was a hurricane fighter pilot in World War II.

• He wrote all of his children’s stories in a small hut at the bottom of his garden.

Henry V & a family show

Jekyll & Hyde is here! “Once more unto the breach dear friends, once more...” This summer will see Creation return to open air Shakespeare to present our very first history play. We’ll be taking on masculinity and nationhood at Oxford Castle Unlocked from 17 August to 14 September. The show we really wanted to tell you about though was our Family Show. On Bank Holiday Sunday at 4pm we’ll be offering free child tickets. We trialled this idea last summer and had lots of families come along for a relaxed Sunday matinee where no one minded if you had to do a bit of whisphering to explain the plot, or someone needed to pop to the loo in the middle. Of course, if you already have plans Drama Clubbers and a sibling get free tickets to see the show anyway, just mention you’re a member when you book over the phone.

This is a special show for Creation - at the end of last summer (the wettest in 100 years) it seemed pretty unlikely we’d have another show to be shouting about this year. We’ve gone for a shorter run (four weeks compared to the usual eight) and we’ve pushed the dates back to much later in the summer where, in recent years, there’s been less miserable rain. We’ve also picked a less obvious title that we hope lots of our Oxford audience won’t have seen before, and won’t be used to being offered the chance to come and watch. As ever, we appreciate every recommendation and poster put up in the local post office. Please spread the word that Creation is still here and still producing live theatre in Oxford.

Creation’s brand new show has opened at Blackwell’s Bookshop! For the next four weeks we’ll be presenting a new one man version of Jekyll & Hyde. Expect spooky victoriana and a fair few top hats as we venture into London’s underbelly. The good news is that the show is suitable for anyone aged 8+ so lots of our Drama Clubbers should be able to make it along.
