From the President’s Desk:
I am so excited to share with you that by the time you receive this month’s newsletter, your Economic Alliance team will be moved into our new home at 501 First St. SE (formerly known as the Science Station). The planning process took many months and at times I wondered if it would ever happen (as most building/remodeling projects go) but I am pleased to announce we are officially in! I couldn’t be more proud of the result! The Economic Alliance’s new home is more than a physical space. The entire project team operated from the philosophy of the space representing a community and region that is smart, innovative and progressive and I am pleased to say we accomplished our goals. As an organization we are a front door for first impressions for residents, visitors, businesses and prospective employees. Equally important is that we are a place where our customers and members of our community and region gather to solve problems, work through issues, plan for the future and celebrate our successes! The space needs to be open, flexible and, most importantly, welcoming for all. An Innovation Center, located on the second floor of what many of us used to know as the IMAX Theater, embraces the changing nature of our global economy. You won’t believe your eyes when you see how we’ve re-purposed an iconic space that has meant so much to our community. The Innovation Center will provide open work space options, conference room capability for innovation teams and leaders to meet, and collaboration spaces for service providers to assist prospects and clients—all overlooking the lovely Cedar River with beautiful views of downtown and Cedar Rapids. We will have a formal grand opening event in the fall once we have a chance to settle in and we couldn’t be more excited to have you join us and utilize the space for many decades ahead! As a customer and a critical stakeholder of the Economic Alliance I invite you to benefit from and enjoy our new home. Regards,
Dee Baird President & CEO
