MARUSHKA KAFKA SO MUCH AS A BACKWARDS GLANCE

FRI 9 FEB - TUE 20 MAR (LAUNCH: 6PM FRI 9 FEB) Winner of the Tanks Curator’s Award at the ENERGY 2017 exhibition, Marushka breaks out of high school with a solo exhibition of paintings, reflecting on the memories and highlights of her senior years. Throughout my last high school years I had been urged to think solely about my future. Although I had many wonderful experiences, I was unable to look back on them. Now that I have graduated I have the opportunity to think about the past, reflect on the wonderful memories I’ve made in these past years and, through this exhibition, express something of my love for Cairns.

The Tanks Curator’s Award is a project of the Year 13+ Program, designed to provide a bridging opportunity for young artists to be supported in the early stages of their practice.

LAUNCH: 6pm Friday 9 February COST: Free VENUE: Tank 4 OPEN: 9am - 4.30pm weekdays, 10am - 2.30pm weekends INFO: www.tanksartscentre.com

JEWISH LIFE IN GERMANY TODAY FRI 9 - SUN 25 FEB (LAUNCH: 4PM SAT 10 FEB) This exhibition combines the historical and contemporary aspects of living as a member of the Jewish community in Germany. Over the past two decades, the Jewish population in Germany has grown from fewer than 30,000 in 1990 to more than 200,000 today. Jewish Life in Germany Today brings these numbers to life. In concise and striking statements visualized with 25 poster panels, Jews explain what living in Germany means to them, how the history of the holocaust influenced their personal

lives, and the dreams they have for their future in Germany. From students to best-selling authors, to rabbis and entrepreneurs, their biographies reflect the diversity of the German-Jewish community today and are a testament to the transformation that Germany has undergone as a nation since WWII.

Jewish Life in Germany Today has been brought to Cairns by the German Honorary Consulate in Cairns.

LAUNCH: 4pm Saturday 10 February COST: Free VENUE: Tank 4 OPEN: 9am - 4.30pm weekdays,10am - 2.30pm weekends INFO: info@tanksartscentre.com or honconsubrdfra@bigpond.com

ROCK

SUNNYBOYS SATURDAY 24 FEBRUARY In 2012 after a 21 year break, Australian power pop/post-punk band, Sunnyboys, re-entered the fray at the behest of the Hoodoo Gurus after agreeing to regroup “just for fun and for old times’ sake.” Six years later and Sunnyboys 2.0 have notched up a resume the envy of any band – contemporary or vintage – including a co-headline appearance to 45,000 people for A Day On The Green 2015; a succession of sold-out shows at Sydney’s Enmore Theatre and the Sydney Opera House plus sold-out shows (multiple times over) in

Melbourne, Byron Bay, Perth and more. Now, due to overwhelming demand, Sunnyboys are on tour and set to play Tanks – their third ever North Queensland trip, only their second ever visit to Cairns and their first time to the Tanks ever! Yew!
