MEET OUR STUDENTS With a passion for golf, Andrew Spooner hopes to get a place on the PGA degree course at Birmingham University. The course requires GCSE English at grade C or above, and as Andrew only got grade D when he did his exams at school, he signed up for a part-time GCSE course at the Paget Road campus. Andrew, aged 23, said: “When you’re 15 or 16 exams don’t really seem important – it’s only when your results are a barrier to what you want to do that you realise they are! “I’m more willing to learn now I’m older and because I need to do well and improve my grade I’m more prepared to work hard than when I was at school. “Studying at college is totally different to being at school and as the course is only one day-a-week I can fit it around my other day-to-day commitments.”

MEET OUR STUDENTS With a love of science, 16-year-old Aswin Jose chose to come to college to continue his education after doing his GCSEs at school. Aswin enrolled on a BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Science, and is also re-taking his GCSEs in Maths and English to improve his grades. Aswin said: “I like Science and want to do well and get good grades. “The course is really good and not only am I learning lots about Science, but it is also helping to improve my English, which is my second language. “College is really different to school, you are treated differently by the tutors and I would recommend it as a good place to study.” After completing the course Aswin hopes to stay at college to do A Levels in Maths, Biology, Chemistry and Physics and then apply to study at university.
