t Health Innovation East, we host the East of England Patient Safety Collaborative, which works with health and care providers to continuously improve patient safety, further building on the foundations of a safer culture and safer systems.
Listening, escalating, acting: turning concern into safer care The patient safety team has worked with NHS hospitals to test and implement and share learning to shape national policy around Martha’s Rule. In 2025–26, we supported staff to embed the rule into everyday practice. By promoting innovative approaches, engaging stakeholders and educating staff at all levels, we helped ensure it is accessible to, and integrated across, NHS sites. We also heard from two patients and their families about activating Martha’s Rule and the impact of being listened to.
