Sakkeer Hussain K, Sales and Marketing Manager, D-Link Middle East & Africa How long have you been exhibiting at GITEX? We have been participating in the show for the past twelve years. GITEX is the most important Information Technology event in the entire MENA region. We believe participating in the event helps our customers and future customers to get a hand on our latest technological innovations. Since the show attracts visitors from all over the region, we also hope it to be helpful with our expansion objectives in virgin markets. GITEX is a launch pad for initiating new solutions and launching new products to the market. Over the years GITEX has also been a good opportunity to meet and greet with our partners to discuss mutual business objectives and plans. What will you be doing special
this year? We will have a new stand this year where we will be demonstrating three key areas, namely consumer solutions, business solutions and structured cabling solutions. We will also show our new range of structured cabling products, new series of chassis switches, 10G network solutions, unified switch solutions and mydlink solutions on IP surveillance. On the consumer side we will have live demos on media players, LTE and HSPA+ devices. We also have several attractive promotions during the GITEX period which will be held at GITEX Shopper and in all major power retailers in the UAE. At the stand, we will be showcasing more than 50 consumer products alone - besides many other solutions for businesses and telecom companies. Additionally, we are
storage solutions, IP cameras, routers, switches, media players, 3G, LTE and HSPA+ devices.
going to give away lots of attractive promotional items. Visitors can come to our stand and grab a gift bag containing plenty of informative brochures and free gift items. Will you be launching any solutions at the show? We will have new products on display in nearly every category including

What are the key trends we can expect in the next two years? There are several technologies gaining momentum in the ICT industry. Smart phones are one example, enabling users to not only communicate in more effective ways, such as over the Internet through Wi-Fi and mobile broadband access, but also to allow them many other functionalities to enhance their personal lifestyles such as acting as a portable media player and file storage device. Tablet PCS are also on the list of key trends, since they are so unbelievably convenient to use. Cloud computing seems to develop some hype as well, due to the great services.
Masahiko Murata, future General Manager of Kyocera MITA Middle East, gives an initial impression of the region as he prepares to take over. You have had a taste of the region already. What is your impression so far? Well, I have been able to witness how very important teamwork and communication are especially in this region. It’s almost as if the region is one big network. A lot of information is being exchanged on a daily basis. Working together closely as a team is crucial here. I am ready to embrace that, all the more so as it ties in perfectly with our corporate philosophy. Dr Inamori encourages partnership as well as transparent management. Is there anything else that you have observed? I can see an enormous business potential in this area. The Kingdom of
Saudi Arabia offers a lot of possibilities, as do Qatar, Bahrain, Oman and Kuwait. And when the economy of the UAE recovers – and I believe it will – there will definitely be many opportunities for our business. What is very interesting to observe is the similarities between Japanese and Middle Eastern cultures. With all due respect for the differences within the region itself, I can see some important common elements. Both in my home country and here, people approach one another with respect, regardless of the other person’s age or position. I think it is very important to be respectful towards our fellow human beings. You’ve been appointed General Manager of KYOCERA MITA
Middle East. What are your plans? It’s a role I am proud and honoured to fulfil and various important tasks await me. What I plan to do first of all is to roll out the KYOCERA Sales Excellence (KSE) methodology. This method is based on a customercentric, so-called pain-based approach. It focuses on solving a
customer’s critical issues, which are referred to as their pain, rather than on trying to sell them a product. The KSE methodology breaks down the sales process into phases and lays down a number of steps that have to be completed in each phase. One of the many merits of this methodology is that it lends an explicit, well-defined structure to a process that for many has so far been intuitive and undefined. Also, the steps that have to be followed for each phase encourage mutual agreement between seller and buyer to be documented at each step so that both parties know exactly where they stand. It is possible to apply this methodology to all sales, even to tenders.

Key storage trends What is reshaping the storage landscape? Traditional methods of storage are proving costly, inefficient and unable to keep pace with client needs; and new, more efficient and intelligent methods of storage are beginning to take their place. The new face of storage for this year looks something like this: 1. Storage as a cloud service gains momentum. As the volume of data grows at an exponential rate--with sources like IDC predicting a growth rate of nearly 60 percent per year--we’re beginning to see a variety of different cloud storage offerings become attractive, including private, public and hybrid
models. All three offer enterprises large scale, better planning capabilities and more flexibility to meet unique user demands; but with growing concerns over the vulnerability of critical information on public clouds, the majority of investment this year will go to the private model. 2. Goodbye storage status quo New solutions are appearing that integrate virtual storage with other virtual system elements to create fully virtual systems, and there is going to be an increase in software aggregation that will lead to large scale, high performance or high
One desktop PC’s B520/530 and 91z/71z for SMB and consumer use respectively and the superstylish U300s Ultrabook, which was recently launched at Fashion Night Out in New York and is on display in the Middle East for the first time. Launched earlier this year, the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 is a phenomenally thin, yet tough, laptop combining performance, mobility and style for business users. The IdeaPad
tablet K1 is Lenovo’s first entry into the tablet market, offering an Android-based device for computing and connectivity on the move, while the compact All-in-One desktop PC offers a space-efficient, sleek and powerful computer for family or small business use. Lenovo is participating through its partner FDC International.
availability solutions for a lower cost. Customers are also going to be seeking improved system efficiencies with real time compression capabilities, de-duplication and data migration.
response to hardware failures, new policies or new business opportunities; and adjust operations of the infrastructure against the business goals and policies, all under one roof.
3. Converged infrastructure These solutions will lead to a converged infrastructure that is held together through service management software. As categorization and automated data placement are used to ensure the right resources are being applied to the correct business need, the demands on storage will only increase. Customers will seek vendors that can offer a layer of service management that is able to integrate with servers, storage, software and networking under one offering. Customers need solutions that can optimize efficiency in the use of infrastructure assets; improve
4. Smart data categorisation There’s also a growing need for more intelligent data categorization, as the amount of data outgrows IT departments’ budget to contain it, and as regulatory requirements become stricter for data security, retention and access. Data must be managed to meet these needs and to fulfill its potential for being used as a tool for business innovation. It will be categorized for optimal placement--with “hot data” that is available and ready to access and “cold data” that can be stored for later use--and it will be tiered to allow clients to manage critical and secondary data differently.
