Article Special: Featuring Rafael Gutierrez

Rafael Gutierrez is one of the most outstanding and well-rounded individuals we have at the College Park Key Club. While being a dedicated and service-oriented member who frequently goes to events on both the division and club level, he’s able to do that while maintaining great relationships with the other members of D26N. People would characterize Rafael as outgoing and amicable with everyone, forming friendships with most of the CP Key Club. In addition, Mr. Gutierrez seems to always be on top of the latest trends and never is seen looking shabbily dressed. Don’t let those looks fool you, though. Mr. Gutierrez has already proven himself through his attendance in Key Club events as someone who is in the club for the service as well and has risen quickly within the officer board, filling in for Ms. Elisha’s Vice President position for the past few weeks. With the upcoming officer elections, let’s find out a bit more about Mr. Gutierrez!

1: Describe your position and what being Vice President means. What do you enjoy the most about it so far?

Being a Vice-President for me is mainly finding events for our members and making the google slides for our weekly meetings. It surprised me how hard looking for events actually was. My favorite part about being VP is how I get to incorporate my own interests into key clubs through service. For example, I am a cellist and I had recently reached out to an organizer from the San Francisco Chamber Orchestra who needed volunteers. I was nervous because I wasn’t sure that anyone would want to volunteer for an orchestra concert. Despite my concerns, some members volunteered at that event! It made me really happy when I was able to spread my love of music to my members and help some fellow musicians!

2: What makes the College Park Key Club stand out compared to the other clubs in 26N?

I think that what makes College Park Key Club stand out from other clubs is the amount of active and dedicated members we have. I’ve been to some division events where almost half of the volunteers are from CP and it makes me so happy knowing how well our club is doing.

3: What has been the most enjoyable Service event you’ve done in Key Club?

The most enjoyable Key Club event that I have attended would probably be all of the Relay for Life events. I got closer to so many friends during these events and had so many laughs. I also love volunteering for organizations that help causes that have personally affected me and many others.

4: Where do you see yourself in Key Club in 2 years or so as a Senior?

I could easily see myself as a VP for a third(ish) term or potentially even being president, but I don’t really like planning that far in advance. I plan to see where my key club career takes me and decide on what to do next from there.

5: Are there any events you’re looking forward to in the coming months?

I am looking forward to DCON in March. It will be my first DCON and I am so excited to go and meet friends from other divisions and make new friends from all over the district. I have heard many things from this event and I have high hopes. 6: What’s your favorite boba place, and what’s your favorite drink to order there!     My favorite boba place is Sharetea in Concord and my favorite drink from there at the moment is the Mango Green Tea with boba, less ice, and 30% sugar.
