ounded in 1942 as the Longford Engineering Company, Lec is now the oldest refrigeration brand in the UK and is currently celebrating its 70th birthday. The company was originally formed by Charles Purley, a fishmonger based in Bognor Regis, who was fed up with the high cost of ice and wanted to develop a refrigeration system to keep his fish fresh and cool. His first refrigerator, made using a CO2 compressor, proved so popular that he abandoned fish and was soon making 27 fridges a week. By the end of the late 1940s, Lec was turning out more than 2,000 fridges a week, had 90 percent of the British export market to Canada and was making inroads into the USA. In 1989 the company was capable of producing 3,000 fridges a day and employed 1,900 people. Lec’s product range is built around the needs of modern family life - whether that means capacity and durability for family homes, compact designs for smaller properties or style and elegance for modern apartments. Lec has always been well known for its niche sizes and models and over the years has built on that strength. Lec has also added value in energy savings, delivering an A+ rating on the majority of its products. The latest addition to the range of A+ rated models is a collection of 55cm designs. Lec is proud to have its complete range of A+ rated products backed by the Energy Savings Trust (EST), the UK’s leading impartial organisation helping to save energy and reduce carbon emissions. The EST symbol represents a smarter choice all round. In fact, whenever a consumer buys a product that features the symbol, they can be sure that it will cost less to run and will be kinder to the environment.

esigned to offer consumers the ultimate in time and labour saving features, Samsung kitchen appliances are big on style and big on the inside - but do not need extra space. Samsung Home Appliances has introduced a range of stylish space saving equipment designed to make life simpler. This machine has an A+++ energy rating and is rated A for spin and wash performance. It has 16 easy to use auto programmes, a top spin speed of 1400 rpm and Samsung’s patented Vibration Reduction Technology, which significantly reduces vibration and noise, improving reliability.

Franke is a leader in kitchen technology and 2012 will continue to see the progress towards creating new and different design motifs. SENSATIONAL SIRIUS Sirius is a new range of coloured undermount sinks that have been designed to look and feel as luxurious as ceramic or Fragranite but at a fraction of the cost. The sinks are made from Tectonite, a new silky smooth material from Franke. Perfect for the super stylish budget conscious customer, Sirius comes in Polar White, Coffee and Carbon Black in a choice of three single bowl models and a one and a half bowl model. Tectonite works perfectly with the new generation of worktops, which are coloured, lighter in weight and easier on the purse than heavy real stone. The sinks are lighter in weight so can easily be supported by these new worktops. “The new Sirius is a perfect example of our aim to offer families across all budgets and materials,” says Product Manager John Swain. “We already have undermounts in ceramic, Fragranite and stainless steel. The five videos can be found by following a link on the home page at www.franke.co.uk. Videos show using the tap to make tea and coffee, how the safety handle works and how easy it is to fit the tank behind a standard 150mm plinth - which has proved to be a real selling point.

16 - DAMIXA
The strong purposeful design of the Elara kitchen mixer reflects its stature as a solid performer. The single lever operation means that the tap can be used with just one hand. Elara has a swivel spout and a single lever ceramic disc cartridge to ensure smooth, effortless operation.
istributed in the UK by Croydex, Damixa brassware combines the best in Danish design with functional, stylish taps that not only look good but have been designed with the needs of the user firmly in mind. The Damixa range which is tailored specifically for the UK market includes 23 kitchen taps, all featuring technological advances and eco friendly performance to fulfil the brand’s “when design makes sense” philosophy. Other innovations include Damixa's X-Change system, which allows Damixa kitchen and bathroom mixers to be changed in less than 20 seconds using just an Allen key and without turning off the water supply.
Striking Slate products are ideal for contemporary kitchens but certainly not minimalist when it comes to features. As well as anti scald and eco functions, the taps are easy to maintain as they have a rubber coated aerator that can be rubbed free of limescale. The Slate range includes Damixa’s revolutionary X-Change unit as standard and comes in a choice of spout options. Slate taps have a swivel spout, a single lever ceramic disc cartridge for smooth, trouble free operation and the adjustable aerator turns through 360º.
Flexible and functional Eris reflects style and contemporary elegance. Eris features the X-Change system, which allows the tap to be changed in seconds without disconnecting the water supply. It has two flow patterns - aerated or needle spray available at the touch of a button. The pull out hose extends to 60cm and the tap automatically returns to aerated spray when the hose is retracted. Eris has a swivel spout and a single lever ceramic disc cartridge for effortless operation.
Characterised by a smooth, flat surface and a perfectly cylindrical body, the Profile series adds a touch of elegance to any modern kitchen. Features include the X-Change system, a swivel spout and a slimline concealed aerator for a smooth splash free flow.
WATER SAVING FEATURES ● Eco-klik gives a positive resistance to prevent the tap being turned to full flow. It can easily be clicked past if more flow is required. ● Eco-save is a water saving cartridge, which can reduce flow by up to 25 percent if adjusted during installation.

s the manufacturer of nearly 1.5 million sinks a year, it is probably not surprising that Reginox can offer its UK customers a range that includes in excess of 150 different models. With a fantastic selection of stainless steel products, including undermounts, inset and integrated sinks, as well as ceramic and granite options, Reginox really does have something for everyone. Reginox also offers an extensive selection of taps, many of them hand picked to complement the company’s sink designs, allowing the homeowner to make a real statement in the kitchen. With waste disposals and a full range of practical and functional accessories also available, Reginox is well positioned to provide the total sink solution. 18 - QUOOKER
leek, stylish and allowing consumers to dispense with the electric kettle, the Quooker boiling water tap has become a kitchen must have. It can be used for everything from making hot drinks to supplying water for cooking vegetables, pasta, boiling eggs and many other tasks. The Quooker was invented by Henri Peteri back in 1970. He was working on the development of instant soup but realised it would never be instant without ready to use boiling water on tap. After many prototypes, his son Niels came on the scene and the idea turned into a product. In 1992, the Quooker Basic tap was launched in the Netherlands and by 2000, Quooker had started to make a profit. The tap was launched on to the UK market in 2005 and has rapidly become a kitchen essential. Although there are many hot taps on the market, Quooker is the only true dedicated 100ºC boiling water tap - and therefore the one that replaces a kettle.
The Quooker Combi New from Quooker is the Combi. The dedicated Quooker tap dispenses the exact amount of water needed at 100ºC while water at 50-65ºC is available via the existing kitchen mixer. It is easy to install and operates from a cold water feed.
020 7923 3355 www.quooker.co.uk 18 • KITCHEN JOURNAL ANNUAL AUGUST 2010
Quooker taps come in four different styles and four different finishes. All of them are easy to install and have full height adjustment with 360º rotation. The taps deliver 100ºC water in a fine aerated spray rather than a direct jet and can only be operated by adult hands so children cannot accidentally switch the hot water on. A Quooker can be retrofitted to an existing kitchen and the tap hole can be cut in any solid surface other than glass. In an area free from limescale the HITAC filter only needs to be changed at three to five year intervals. In areas where limescale is a problem the tank will need to be cleaned out every 12-18 months. Both jobs are easy - and Quooker’s trained engineer force is available to carry out maintenance tasks for a small charge.

A clever mix of storage and low level seating.
ark David has been a distributor of German kitchens for over 30 years and now offers four brands within an impressive portfolio that includes an exclusive range of British handmade furniture called Yesteryear. Brion is the most recent addition from Germany, offering a more affordable option without any compromise on quality. Brion is manufactured by one of Germany’s oldest kitchen producers, but the product itself is very young, having been launched just over 12 months ago. The third generation of owners has displayed significant innovation in developing Brion as a compact range that can remain competitively priced and in adding an innovative handleless option in the form of Brion Pure. Brion has been skilfully co-ordinated so that veneered door options can be offered in the more affordable laminates, allowing an easy swap for the designer without having to rethink colour choices. Brion works on a simple 130mm roster system, uses a unique colour for its buffered Blumotion drawer system and its 54 door finishes can be edged in a choice of three different effects. “The addition of the Brion kitchen range has been an exciting development at Mark David and we are really pleased to see new accounts opening nationwide,” comments Mark Evans, Managing Director. The most difficult commitment for new accounts in the current climate is the initial outlay for a display, so Mark David has developed a new start up kitchen that includes a small display, samples and brochures for just £150. Mark David also offers Nolte, Beeck and Yesteryear.

22 - BULTHAUP
he Milan Furniture Fair is always a major event for bulthaup and 2012 was no exception. This year the company looked at an adaptive system that grows organically in line with the needs of the user. “This concept reflects the new beginning for the brand that we announced back in 2011,” said CEO Marc O Eckert. “Passion and commitment, the values that made bulthaup so strong in the past, led us logically to the organic principle of creating space and function.” The new principle of bulthaup b3 is based on functional prisms - geometric structures that create functional and aesthetic order. These elements create a highly personal look and feel while fulfilling a functional role through drawers and pull outs - and in the future on the walls above worktops. Flexible sliding elements are used to hold in place, organise and provide support wherever necessary. All horizontal elements in the functional wall will, in the future, be steplessly adjustable in both horizontal and vertical planes. Slender modular bulthaup panels will allow for flexible design that mixes visible functional zones with sleek, smooth surfaces. Users will be able to modify the kitchen in line with their ideas and needs. This organic growth is based on the universality and flexibility of bulthaup kitchens, which are ideally suited to any lifestyle and adapt to any culture and culinary tradition.

The new drawer and pull-out system for bulthaup b3 is a considered response to the growing desire among today's sophisticated consumers for greater personal choice and individuality. Created using bulthaup's distinct design language, it offers a unique, unmistakable look and feel. It is a system of fully compatible elements, which sets new standards in terms of form, materials, precision fit and finish, and intelligent function. It is also extremely versatile; for example, it can be installed beneath the cooktop. The uniquely functional height staging of the frames gives the user greater flexibility when it comes to storage. The timelessness of the design opens up new possibilities when it comes to personalising the kitchen space. High-quality materials and precision manufacturing ensure the system is robust and durable. The close alignment with the new bulthaup interior fitting system creates opportunities for a new dimension of sensuality in the design of kitchens.

The biggest change to the Duo range since its launch has been the introduction of nine acrylic decors. Driven by strong consumer demand every acrylic door is available with either matching or 3D glass effect edging and manufactured using Senoplast, which offers superior gloss, levels and scratch resistance.

hether made in Cookstown or in Doncaster, every BA door is manufactured to the highest quality using the best and most up to date plant, procedures and processes. Investment in machinery, systems and people has raised the profile of the Doncaster factory and increased production fivefold. The highly skilled workforce that has worked at Doncaster for many years has, with the stimulus of renewed motivation and investment, responded to the challenge and is producing doors and accessories of the highest quality in large numbers. BA Components Doncaster works with leading retailers and manufactures in the UK across the bedroom, kitchen and bathroom markets. The manufacturing facilities at Doncaster allow BA to produce mdf wrapped decorative furniture profiles, membrane pressed door and drawer fronts, profile framed five piece doors and the recently added sheet laminates. In Cookstown, home of the Bella by BA ranges, production has been increased to cope with rising demand. The choice available both in colour and style and the added benefits of what is probably the best marketing package in the industry have made Bella and BA the ‘go to’ place for high quality, design led vinyl wrapped doors. BA was one of the first suppliers of curved doors to the market and continues to develop the range with horizontal curved doors and frames to make any kitchen or bedroom truly stunning. The introduction of Zurfiz by BA brought the clean lines of a typical top end European kitchen or bedroom look within reach of a wider audience. Now well established and growing in popularity across markets, this stunning and comprehensive collection of made to measure ultra modern doors is available in 13 colour options. To add to the choice and flexibility of the range, the doors are also offered in three edge finishes matching to produce a sold acrylic look, brushed steel for an ultra modern continental feel and a stunning glass effect 3D edge that produces a deceptively real glazed appearance. All the doors are manufactured using 18mm mdf and the surface finishes across the range are a mix of acrylic and PVC materials. To complement the range there is a full selection of accessories including bi-fold doors, curved doors, panels and handles. BA has created a full marketing and advertising support package. New brochures with inspirational roomsets and photography, full POS materials and a wide advertising campaign help BA dealers new and old to promote this stunning addition to the marketplace.

The 38mm Egger Eurospan® worktop F273 ST82 Red Brown Leon Slate combined with H1372 Natural Aragon Oak mfc doors.
s worktops are usually selected once the door choice has been made, it is vital that the two elements should co-ordinate. Egger’s range of worktops aims to make the process as simple as possible by presenting door and worktop combination ideas together for the first time. The development of textures such as Egger’s deep linear ST22 finish and the enhanced quality of the reproduction has led to growth in the use of melamine faced chipboard for frontals. The rise of MFC slab doors is a great example of the trend towards adding both value and quality as they offer a premium level look for an entry level price. This gives kitchen manufacturers the potential to increase sales margins in a challenging market. The trend towards mixing and matching woodgrains with uni colours for door fronts has been met with Egger’s brown/grey and green/grey palettes that have been designed to work with the company’s woodgrains. As this trend continues to grow in popularity within the kitchen market, deciding which colours to combine can be a difficult process. To make it easier, Egger’s design team has put together a number of door suggestions for each worktop in the worktop brochure. Egger offers a choice of worktop thicknesses so whether you want a classic 38mm Eurolight® worktop or an ultra contemporary 50mm Eurolight® worktop, there is a solution for you. Matching splashbacks and upstands are also stocked in the UK in all 20 decors. The range comes with a ten-year guarantee and the prestigious FIRA Gold Award. In comparison to granite and solid wood, Egger laminate tops are easy to care for and maintain. All Egger worktops are PEFC accredited. Egger supports the retailer with a worktop portfolio that contains A4 laminate samples and large application pictures. This is offered in addition to a 48-page brochure and a point of sale stand containing A4 samples.
