Menopause - Beginning of a wonderful new phase of a woman What Is Menopause? Menopause is a natural part of aging. It is the time in a woman's life when she stops having menstrual periods. The lower amounts of estrogen that come with menopause will cause changes in your body. Menopause is different for everyone. Some women notice little difference in their bodies. Others may find it difficult to cope with their symptoms. Menopause is the time in a woman's life when her period stops. It is a normal change in a woman's body. A woman has reached menopause when she has not had a period for 12 months in a row (and there are no other causes, such as pregnancy or illness, for this change). Menopause is sometimes called, "the change of life." Leading up to menopause, a woman's body slowly makes less and less of the hormones estrogen and progesterone. This change often happens between the ages of 45 and 55 years old. What Are the Symptoms of Menopause? The most common symptom is that menstrual periods appear less and less frequently, or, in some cases, "irregularly irregular" until they stop altogether. Many women have the typical symptoms of menopause: Hot flashes, Night sweats, Irritability, Moodiness, Sleep disturbances, Vaginal dryness, Decreased libido, Hair coarseness/loss, Vaginal and Urinary Tract Changes, Bone and Other Body Changes, Emotional Changes, Sexuality Menopause Stages: 1) Peri menopause- begins several years before. 2) Menopause- is when a woman has gone 12 consecutive months, without a period. 3) Post menopause- at this stage the symptoms, start letting up for most women. Menopause Cure: 1) The Gynecologic Visit: You should visit your doctor once a year to have regular exams and tests. Some tests for women ages 40-65 years: Pap test, Fecal Occult Blood test, Mammogram, Sigmoidoscopy. 2) Hormone Therapy: Hormone therapy replaces female hormones no longer made by the ovaries.
3) Other Therapies: There are some other options for preventing bone loss, such as bisphosphonates or selective estrogen receptor modulators (SERMs) 4) Staying Healthy: • Exercise regularly. • Eat a balanced diet that contains enough calcium. • Visit your doctor for routine checkups.
