Newnan Presbyterian Preschool & Kindergarten 16th Annual Holiday Food Sale Thursday, November 15th 9:30am at the Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall Newnan Presbyterian Preschool & Kindergarten’s Annual Holiday Food Sale will have many frozen homemade items to choose from; however, we know that many people cannot be here at 9:30am to purchase them. Therefore, this year, you, your friends and family can pre-order from a select menu, and pick up these items between 5pm and 7pm on Thursday, November 15th. This is an easy way to help the preschool raise money, and you will have frozen food items to pull out of the freezer during the hectic winter months, or to serve company during the holidays. If you cannot make it to the holiday food sale, please considering pre-ordering from the following menu: • Poppy Seed Chicken Casserole $25 • Ham Tetrazzini $25 • Meatballs with noodles and pasta sauce $18 • Pecan Pie $15 • Cinnamon Rolls $10 • Biscuits $8 • Hot Cocoa mix $8 • Peppermint Hot Cocoa Mix $8 It’s so easy! If you cannot attend, but would still like to enjoy the delicious homemade food, simply email your order, and mail in your check to NPP by Friday, November 2nd. Then, we will have your food items ready for you to pick up, in the Fellowship Hall (at the Newnan Presbyterian Preschool, located at 38 Greenville Street, downtown Newnan), between 5pm and 7pm, Thursday, November 15th. Other great things about this food sale is there will be opportunity to buy raffle tickets for baskets ranging in theme from board game, Princesses, sports, Shop ‘til you drop, superhero and many more. We are also raffling off a ham! Email order (and/or questions) to: nppparentcouncil@gmail.com Please make checks payable to: NPP Parent Council Mail to: 38 Greenville St., Newnan, GA 30263

7345 Red Oak Rd., Union City • (770) 254-8612

Volunteers play a vital role in the support of our patients and their families. Support is given in many ways – sitting at bedside to relieve an exhausted caregiver, performing small tasks in the patient’s home, reading to a patient, or spending time with a patient and their family as a “friendly visitor”. No special skills are needed but a passion to serve others is desired. Please call Mary at 678-817-4180 if you have questions about our program or if you would like to attend volunteer training.

Volunteers for Affinis Hospice All you need is a caring heart! Your involvement will communicate value to these patients and their families as you provide companionship and a brief respite for caregivers. You will not need to provide any medical or physical care to the patient, just a caring heart and a listening ear. You can provide caregiver relief for 2-4 hours each week to allow the caregiver to enjoy time out of the home. You can use your gifts and talents to impact someone in their last stages of life in many ways, and we will make sure you are welltrained, equipped, and supported. Please call Lynn Yeager 404832-4232 with interest or questions.

Staging a Historical Home to Sell Get Away Home and Great Hunting Tract!

46.5± acres with 3 bedrooms, 1 bath on 4+ acre private lake, hardwood floors, central heat and air. Heavily wooded, mature timber. Located in Troup County, Mountville area. Call Jared Jones for all the details. 706-333-7202 (Broker/Owner)

We are fortunate citizens to live in a city that is known as “The City of Homes”. Unlike many towns in the state of Georgia, much of Newnan was spared the ravages of the Civil war. Both Union and Confederate hospitals were set up in some of our most beautiful homes, therefore, leaving us with an abundance of homes that are considered Historic Homes. As home stagers, we talk about making your house appeal to the largest pool of buyers, however, staging is a different kind of animal when you are dealing with a historic or period home. Most historic homes sell to a specific kind of buyer that is usually looking for original character and architectural details that aren’t found in a subdivision or newer home. Here are a few ways to put the focus on a historic home’s distinct features

W ard LaW Office 770.251.1289

and appeal to the most likely buyers. Clear out the clutter. Historic homeowners tend to be collectors and aren’t always aware how cluttered and crowded this look can become over time. Show off the good bones and special moldings of the house by clearing away the clutter and arranging furniture to highlight the selling features of the house.

Emphasize the architecture. Tone down the patterns and ornate decor to show off the architecture. Careful use of color can draw attention to the fabulous moldings and features that a buyer for a period home desires. Remove fussy window treatments. Take down the heavy draperies, festoons and swags. This will reveal the beauty of the window trim and let in more natural light. Have more current furniture and accessories through-out the house. Antique furniture, lighting and decor can often feel more like a museum to a buyer and make it more difficult to imagine themselves living in the house. Most of these are not very expensive tasks and can make a tremendous difference in helping you succeed in selling your unique property. The pool of buyers for these types of properties are not as large as the one for newer or subdivision homes, so take advantage of having a “captured” audience with every showing and prepare your house to sell quickly and for top dollar.

The Armchair Gardener T hanksgiving At Plymouth, the Pilgrims and Indians celebrated the harvest. American families today continue to show our gratitude for the many blessings we have, including the bounty of harvest time. Gardens, orchards, fields, and woods abound with treasures as well as our Fall flower gardens. Fruits, vegetables, grains, seed pods, brightly colored leaves, brilliant berries, and Fall blooming flowers, such as dahlias, asters, and chrysanthemums evoke the Harvest season. It seems only natural to bring all of these elements into our homes to decorate at this time of year. Fall harvests bounty is the theme. Autumn’s colors range from reds to golds to oranges to rust to maroon and brown. Textures may be rough, crinkly, ribbed, woolly, dried, or even smooth depending upon placement, container, and/or occasion. Found objects such as feathers, antlers, rocks, old ropes, old tools, used barbed wire, or weathered wood could be included. Burlap is a good choice of fabric. For line material consider using cattails, corn stalks, bare branches, sorghum seed heads, dried corn tassels, dried mullein or dock, tall stalks of dried okra, or sugar cane. Sumac, pyracantha berries, magnolia pods, china berry tree sprays, tallow tree sprays, cotton bolls on stalks, Beauty berries, golden rod, various grass seed heads, rabbit tobacco, pine cones, slabs of bark, mosses, bracket fungus, and grape vines combine well for Fall. Hickory nuts or pecans can be drilled and wired and bunched to resemble grape clusters. Peanuts can add interest to designs. Magnolia leaves can be trimmed to shape and size desired and glued around a small cone to create a flower form. Osage oranges add a pop of green and texture. Mechanics are important! Oasis, Sahara, crushed chicken wire, needle point holders, wire, and tape can secure placement of materials. Fruits and vegetables can be impaled on slim wooden picks or skewers. Grapes can be wired on to short branches or tied onto wooden sticks. Hot glue is useful. Toothpicks work for small items. Containers of wood, pewter, copper, iron (either rusted or black), tin, brass, pottery, antique scales, wooden bases in various shapes, baskets, and vines woven into shapes make suitable choices. Pumpkins, gourds, eggplant, or squashes can be hollowed out to hold a container of water or oasis. Order is a part of Nature’s plan and good design. Choose only one line, one form, one color, and one texture to be dominant. Add lesser amounts of different plant materials for contrast and to add interest. For the dining table, at a seated meal, try a low horizontal design such as the traditional cornucopia (horn of plenty) or a tray or platter or board with fruits, vegetables, grains, flowers, and leaves spilling out [protect tablecloth]. Use your creativity and imagination to bring the bounty of your garden and land into your home this Thanksgiving.
