47 Rick Dillingham (1952-1994; USA) Tall Vessel ca 1980 ht. 17.5, dia. 9 in. Signed and dated on base. Dillingham was known as much for his contemporary ceramics as for his scholarship of the pottery traditions of the North American Indian and published classic texts such as “Acoma and Laguna Pottery” and “Fourteen Families in Pueblo Pottery”. This ‘shard’ vessel grew out of his restoration work at the Laboratory of Anthropology in Santa Fe. His works are broken and decorated with glazes, gilded or painted before reassembling. His work can be found in the collections of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Mint Museum of Craft and Design, and Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
