Books for Babies to Celebrate the Love of Reading The Dayton Right to Life Foundation offers a wide variety of support to teenage girls who have an untimely pregnancy. The Dayton Right to Life Stork’s Nest Baby Pantry offers free assistance to parents who find themselves unable to provide basic needs to their children. In addition to the Stork’s Nest Baby Pantry, each month Dayton Right to Life hosts baby showers for expectant mothers within the community to reach out and celebrate their decision to “Choose Life.” Books for Babies would build an ongoing library of books for clients to take when they visit the Stork’s Nest Pantry. This library would allow clients to take a new book home every other month to read to their child. Books for Babies would also give out a book as a gift during the monthly baby showers held within the community. During the month of February, we will be collecting new and used children’s books. There will be bins in the entry way starting February 5th - 18th. Your donation of one book can change a child’s life forever. Thank you!

HEARTS & HANDS SCOUT MISSION Join us after fellowship on February 4, Scout Sunday, as we hold our next Hearts & Hands Mission with our local Cub Scouts. ANNUAL MEETING! An Invitation to Coffee and Conversation One of my favorite parts of serving as your Director of Ministries is to provide new opportunities for congregants to learn and discuss new ideas together. Beginning on January 7 on Sunday mornings at 9AM in the Youth Room, we have implemented a new program into the Sunday morning routine here at Covenant referred to as “Coffee and Conversation.” While we haven’t quite gotten the coffee part down (our new coffee maker caused us some problems last week), our conversations have been excellent as we dig deeper into questions surrounding Epiphany, the sacraments, and marking time in the Christian calendar. Inspired by Sarah’s sermon last week about Philip extending the invitation Nathanael to “come and see” Jesus of Nazareth, I would now like to extend a personal invitation to each one of you to “come and see” what God is doing at Coffee and Conversation on Sunday mornings. Also, if your schedule allows, we would love to see you at Bible Study on Wednesday mornings at 10AM, one of the small groups that will be launching February 19-24, or at our monthly Pub Theology gatherings.

Looking Ahead to Lent and Beyond It’s already February! I don’t know about you, but after this extremely cold January that we’ve had I am looking forward for February, March, and beyond. This upcoming month at CPC we have much to look forward to. Our Annual Congregational Meeting will be on Sunday, February 11, coupled with a “Fat Tuesday” themed pancake breakfast. Some of our mission trip participants will be helping out with this, and we will have the opportunity to give a donation for our upcoming Intergenerational Mission Trip this summer to McDowell County, West Virginia, July 22-28. Did I mention we already have 16 folks of all ages signed up for the summer mission team? God has been and continues to do incredible things with this outreach component of our church’s ministry, and I’m so very thankful. Speaking of Fat Tuesday, this year, Ash Wednesday falls on February 14, marking the start of the Lenten Season for 2018. This year will mark our third noontime Ash Wednesday service. If you are available on that Wednesday (and even if you have to take a longer lunch break), I would encourage you to try and make it out for this special service. On Thursday, February 15, Susan Stewart, Dave Siegler and I will be headed down to Colombia to make connections with some of our Presbyterian friends, learn more about what God is doing with the Colombian Presbytery, as well as to visit with our sister church in Pital. We will be joining several other pastors and ruling elders from churches in our Presbytery for this Leadership Development trip. While down there, one of our goals is to strengthen our relationship with our sister church, with the hope of pursuing future partnerships down the road, as we consider taking a larger group of CPC folks back down for a trip in 2019 or 2020. Please be in prayer for Susan, Dave, and me as well as the rest of the team. On the week of Feb. 18-24, we will also be launching our Lenten small groups, which will be meeting at different times throughout the week. This year’s Lenten study is entitled, “No Wonder they Crucified Him”, as we go on a journey with Jesus and study some of the more controversial aspects of his earthly ministry. The study is available electronically or via printed off hard copies, at no cost to you. Stay tuned for more details, and I hope you’ll consider being a part of a small group as we seek to grow closer in our relationship with God, and our relationships with one another. Thankful to be here, and looking forward to journeying with you into this Lenten season and beyond! In Christ,

Pastor Sarah
