The per capita (some call it a “head tax”) is a voluntary contribution each congregation of the PC(USA) is asked to contribute to the Presbytery, Synod, and General Assembly in order to support the missions and ministries of the larger church. You can help with our operating needs by paying your share ($26.77 per member). Simply use the small blue envelope found in the front of your 2014 box of envelopes, include your gift in your regular weekly offering (just mark the per capita amount on the “other” line on the envelope) or include a separate check with “per capita” noted in the memo space. Thanks for your ongoing support of the missions and ministries of the PC(USA).

By the time you read this, two important activities will be nearing their completion, namely the Community Interviews and the E-100 Bible Reading Challenge. Perhaps you are wondering what each one has to do with the other. Perhaps you are asking, “What’s next?” I hope so. First, where do the E100 challenge and the community interviews connect? Both are opportunities for us to develop an everyday sort of relationship with God. The apostle Paul put it this way in his letter to the Romans. So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life— your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you. Romans 12:1-2 The Message By now we are much closer to having a daily Bible reading habit and a much closer relationship to God in Christ through the reading, reflecting on, and applying of God’s Word. Let’s keep going! The Adult Ministry Team is working on another step that we can take together. Stay tuned for more information on the website and in the Sunday worship bulletin. Second, with the first wave of Community Interviews completed, the Mission Study Task Force has summarized them and is ready to host some conversations around their discoveries. The purpose of these conversations is threefold… to keep everyone in the loop so no one group gets too far ahead of the rest of us… to get feedback and answer questions on their initial impressions… and to begin formulating a response to the first question of the Mission Study Report, namely, “Where is God active in our world?” I hope that you will take advantage of these opportunities and help us gain a clearer vision for the future. In other words, we want to continue to be blessed in order to be a blessing to others… and we need your help to do just that. Again, listen to these words from Scripture. Take them to heart. They describe the primary intention of the mission study process quite well. If people can't see what God is doing, they stumble all over themselves; But when they attend to what [God] reveals, they are most blessed." Proverbs 29:18 The Message Thanks for sharing the journey. Grace and Peace, Lee
