Launch of Full Circle Project Saturday 12 March, 2 – 3.30pm Admission Free Leamington Spa Art Gallery & Museum will be co-hosting a screen heritage event with the Media Archive for Central England to launch the Full Circle Project in Leamington Spa, on Saturday 12 March at 2 – 3.30pm. Do you have any film, video or dusty old reels tucked away in your attic or garage? These are a vital part of the region’s heritage, whether they capture family moments or events and news stories. With the help of 60 local groups, The Media Archive for Central England (MACE), is looking for these old films and videos. This is part of a Heritage Lottery funded project called Full Circle, to uncover the hidden filmed heritage of the Midlands. When film or video footage is found, MACE will discuss the making of copies of deposited material with the owner and with the community. The Full Circle project will ensure the long term preservation of the original films so that they can go on being used by future generations. Kay Ogilvie, Senior Curator at MACE and Full Circle Project Organizer, explains ‘Moving images have now been around for over 100 years. They have recorded the way we live and entertained us throughout the 20th century and into the 21st. Our history is reflected in these images and cultural artefacts and the loss of even a small percentage of them is a loss that we all feel. This is why MACE is committed to ensuring that the moving image heritage of the Midlands is preserved for future generations to enjoy and study. We need your home movies!’ The programme for Saturday 12 March will start at 2pm with an introduction by Kay Ogilvie. This will be followed by a screening of archive films showing Leamington Spa from the MACE collection. Popcorn and refreshments will be provided. It will also be possible to bring in any reels of film found in the attic or elsewhere for Kay to have a look at. Vicki Slade, Social History Curator at Leamington Spa Art Gallery & Museum, ‘Everybody who is keen on historic moving images is welcome and hopefully visitors will bring in loads of material for Kay to have a look through! We are delighted to be part of this project; home movies provide a unique insight into the history of an area.’
