NELSON RESIDENCE The Nelson Residence is a small single-family home influenced by modernism aesthetics and elements with a personalized touch. The design inspiration came from the historic designers Mies van der Rohe and Le Corbusier, as well of characteristics of modernism, such as simplicity/clean lines, the use of the neutral colors of black, grey and white, and the use of glass, metal and leather.

SHARED HOUSING RESIDENCE Located in Pittsburg, Kansas, Greta Fletcher and Elaine Schmidt wanted to maintain their traditional German roots as well as create a space that they are able to age in place in. An open floor plan in the public space allows for easy gathering and entertaining, and a separate space with their own personal bedroom and bathroom allows for them to decompose in private. Traditional elements were incorporated such as, light hardwood flooring, wood furniture, casement windows, shutters, German Schmear brick exterior and the popular colors of blue and yellow. Aging in place was incorporated by creating larger bathrooms with low threshold showers and comfort height toilets as well as efficient lighting levels, accessible heights of countertops and appliances and easy to use levers on faucets throughout the house. Energy efficiency and sustainable practices were implemented throughout the space from materials, appliances and building materials.

NAHB STUDENT COMPETITION

The objective of the competition was to create a subdivision in the growing area of Coweta, Oklahoma. Our development team’s end goal was to create a community for every phase in a person’s life to allow an individual the opportunity to start and grow in the same community that they love. This was achieved by creating a community with row homes, duplex’s, small single-family homes and large single-family homes. As a member on the product development team, I was responsible for the creation and design of the large homes that are to be placed in the subdivision. As well as creating homes to fit a growing community each house had upgrade options to suit the needs of any individual, couple, or family.

ORGATEC BOOTH DESIGN - THE HIVE Creating a coworking space that is inviting, visually dynamic, engaging, and inspiring to all cultures. ‘The Hive’ was designed to impact, engage, and enhance designer’s inspiration while visiting the IIDA booth at Orgatec 2018. The use of the strongest color, yellow, was used to draw attention and attract visitors to enter the space and engage with others. The open concept was designed to create a coworking space that is beneficial for inspiration and to engage in conversation, no matter where they are throughout the space. A modern setting with the use of clean lines and natural colors were used to bring together cultures and create an impact. Drawing inspiration from the Beehive, we incorporated hexagons to add a unique feature and abstract dimension. A beehive is a central location for all bees to come to, we used this to design ‘The Hive’, A central location for all designers to come, engage, inspire, recharge, and enhance their wellbeing.

OVER THE CREEK LOGO DESIGN Over the Creek Daycare was in the need for a new logo for their business. The goal was to create a logo that fit their needs as well as conveyed the correct message and to create a logo that is perceived well by potential customers. This logo was created by going through the four-step design process of discovery, planning, creative and application. The colors were selected to match the nature theme of the business, the painted hand prints were used to represent a hands-on approach and intimate presence within the daycare and the font was used to tie in the nature theme and the playful vibe. This logo was selected by Over the Creek Daycare to be used in the future.
