Taken From Time

The Delve is a modern, boutique hotel located at the outskirts of downtown Boulder and foothills of the Flatiron Mountains. The Delve abstractly alludes to Boulder’s western industrial mining history, mountainous location, abundant local materials like stone and wood, and vibrant people. The hotel is secluded enough to serve as a mountain retreat but close enough to downtown to attract locals and tourists alike. The Delve’s warm and welcoming atmosphere, modern industrial yet timeless design, and beautiful setting will make it stand out from the crowd. MAIN LOBBY

CEILING TREATMENT

The lounge, located on the Western side of the hotel, overlooks the mountains with unobstructed views to the scenery and evening sunset while dining at night.

The ceiling treatment, a cutout metal, alludes to a sluice box filter used for gold panning in order to separate gravel and rocks from gold.

INSPIRATION DESIGN

Chinese Elegance

China Study Abroad

Shénmì means “mystic” in Chinese. The sensory stimulatory design incorporates modern elements, traditional Chinese design screening, and feng shui to add an elegant yet mystical ambiance. Luxury materials, natural elements like plants and stone, and intimate dining settings provide guests with an outright luxurious fine dining experience. The use of screens, low lighting, and traditional design spark curiosity but allow the gourmet food to remain the focus. ENTRY & HOST

Screens, traditional in Chinese design, are used throughout to define the dining areas and create more intimate settings. Circular tables are a key element in Chinese culture.

The logo resembles the yin and yang symbol and a koi fish. It remains unfinished to reiterate a mystical quality.

Urban Oasis

The design for the UW Credit Union E-Commerce Center re-imagines the building’s second floor to transform it into a fun yet functional office space. Bright colors chosen via color psychology, organic elements, and the maximization of natural light and outdoor views hint at an urban rooftop garden.  Varied workstations, flexible meeting spaces, and respite destinations are dispersed throughout.  Sound control is addressed by dropped acoustical grids, ACT ceilings above the workstations, removable desk partitions, and Filz Felt acoustic wall panels.  Private offices are centrally located to allow for easy connectivity between the director, managers, and employees. Areas for personalization, like the picture wall, will help employees adapt to the new environment.

COMMUNITY SHARE

The garage doors open out onto ‘Seattle’s Front Yard’. When the large conference room is use, the door can easily be shut. When it is not reserved, the door can open so anyone can spill in and out of the space to work.

The Community Share space is the hub of the co-working office. It functions as a community table for individual and collaborative work while also providing a space for larger work functions like office parties, networking events, and showcases.

OPEN OFFICE Hanging shelves are located above each workstation for personal belongings and reference materials. Since the majority of Pool’s users will be self-employed, or entrepreneurs, the open office is key for providing spaces for individuals to interact and reduce workplace loneliness.

MATERIALS & FINISHES

WORK CAFE The garage door concept is used on the conference rooms. The medium conference room is closely connected to the work cafe allowing for seamless transition from a meeting to post-work appetizers. The concept hopes to encourage interactions among all members of Pool Co-working.

DESIGN

Fresh Farmhouse

The Horse Barn Apartment, built in 1868, is a proposal for an adaptive reuse building that was once home to horses, cattle, and sheep. Currently, the proposal is to transform the Barn into apartments for visiting professors and graduate students who come to work at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Reclaimed elements are used throughout the design but are given new life via a fresh outlook. The design celebrates the background of the building through the farmhouse style achieved by the use of shiplap, bead board, wood, and naturally light and bright colors and patterns.

This mural was designed for the expansive wall located in the patient transport elevator lobby. The goals for the design were to create a bright and happy scene that would appeal to children of all ages. The mural was design similarly to an “eye-spy” game. Each level of the scene has fun details from ducks splashing in water to a sheep flying a plane. This allows for children of different ages, heights, and abilities to enjoy and experience the mural to the fullest.
