Brief Overview: Welcome to ‘Wild Beasts’ – French for Fauve. The Movement of Fauvism was mostly associated with Henri Matisse (1869-1954) and the main period of the movement happened 1905-08. You will be able to research the movement and artists involved. I would like you to look at the portraiture of Fauvism. A key work is ‘Madame Matisse with green stripe’ from 1905 by Matisse. Your research will take the form of notes and a powerpoint presentation on an artist chosen at random. In the second week I would like you to bring in a colour photograph of yourself and you will be able to produce a self portrait using your knowledge of Fauvism. In week 3 you will produce a study of a painting by the artist researched for your powerpoint and we will finish off the project with a group critique on the portraits.
