Jeffrey Hull started painting in his teens but focused on watercolor 50 years ago and never looked back. His command of painting and love for the Pacific North west Coast places viewers of his work right into scenes of sandy beaches and dramatic cliffs draped in coastal mist.
For over 35 years, Jeff and his wife Carol have been offering his paintings of the beautiful coast to both seasoned and brand-new collectors in their spacious second-floor gallery at Sandpiper Square in the heart of downtown Cannon Beach. Looking back fondly, Hull remembers ‘we were just kids’, when he speaks of opening the tiny 350-square foot space back in 1987. Over time, both the gallery and Jeff’s paintings have grown; he’s added oils to his repertoire; and he also now proudly produces his own high-quality reproduc tions in a beautiful space designed to showcase his work. If you haven’t been to the gallery (or haven’t been lately), stop by over the weekend and enjoy the Hulls’ warm hospitality and see fresh work by this gifted artist.
Featured painting Not A Whisper - With so many breathtak ing vistas and magi cal moments, it’s no wonder people feel the tug to return to our Pacific Wonderland.
Likewise, how could I not be inspired to paint a moment this beauti ful? This stately Sitka Spruce greeted us until recently and now lays on the ground below Silver Point, yet another result of the harsh weather meted out during our winter storms. I debated including it in this painting and went so far as to paint it on a piece of shrink wrap stretched over the surface as a visual experiment. After careful consideration, in my
opinion it added what was needed to complete the composition and the story. With the sun just above the horizon on this glassy evening there was a suggestion of wind off in the distance, but not a whisper on the beach below. - Jeffrey Hull

Bronze Coast Gallery has been in operation for 30 years and represents over 40 artists from the northwest and beyond. We offer a wide variety of sculpture, from classic limited-edition bronze to unique and innovative contemporary artwork, as well as unique paintings. We are delighted to participate in Cannon Beach’s annual Stormy Weather Arts Festival, where our gallery will be hosting five of our remarkably talented artists.
Dan immigrated with his parents from China to the United States in 1984, attended school in San Francisco, California and now lives in Eugene, Oregon. Dan’s art involves nature and wildlife in both paintings and sculptures. Our gallery mainly highlights his bronze sculptures, and each piece is an exquisite and masterful expression of form, movement, personality, and energy.
David was born and grew up in the pacific Northwest and received his degree from Eastern Oregon University in 1979. He now resides in Halfway, Oregon working primarily in bronze. David works in his studio and foundry to create limited edition bronze sculptures that are incredibly detailed and complex yet speak of the simple emotions of life such as joy or sadness.
Jim grew up in El Paso, Texas and later moved to Lubbock, Texas where he began his art career. He earned his degree from Texas Tech University, but much of his study came outside of the classroom with wildlife observation and photography. His bronze sculptures, mainly of animals, highlight subtle movement and have incredible life like detail.
Robert grew up in Texas and attended Texas Tech University, beginning his career in fine jewelry making. His inspiration comes from Native American art, Oriental art, European art, and Indian lore. He creates his pieces from wax molds then filled with silver or bronze, and the result is highly detailed jewelry blended with spiritual and mystical symbolism.
Hans immigrated from Germany to the United States in 1962 and got his degree from the University of Hartford Art School in Connecticut. He taught at universities in Connecticut and later Kansas while his art was gaining attention on the east coast. In 1982 Hans moved to Portland, Oregon and since then has been painting full time, using his own proprietary medium, to create beautiful landscapes.

Celebrating paper and mixed media artist who use innovative techniques in their cre ations
Valerie Savarie creates one of a kind relief sculpture from vintage books by cutting pages one at a time to reveal shapes, imagery and new narratives. Her pieces are embel lished with embroidery, found objects and original characters painted in gouache.
Helga Winter creates sculptural paintings and book art made with fabric, paper, bees wax and natural objects. Her works pay homage to the connection between trees and paper, and the interconnectedness of the natural world.
New Artist Dmitri Swain uses a multitude of materials in his architectural sculptures. His delightful assemblages utilize materials such as plaster, wood, paint, clay, and repur posed cardboard to render worn and weathered structures that are inhabited by playful creatures. Swain is a local Cannon Beach artist, this is his first exhibition at White Bird Gallery.
Barb Campbell is a long-time gallery artist loved for the colorful pottery she has been creating for decades. This brand new body of work on panel uses handmade paper collaged into encaustic paintings. The series “Estudio de la Naturaleza” recalls intimate moments in nature and her time living in Mexico.
Robert Schlegel (1947-2021) began creating figurative work late in his career. The gestural renditions often use old book pages and ledger paper as a backdrop for his col orful subjects. These expressive works on paper capture the spirited side of humanity.
Robin & John Gumaelius are a husband and wife team who collaborate seamlessly on narrative whimsical sculptures made of clay and steel. For this show the duo created a new flock of story birds and other small works in their signature style.

The Sesame and Lilies Upstairs Art Gallery, located on the second floor of the Cannon Beach Mall, features paintings by Diane Speakman and her daughter, Rachel Speakman. Both artists work in oil on canvas and hardboard. Diane specializes in landscapes, still-lives, and animal portraits. While their work often overlaps, Rachel specializes in animal forms, birds being her main focus. The use of a moderate palette to render the soft hues of the northwest coast gives Diane’s work an impressionistic feel, which mixes seamlessly with the curated spaces of Sesame and Lilies. Her interest in the works of the old masters, impressionism, and plein-air painting drive her stylistic choices. Her new works include seascapes of the Oregon and Maine coasts, still-lives, and animal portraits. Rachel’s work, on the other hand, reflects the influence of a younger generation of artists. She employs her own brand of stylized realism in her animal paintings (and sculpture) that take an edgier approach in both form and color. She is a graduate of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. You can view more of her work online at rachelspeakman.com and her card and print line at sesameandlilies.com. More of Diane’s work is available to view online at sesameandlilies.com.
