June 28, 2012

Dear Students, It is with some mixed feelings that I am sitting down to write this letter; I regret that I have not personally had a chance to say goodbye and wish you well. Earlier this month, I was very fortunate to have had an offer to work at Greenwood Secondary School as the Assistant Curriculum Leader of Guidance; I will begin there in September 2012. It is an exciting position for me as I will be working with newcomers to Canada. Before I came to Danforth, I was an ESL teacher, so this job brings together my two passions: ESL and Guidance. Please believe me when I say that it was a very difficult decision to leave Danforth. My connections with staff and students in the Danforth community have been strong. I have been priviledged to share in many of your stories and to help you make choices for your educations and your futures. Thank you for allowing me into your lives – I have learned a great deal and have been inspired by the strength so many of you have shown when faced with adversity. I have also marveled at the achievements so many of you have had in the school and community. I wish you well as you learn more, grow wiser and make choices that will move you ahead positively. If you would like to stay in touch, feel free to send me an email at Melissa.hurst@tdsb.on.ca Sincerely, Ms Hurst
