Tours El Triunfo Secret of the mines Located 25 miles south from La Paz , the mining of gold and silver near El Triunfo dates back to the late 1800's. It was once the largest city on the Baja peninsula, a mix of native, Italian, French, English North Americans, German and Chinese, in a peak time the place had over 14,000 inhabitants. Silver production began to decline in the 50's and the pueblo nearly vanished by the early 70's. Today it has a population of 4000 residents and some silver mining still persists in the area. The tall chimney, symbol of El Triunfo is considered to be an engineering wonder, designed by Gustave Eiffel. Much of the red brick that it’s used today across Baja Sur, was reclaimed from the smelters after they were shutted down. The brick was specially manufactured in England more than a century ago. The Piano Museum is a must visit , in the early 1900's piano playing became very vogue in the pueblo and it boasted the largest population of pianos per capita of any city in Mexico. When you imagine what a trek it was to deliver a piano to this isolated mountain community that fact becomes even more impressive. Today the pueblo is in renaissance and many original building are being restored. El Triunfo is a step back in time to a slower pave of life and a true example of rural life in Baja The Pantheon (cemetery) is indicative of the beautiful culture of the area and can be seen from the highway when entering town.

Tours Gray Whale Watching (January – March) After spending the summer feeding in Alaska, gray whales begin their incredible migration south to winter in Baja California . They travel for 2-3 months to reach the warmer southern waters where they will mate and birth from mid-January to end of March. Large numbers of grays congregate in 3 bays along Baja's west coast; Laguna Ojo de Liebre, Laguna San Ignacio and Bahia Magdalena (the southernmost bay, only 3 hours drive across peninsula from La Paz). These shallow and highly-salinated bays increase newborn calves' buoyancy and help keep them warm, despite their lack of protective blubber at birth. As fellow mammals, gray whale calves are born live and nurse their mothers' milk, which is 50% fat (the gain 60 pounds per day diet!). Here, gray whales will sometimes swim near small skiffs and allow themselves to be touched. Concern has grown about the impact of boat traffic around whales, and the number of boats allowed in the breeding lagoons is restricted. Along the migration route, boats' proximity to whales is also limited.

Guided tour includes:

• Transportation round trip • Juice with Snacks • Bottled water • Traditional regional breakfast • 2 Hours of observation of the gray whales , • Seafood lunch which includes lobster tail/shrimp/fish

fillet with one beverage.

Per person, plus taxes (Min. 2 pax) *Price subject to changes without prior notice. Departure/Return Time: 6:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m.
