for £5 a dish, just perfect whether you’re on your lunch break or enjoying a lazy day beside the harbour. The menu includes many dishes that are gluten-free. For Supha, who’s lived in the UK for almost 20 years, introducing the food she’s loved all her life to new people is like a dream come true: “It’s really nice to be able to share this food with everyone,” she said. “More people now go to the South East Asia and enjoy real street food and when they return we want them to be able to experience it here. We feel a lot of restaurants here have adapted dishes for the perceived western palette. The dishes we do are more authentic and people really seem to like that.  “I like seeing so many of our customers come in and understand that this is food to share,” Supha added. “They order a selection and all tuck in, which is how this food is meant to be enjoyed. We can suggest sharing options for them. Of course, not everyone likes to share their dinner, and that’s ok too!” The Emporium is bright and bubbly and features artwork by Mongolian artist Tod Otgonbayar, which all adds to the cheery ambience. And then, of course, there’s the location: “Is there a better spot in Plymouth?” asks Dan. “And just over there is the fish quay where we get so much of our fantastic fresh seafood. “We only opened in February and we haven’t been blessed with great weather but there are some days where we’re in sunshine pretty much all day. When the sun comes round, the tables and chairs outside are a fantastic place to sit and watch the sunset. It’s gorgeous.” Perfect, in fact, for the planned 5 O’clock Club, when friends can sit out and share a bottle of bubbly and local mussels cooked Thai-style. Supha’s has 46 covers with additional tables and chairs outside when the weather behaves. Current opening times are 12 noon to 10pm, Wednesday to Saturday, with 9pm closing on Sunday. Tuesday opening is planned soon – visit the website and Facebook page for updates and for the full menu. And they’ve just started doing takeaway, too.
