Design Intervention: FREE THE CREEK Site Investigation: Cascadilla Creek

In Ithaca, natural gorge walls contain creeks. Treman Triangle, a park at the foot of Cascadilla Glen Trail, marks the creek’s transition from natural meander to man-made channalization. Here, the creek enters downtown Ithaca’s flatter planes and enters concrete retaining walls. I propose pulling back the retaining wall at Treman Triangle and the pocket parks at Alice Miller Way and West Marshall St. In doing so I hope to facilitate interaction at the water’s edge (even if only in small pockets along the city) and allowing the creek a few places to spread out, slow down, curve its own path.
