The Kroc Mission

Rd .N E

Nearly 33 million Americans receive assistance from The Salvation Army each year through a wide array of social services that range from providing food for the hungry, relief for disaster victims, assistance for the disabled, outreach to the elderly and ill, clothing and shelter to the homeless and opportunities for underprivileged children. About 83 cents of every dollar raised is used to support those services in nearly 9,000 communities nationwide.

»SOCIALSERVICES Look for toy donation barrels in local stores and businesses!

Monetary Donations

Each year The Salvation Army distributes toys to children in Marion & Polk counties who would otherwise not receive Christmas gifts. We help parents with gifts for children from newborn to age 14. Please consider donating new, unwrapped toys and games that are not violent in nature (please no guns, knives, or horror themed items. Thank you!).

Monetary donations are always welcome and can be used to purchase basic items for families who are facing financial insecurities. Here are three ways you can donate!

Intake Volunteers People with a love of interacting with others are needed to help process applications for families who wish to receive help with Christmas toys. We will start the family intake process on October 8th; volunteers interested in helping with this will need to call Caroline Cummins by September 23rd. Spanish and Russian speakers are greatly appreciated.

Toy Sorting Volunteers Through the generosity of our communities in Marion & Polk Counties, we have many toys that need to be sorted, counted, and made ready to wrap. This is a great project for older youth groups, service organizations, families to participate in, businesses who want their employees to participate in community service projects, and individuals.

An Army of Toy Wrapping Volunteers December 16th & 17th The Salvation Army will wrap donated toys to distribute to families. We need teens and adults who love Christmas paper, tape, and ribbons! Create a special package that will brighten a child's day!

Toy Distribution Volunteers It will take a village of adult volunteer elves to help on December 18th & 19th as parents come to pick up their wrapped Christmas gifts for their children. Volunteer and see how much joy our community can provide to families this Christmas!

"We Can" Organize Specialists Food barrels are placed throughout the local community in stores, businesses, churches, and schools. Barrel contents are collected each week, we rely on volunteers to be the "We Can" can-sorters. This is a great project for families with younger children, service groups, teens needing to put in community service time for school requirements, or anyone who likes to organize items.

Ring the Bell Every year The Salvation Army raises funds through its Red Kettle Campaign to support local social services efforts. Money raised locally stays local to provide vital services to those in need in Marion and Polk Counties. Volunteer "bell ringers" are important to the success of this campaign. Consider donat-

»AGERULES&CONDUCT Programs for All Ages! The Kroc Center offers a number of structured and unstructured activities so that youth of all ages may enjoy the amenities of the Kroc Center. Some unstructured activities are limited by age in order to ensure the Health and safety of all children.

Unstructured Activities Many of this facility’s venues have “open” times that are available for members and day-pass holders to enjoy the amenities of the facility without interruption by other programs. These open times may be limited by the maximum room capacity and monitored popularity of the area as well as the age of the participant. Schedules are subject to change and are available online or at the Kroc Center.

Youth ages 0-9 All youth ages 0-9 must be accompanied and supervised by an adult at all times to participate in age-appropriate unstructured activities (please see table on back cover).

Youth ages 10+

The Kroc Center seeks to provide a safe and encouraging environment for all. With this in mind, it is important for all who participate to share a community approach for caring for each other and the facility resources. The following policies are designed with that community approach in mind. If a member is unwilling or unable to abide by these policies, Kroc leadership has the right to refuse service to a patron on a daily or permanent basis. • The Kroc Center has “no tolerance” for alcohol, tobacco, drug, weapon, or gang involvement on the premises. • Items such as clothing, jewelry, bags, or tattoos are not acceptable if displaying any of the following: vulgar language, sexual innuendoes and/or illustrations that are sexual in nature, put down to self or others (including racial put-downs) and gang graffiti, insignias, or symbols. • Patrons must refrain from use of foul language, abusive actions, and inappropriate behavior in all Kroc Center venues. • Parents will provide the appropriate oversight of their children as defined on the back cover of this program guide. • Children under the age of 10 may not be left unattended in the hallways surrounding the fitness equipment area. This includes infants in strollers.

Studio without the direct accompaniment of an adult.

• Appropriate exercise attire is required. Close-toed athletic shoes and full-length shirts are required in the Fitness and Gymnasium areas. Jeans or clothing with grommets, rivets, buttons, or other garnishes will not be allowed on the weight equipment upholstery.

Youth ages 12+

• Only light colored, or other non-marking soft-soled shoes will be allowed on the Gymnasium floor.

All youth ages 10+ are welcome to participate in: open game room, open, swim, open climb*, open gym, open Library/Media Center* and open Art

All youth ages 12+ are welcome to participate in the activities listed above. This age group may also participate in cardio group exercise classes. Waivers* must still be completed for Rock Wall and Library/Media Center. Youth ages 13-14 may use the weight equipment upon completion of the Smart Start for Teens program. Learn more on p. 26.

Youth ages 15+ All youth ages 15+ are welcome to participate in the activities listed above. Additionally, at the age of 15, youth are allowed to participate in group exercise classes that use weights, and are allowed access to the fitness center with all of its equipment, without direct supervision by an adult. Waivers* must still be completed for Rock Wall & Library/Media Center through age 17.

Structured Activities The Kroc Center offers a number of structured activities for youth during the after-school and Fall hours. These may be found online or in the program guide. Although youth over the age of 10 are given limited access to the facility without direct supervision from an adult, the following activities enable children ages 0-9 to engage in some of the activities that are otherwise limited by age: No School Break Camps, Kinder Camps, Fall Day Camps, Fit Kids, other specific programs like Swim Lessons, and Weight Training Prep. *Waiver signed by parent or legal guardian required.

Kroc Center Code of Conduct

Fall 2013

• Modest bathing attire appropriate for a family-friendly facility is required; cut-offs and cotton clothing will damage the filters and are not allowed in the swimming pools.
