Copenhagen Winter Pride Week Intro

In the winter darkness, we need something to look forward to. We are happy and proud to present a new and diverse program for Copenhagen Winter Pride Week 2020 that includes both domestic and international activists, speakers and professionals. This winter’s program will contribute to and inspire conversations about progress in attitudes around gender, body and sexuality. Under the theme of empowerment, this year’s focus is on the positive experiences we as LGBTQIA+ people have with ourselves, with each other and with society. Critical and political dialogue is important, but we also need experiences that will warm our heart in the cold of winter, and we need to get together and enjoy ourselves. We have tried to create empowering content through social events and uplifting talks. That means a broad spectrum of professional and cultural events such as debates, talks, readings, film screenings and presentations. All rooms are accessible via lift or ramp, except for Salon K. Welcome to Copenhagen Winter Pride Week 2020 that is proudly supported by KPMG.

About Copenhagen Winter Pride Week In 2015, we decided to expand Copenhagen Pride with a Winter Pride. The starting point was and is based on the fact that in the summer, we mostly use the outside city spaces, and during Copenhagen Winter Pride Week, we move inside and focus on social aspects in order to strengthen the sense of community among LGBTQIA+ people. Instead of a parade, Copenhagen Winter Pride Week ends with one heck of a party on Saturday 22nd February, and throughout the week it is possible to experience an exciting program. Check our Facebook page for more information. During Copenhagen Winter Pride Week, we focus on the human rights program, which also had an impressive program over the summer, and you can join us in listening, learning and understanding each other through interesting presentations, debates and social events. We look forward to shining in the darkness – with you!

monday 17/2

monday 17/2 16:30 - 17:00 Friendship dating – youth edition Are you looking for acquaintances and potential friends in the LGBTQIA+ community? Then join our ‘friendship dating’ event where we’ll facilitate different conversations, giving you the opportunity to expand your network. Who knows, maybe you’ll meet people who will expand your horizon? Everyone is welcome, but this is aimed at young people. Language: Danish/English. Location: Huset-KBH, Xenon – Lounge 17:00 - 18:00 Non-binary in a binary society This talk focuses on empowerment. A panel of non-binary people will share their own experiences of this and touch on their positive experiences of shining in their everyday life. The audience is encouraged to ask questions and share their own experiences. Let’s celebrate how awesome it is to be non-binary. Language: Danish. Location: Huset-KBH, Balsalen

17:00 - 18:00 Insecurities for LGBT+ refugees Being LGBT+ is not temporary, but a residence permit is. The Danish authorities are now assessing more closely the need for protection each time a residence permit is to be extended. Therefore, many refugees are now called in for scrutinizing interviews by the Immigration Service when their residence permit is to be extended with the implicit threat of denying the extension. We will discuss the development of authorities’ new practice and how it feels to have an insecure future. Language: English. Location: Huset-KBH, Musikcaféen

18:00 - 19:00 Copenhagen Winter Pride Week opening reception Copenhagen Pride chairperson Lars Henriksen opens this year’s Copenhagen Winter Pride Week with a few words and a reception in Salon K where everyone is invited to kick off Winter Pride. ATT! The room is not accessible by lift. Language: English. Location: Huset-KBH, Salon K 19:00 - 20:00 Shameless Do you want to be more ’shameless’? Then join this workshop by Sabaah and The AIDS Foundation where we’ll talk about how to turn shame upside down. We will start by sharing personal experiences of shaming, including experiences of racism, transphobia, homophobia, HIV and femme shaming. Then we’ll continue with the workshop where we’ll work together to find out how we – and you – can respond and fight back when we meet people who try to shame us. Language: Danish. Location: Huset-KBH, Balsalen 19:00 - 20:00 Family creation – the good stories There are many different family structures today. DARE invites you to an evening where representatives from different types of families talk about their successes. How did they succeed? What’s good in their particular type of family? How did they deal with structural challenges and other people’s opinions? Join us and share your own stories or ask the questions you can’t get answers to anywhere else. Language: Danish. Location: Huset-KBH, Musikcaféen

tuesday 18/2 16:30 - 17:00 Friendship Dating – 30+ edition

17:30 - 18:00 Drag reading for children

Are you looking for acquaintances and potential friends in the LGBTQIA+ community? Then join our ‘friendship dating’ event where we’ll facilitate different conversations, giving you the opportunity to expand your network. Who knows, maybe you’ll meet people who will expand your horizon? Everyone is welcome, but this is aimed at people aged 30+. Language: Danish / English Location: Huset-KBH, Xenon – Lounge

Bring your kids along to a lovely evening where none other than Dallas King and Di Di Cancerella from “Drag Queen Story Hour Denmark” will read different children’s stories with empathy and excitement that will make any kid pay attention. Language: Danish. Location: Huset-KBH, Musikcaféen

17:00 - 17:30 After work singing for kids

We will explore femininities in men through conversations among poofy, femme, feminine and eccentric men. As a man, being feminine has distinctly negative connotations, which is why we want to explore and celebrate femme guys: when are you most comfortable; where do you buy stilettos in any size and how much glitter is too little glitter? Language: Danish. Location: Huset-KBH, Balsalen

If you enjoy singing, stop by Huset-KBH and sing the workday out of your body with pianist Lise Ellevang Rasmussen. Language: Danish. Location: Huset-KBH, Musikcaféen 17:00 - 18:00 Beyond Identity Politics & Pinkwashing Prides promote LGBTI rights, celebrate LGBTI culture and represent a globally growing phenomenon. Pride parades are increasingly supported by large public and private organizations. This involvement can be read as a sign of mainstream support. It can also be read as a cynical attempt on the side of businesses to promote their brands. We present a third view of Prides as generative of a new civil religion that provides public rituals, where society is centred around human rights and the individual. Language: English. Location: Huset-KBH, Balsalen

18:30 - 20:00 Femme, Fabulous, and Male

18:30 - 20:00 Women’s love of women From an historic perspective, women’s love of other women has evolved from domestic friendships of the bourgeoisie, to a more sexual visibility of the lesbian movement, to today’s liberated female love. Join us and learn more about the lesbian part of Denmark’s history when Associate Professor Karin Cohr Lützen takes us on a historic journey exploring women’s love of women from 1880 to 1980. Language: Danish. Location: Huset-KBH, Musikcaféen 20:00 - 22:00 Fucking Åmål We will be screening the Swedish movie Fucking Åmål, about the first love, finding yourself and about daring to be who you are. It’s free

20:00 movie: A perfectly normal family 11-year old Emma has grown up in a perfectly “normal” family. But as it turns out that Emma’s father, Thomas, is transgender, everything is turned upside down. Both father and daughter struggle to hold on to everything they had together, while at the same time accepting that everything is different now. Does Thomas, now called Agnete, still like soccer? volunqueers wanted Do you want to help carry out one of Copenhagen’s largest, most important and most colourful festivals, which is growing every year? Copenhagen Pride is an organisation 100% dependent on volunteer support. Without our many volunteers, we would not be able to plan and carry out one of the largest festivals in Copenhagen, which is both a celebration for and of the LGBTQIA+ community, but also an important human rights festival focusing on equality and inclusion. In addition to the annual Pride, we also host a large number of activities throughout the year, which you can take part of as a volunteer. As a volunteer with Copenhagen Pride, you can contribute to a number of tasks of many different types. Depending on which activity you’re interested in, certain skills and/or personal qualities can be an advantage. Email us at frivillig@copenhagenpride.dk for more info.
