Founded in 1988 by Bill Johnson, the studio has grown to become one of the foremost restaurant design firms in the country and has gained an international reputation for creating truly extraordinary spaces. With an understanding that “chefs and restaurateurs are creative people who seek to have their restaurant become an extension of their personality”, our designers pride themselves on being good listeners and collaborators, able to translate that personality into a design that intimately speaks to patrons and keeps them coming back time after time. A successful design begins by having a team with deep experience, accomplished in all facets of the process. The studio has a roster of architects, interior designers and lighting designers working together on each project to ensure that there is a balance of elements that together create a harmonious atmosphere which serves to elevate the dining experience and heighten the senses of even the most discerning guest. After nearly thirty years practicing as a specialty design firm, the studio joined Cooper Carry in 2016 to become The Johnson Studio at Cooper Carry. Cooper Carry’s nearly 60 year practice is far reaching and offers a vast array of professionals in practically every building type. Of particular note however, is Cooper Carry’s hospitality studio which is recognized as one of the top hotel design firms in the United States. The close collaboration between the two studios provides hotel operators with a dynamic and time-tested restaurant design team, along with a deeply experienced and talented group of hotel designers. The Johnson Studio at Cooper Carry is passionate about every project that we touch, as we understand the uniqueness of every restaurant and the mutual goal of creating memorable experiences.
