BLOCO DE PAU E CORDA The Bloco Lírico Com Você no Coração – “With You in the Heart” – was founded on 26 October 2004. The history of the carnival fellowship starts with the great desire of Eleny Regis da Cruz (current president) of creating a lyrical bloco to animate the parties of SUDENE, governmental office in which she had worked. The founder decided, then, to turn her idea into reality, counting for such on the adhesion of other colleagues, who, together with her, created the Bloco. The fellowship, whose name was inspired in the song “Frevo da Saudade”, by Aldemar Paiva, is not restricted to the carnival parties of SUDENE anymore; presently, it has more than 100 participants and parades in the Contest of Carnival Associations, sponsored by the City Council of Recife. Despite the brief time of existence, it has already conquered the championship of Group II, in 2007, and Group I, in 2008. Parallel to the Contest, the group also parades in the community of Engenho do Meio, always on the Friday of the pre-carnival week, in the Encontro de Blocos no Recife Antigo (gathering of blocos) as well as in other events of the Carnival period. As the name suggests, the Bloco brings in its flabelo a heart as the symbol. Its official colours are green and white, for being the colours of the Association of Servants from SUDENE that hosts the headquarters of the carnival club. The association, nonetheless, is not composed exclusively with servants from the institution; among its more than 100 revellers, many people from Engenho do Meio are included.
