Production In Korea, we have produced eight unscripted series to date, have two new scripted series in development and also produced A+E format Man vs. Child: Chef Showdown. Over the course of the coming year, we will be announcing new locally produced projects across various genres.

Rights We typically hold worldwide rights across all platforms for the majority of our content catalogue.

Trends in 2018/Outlook for 2019 Content investment is on the rise from movies to dramas, and the production of Korean dramas in particular is picking up steam. In addition, increased OTT/ IPTV rights have emerged as increasingly important components to the deal. A+E Networks is the only global network running both Korean and pan-Asian platforms and is planning to speed up its role as a bridge to each country through the increased production of hugely popular Korean content across both scripted series and factual entertainment.

Asia focus in 2019 “Asia in its entirety is a growth market for us but we are specifically focused on developing our content distribution and format sales in India, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam. Additionally, the launch of our Korean channels (History and Lifetime) last year have provided us with A-grade Korean drama, talk-shows and gameshows with top Korean stars that are highly sought after by our clients across the region and worldwide. The success of Harry & Meghan: A Royal Romance across multiple territories has further compounded our position and reputation as the pre-eminent global distributor of TV movies.”

2018: “We saw the impact of local programming take centre stage for all Asian individual markets. As we are a distributor, the next step for local content intended for international sales is to build a consistent chain of commercialisation globally – Monetise first locally and remonetise through formats. On the international programming landscape, there has been a stronger return to core genres – wildlife and science/ technology, studio-based formats, animation, as well as digital short-form content.” 2019: “We see great locally owned IP coming through lifestyles series and unique formats with a fresh new take from Asia.”

Our projects, Walking The Yangtze and Designing Paradise, are both good examples of Asian content with global audience opportunity. We are also big believers in eSports, and following the launch of Gamerz, we have multiple deals in Asia. eSports is a wealth of opportunity, and being early days, it makes that a pioneering area for media content, beyond just the gaming dynamic.”

Trends & Outlook We are definitely in the new era of groundbreaking original content. Buyers are looking for fresh content with pioneering concepts as the market is no longer buying volume alone. Fox and National Geographic have been early adopters of this trend and have led the way with innovative new shows like The Host, which is our hottest Latin American production, and Valley of The Boom, which will be a massive scripted drama on National Geographic. The market is more discerning as consumer tastes evolve and that raises the bar for productions in turn. At Fox Networks Group Content Distribution, we have embraced this next phase of market evolution and look forward to leading the way once again.” Julius Toh, VP Asia Pacific

“On the formats and entertainment side, lighthearted, family-friendly and studiobased entertainment shows such as Win Your Song or My Man Can, and reality and competition formats such as Heartbreak Island are in high demand in the Asian region. On the scripted side, we see an appetite for action, suspense and thriller movies like The Deadly Game as well as high-end English-speaking content like major new drama series Death and Nightingales. Lifestyle is still one of the top-sellers in the factual entertainment genre, with popular topics including food, travel, high life and home renovation such as Buying Blind. Inspired by true events, I Am the Night tells the gripping story of Fauna Hodel (India Eisley), a teenage girl who is given away at birth, and grows up outside of Reno, Nevada. As Fauna begins to investigate the secrets of her past, she meets a ruined reporter (Chris Pine), haunted by the case that undid him. Together they follow a sinister trail that swirls ever closer to an infamous Los Angeles gynecologist, Dr. George Hodel (Jefferson Mays), a man involved in some of Hollywood’s darkest debauchery, and possibly, its most infamous unsolved crime. Daniel Radcliffe and Steve Buscemi executive produce and star alongside Karan Soni (Deadpool) and Geraldine Viswanathan (Blockers). Radcliffe plays Craig, a low-level angel responsible for handling all of humanity’s prayers. Buscemi plays Craig’s boss, God, who has pretty much checked out to focus on petty hobbies.
