Woodturning: Square Curly Maple Platter with David Dudney

Whether you’re a beginner or more experienced woodturner, this class will further your skills with form, shape, and design! Students will turn a 6” Square Curly Maple Platter and embellish designs on the surface to emphasize the natural beauty of the curly wood grain. You will also become acquainted with the wood shop, basic safety procedures, and operations of the lathe. All students will leave with a finished turned platter! All materials will be provided. Glittering Powder Coated Ornaments with Andrew Thornton

Learn how to powder coat at home and add a little sparkle to your creation! In this class, we will be making seasonal powder coated ornaments. We’ll learn how to use pancake dies with the hydraulic press, how to prep our metal and get it ready for powder coating, how to add texture to powder coated surfaces, and how to add shimmer and shine to our finished pieces! Intro to Woodworking: Bandsaw Boxes with Teresa Audet

In this workshop, students will learn how to create organic shaped boxes using only the bandsaw and hand tools. Students will learn how to safely use the bandsaw to create unique boxes, and will learn about creating texture and patterns with gouges, layered milk paint, and oil/wax finishes. Natural Dyeing: Eco-Printing with Fall Leaves with Kelly Lane

Join us in the Beth Wainwright Dye Lab for a morning of learning with Kelly Lane, who will guide participants through the process of eco-printing, a method of transferring the shapes and marks of leaves and flowers onto fabric. And, create a uniquely printed, organic cotton bandanna! In this workshop, we will capture the season by permanently transferring the natural shapes of leaves and flowers onto fabric. Your one-of-a-kind design will be created on an 18”, organic cotton bandanna – the perfect accessory to enliven your fall wardrobe, or to give as a gift during the holiday season. Upcycled Denim Slippers
with National Artist in Residence Julia Harrison

Give new life to those worn-out jeans you can’t wear but can’t bear to throw away! We’ll draft a simple pattern using your own foot as the model, then cut the pieces from your jeans and sew them up by hand and machine. Tweak the style and fit to create a comfy pair of custom house slippers that you or a loved one will love to wear. No previous patternmaking or machine sewing experience necessary. Upcycle a sweater! Sew your own stuffie! Starting from your own drawing of a cute animal or other character, we’ll draft a simple pattern. Next we’ll cut the pattern from a beloved, but worn-out sweater. Then we will machine-sew the pieces, assemble, and stuff them with scraps. Finally, we’ll add details to bring out the personality of your design. You’ll take home a cuddly, custommade, and environmentally friendly new friend! A sweet gift for yourself or a loved one. No previous pattern-making or machine sewing experience necessary. Students should bring a drawing (think simple, like the bunnies in the picture) to use as a starting point, and a used sweater that can be cut up. Learn more + register HERE!

Woodturning: Candle Holders with Hanna Dausch

In this workshop, students will learn how to turn a taper candle holder on the lathe. Students will learn how to safely use the lathe in addition to becoming acquainted with the wood shop and basic safety procedures. Woodturning: Holiday Ornaments with Matt Iannacci

In this workshop, students will learn how to create a hanging ball-and-icicle style holiday ornament using different woods to add color and texture. Great for both beginner and intermediate turners, students will learn the capabilities of spindle-orientation woodturning. Each student will walk away with at least one finished, polished ornament, ready to be displayed for the holidays! Intro to Improv Embroidery: Pins, Patches and More!

Learn to create a pin or a patch of your very own design! In this workshop, you will learn an improvisational embroidery approach; rather than being guided by a pre-designed pattern, we will learn to follow our intuition and the direction provided by the work itself as it progresses. This may result in a piece that’s abstract, representative, lettered — the process is very flexible and forgiving. You’ll leave with at least one pin and/or patch completed and perhaps another started, depending on your ambition! This workshop is for students of all levels. All materials will be provided. In this class, you’ll learn the art of wood burning by creating custom holiday ornaments with burned textures and watercolor paints for a unique finish! Perfect for both beginners and experienced burners alike, you will learn essential safety tips, tool techniques, and simple design transfers. In this workshop, students will be taught the basics of silver ring making and how to mount a bezel set stone. Participants will be taught about ring sizing, the MOHS grading scale and the process of how to create a simple stone setting that will utilize a flat back stone known as a cabochon. Students should be able to complete the steps of sawing, filing, soldering, stone setting and polishing. Along with the previous goals, basic tool usage will be discussed if participants are not familiar, with an emphasis on safety, hand dexterity and fine motor skills. All materials will be provided. Sweet and Light Metal Clay and Wire Earrings with Donna Penoyer

This workshop is a fun way to try metal clay while making delightful earrings to keep or give as presents. Students will learn how to fuse fine silver wire into open shapes, then incorporate small silver metal clay elements before firing. Shape, join, refine, fire, polish, and add patina all in one session! Students will complete 1-2 pairs of earrings from start to finish. Natural Dye Workshop: Bundle Dyeing with Amy Garbark

In this beginner-friendly workshop, participants will learn how to bundle dye on cloth, using plants, flowers, and other natural sources. Join us to make your own scarf/bandanna or cotton market tote using a collection of dried flowers that were grown, collected, and saved from Amy’s dye garden + some additional materials. As Amy shares, and we can attest, “unbundling your first (and every!) bundle feels a little bit magical!” Come out and join us for a little bit of magic and plant appreciation! Felting Basics: Mushroom! with Rayna Noel

In this introductory workshop, participants will learn the basic materials, tools, and processes of needle felting, which is a process of forming wool by using a notched needle and repetitive hand motions. Festive Metal Clay Charms with Donna Penoyer

This workshop will bump charm-making up a notch via layers, borders, 3D elements, and a heavy dose of fun and inspiration. Students will be able to play the day away with the instructor’s cache of tiny molds and teeny clay cutters, as well as extruders, templates, paper punches, and other fun tools. Best of all, the instructor will share some of her signature techniques for creating texture and imagery with a layered look on metal clay. Depending on individual pace, students can expect to complete at least 4-5 small charms from start to finish. Additional pieces may be left for the instructor to fire after the workshop.
