International Cultural Management is passionate about announcing the Art for Peace Publication.

This book features a collection of contemporary artworks nominated for the “Art for Peace” Award. From paintings to sculptures, photography, mixed media, drawing, illustration and digital art.

The publication aims to reveal and promote talented artists and to commemorate and honour Picasso’s artwork from 1949, chosen as the emblem of Peace.

The painter from Malaga, Picasso, commissioned the dove of Peace for the First International Peace Conference in Paris. Picasso’s first Dove of Peace, chosen as the emblem for the First International Peace Conference in Paris on 20-23 April 1949, was a traditional, realistic picture of a pigeon given to him by his great friend and rival, the French artist Henri Matisse.

The image was a resounding success and became an emblem for subsequent editions and a symbol of Peace, freedom and equality. Picasso later developed this image into a simple, graphic line drawing that is one of the world’s most recognizable symbols of Peace.

This book commemorates and honours Picasso’s artwork from 1949 because we consider that nowadays keeps having the same concern, connotation and message: Peace, freedom and equality.

1st Prize Artist Award

Peace comes with the understanding that mankind is deeply embedded in the patterns and ways of the earth. We are nature, in coexistence with all other forms of life and with each other. We are a part of the ever unfolding abundance of existence. The process of painting shows me many parallels to life itself. It describes a journey with many crossroads, obstacles and changes of direction, which may not be visible to the naked eye but are the key to the „finished picture“. Painting changes the way I experience time and space. It makes me feel like a traveller, even though I spend a lot of time in one place – my studio. There is no perfection in art, merely a continuous search for truth and expession.

Grappling with experiences of the body and the discomfort of fitting into one’s skin, my interdisciplinary processdriven approach to creating work addresses tension. Through my work, I am unpacking a crumbling self-image and the loss of personal value. Attempting to make visible the unseen. Playing with the dynamic relationship between the physical act of making and destroying “images”, I am studying the value those images/ works carry vs the loss of value reflected by the changes I make to them. Taking away the precisions of the images and materials themselves, devaluing them to inform the meaning. Realizing the manner in which my work is created is intertwined with the imagery produced. Seeing and using my materials as a body, as the skin, as the connections between our insider and outsider worlds.

As most of the time, I paint joy, freedom, and solidarity. I paint equality. I paint utopist visions of peace. I paint peace of mind. I don´t usually connect my surrealistic timeless paintings to certain time or moment. I welcome You to the Wind Factory where people are working equally for sustainable future. People are taking care of nature while taking care of each other. I started to paint this utopian Wind Factory in spring 2022. My goal was to paint the Wind Factory where people are working together since covid time separated us all. It looked like that finally our lives were getting back to normal. I wanted to reflect the opening of society. In early state of this painting process, actions of war started widely in Ukraine. Since that, I was in the middle of very personal painting process and seeing the unexpected acts of war on European soil. The fact that our country and Russia have 1343 km common boarder, and many confluences in history, makes situation even more multidimensional. This painting process was something else than I planned. However, the actions in Ukraine and the fact how fast this war united the Europe and other nations, gave me some extra strength to create. I think it is ok to say that this painting is my requiem, this is where I hide from war scenes in media and where I partly reborn. This awarded painting represents peace, freedom, and equality. Working for peace - painting by painting.

“I feel I am useless as an artist when I am happy. Pain is what creates my artwork. The painful experiences that people go through as they journey through life in the world around us from childhood to adulthood which in many ways is full of chaos and hardship are what sparks and motivates me to possess my objectives to make purposeful artwork that hopefully generates meaningful and fulfilling empathetic connections to people. As I observe and interpret the world around me combined with creating my artwork, I discover time and time again that true beauty lies within the darkness and that sometimes nightmares are the birthplace of some of the best ideas for an artist.”

*AVATAR:

Avatar is a term in Hinduism for a god who has descended into the material world with a specific mission. We are living through difficult times. It seemed like something like this had happened once before and to someone else. But this is our everyday reality. My hero is without, gender, face, or age. It is rather a materialized concentration of a cluster of emotions: denial, anger, horror, grief, sympathy, pain. Will Avatar see through the vail of darkness the rise of hope. Will he complete his mission - to bring it to the world.

TOMAS

Tomas Jetela (1986) is exceptional on the Czech art scene in his generations because he is a consistent figuralist. The author, who’s style can be described as expressive, raw and authentic, expresses another dimension of emotions and context through his work. Among the terms that play a crucial role in this measurement is the word expression. On the one hand, it is linked to constant effort to touch the inner side in a concentrated manner or, on the contrary, to empty his face, where, together with the accent on hand gestures, he focuses his painterly attention mainly. On the other hand, it includes a distinctive expression that forms the basis of his visual message. In fact, during the production of specific formal expressions based on a free combination of painting, drawing and collage.

1st Prize Mixed Media

Sources of my inspirations are nature, landscape, urban architecture and foreign countries and their people. By engaging with these topics, she creates compositions on canvas, wood and metals. Using acrylic paints, pigments and varnishes, which I combine with materials I find in nature, such as barks, straw or home-dyed papers to make collages, I create haptic structures on the suppoert media. This enables viewers tu use their sense of touch engaging with the exhibited canvas which is my intention. I want to put my emotions and feelings with the collected materials on the support media, which I find when I am hiking around our village and landscapes. So it is very important to me that the materials on my canvas can be touched ahd hopefully evokes emotions and associations to the picture and my topics. Every day is a good day when I can stay in my atelier and be able to work on canvas and paper, discoveing new possibilities to create new combinations. Besides my painting I also make wood and linoleum printings, another technique which I also love very much.

ANNA PLAVINSKAYA

Anna Plavinskaya was born In former USSR in Moscow in 1960 .Beginning 1989 she lives and works in New York, USA. She studied in in Academy for Arts and Theater 1976-1980, Moscow . finished with diploma of costume designer for theater. In 1980 she studied printmaking techniques in the studio of printmaker Elya Shterengard in Moscow. Her interest in studying art techniques, history, literature of different cultures and civilizations opens wider horizons. Knowledge in Botany and Biology gives possibilities to her to execute her art works more sincere and confident. All years she is true to her favorite technique - pen and ink. Her fantastic linear puzzles are based on real trees. The structure of the tree bark, which underlies her drawings , often suggests compositions and themes of her works. The philosophical symbolism of her early art works in the mid-nineties was replaced by the period of ironic feminism. The drawings have become more figurative and the compositions multi-detailed. Emerging themes usually reflects a particular situation of the “ World of Women” - sensual, political or everyday household theme that seems ironical to Anna Plavinskaya as if she laughed at herself in moments of her own life. Artworks of Anna Plavinskaya exhibited in many Countries and received the numbers of important awards and recognitions.

MAJA PAVLOVSKAMAJA ANGEL

When I suddenly was stuck in bed, totally paralysed, couldn`t do anything, but continue visualizing my paintings and writing songs “in my mind”, praying days, nights, years to the Creator, to give me another chance to use even a minimal strength and movements in my hands, so I can use my talents, divine gifts, to heal my soul. The pray was heard. Well, I only use left hand, but just enough to spread my message to everyone who wants to see or hear it. Through my both art loves, painting and song writing, I`m very often “mind traveling” to various known and unknown places, imagining different people and mentalities, all of them with different, but again very similar thoughts and emotions, their own battles or celebrations, as part of their everyday stories in this journey, named life, asking myself always the same question: “Where did we make a mistake?”. I`m sure that the humans are not created to live only small life, but we are much more precious than that. We, all together have power to live in eternal, sweet freedom, love and peace, vibrating at the highest possible frequencies, while forgetting all the low states of mind, scared, sad, angry, which keep us stuck, as I felt, “invaded” by the illness, that I`ve suddenly got, but I`ve never lost hope that I`ll be the winner! I would be very happy if my artworks and messages touch everyone’s spirit, with the positive energy I want to transfer to the audience.

The “Wounded Peace Dove 2022” portrays a peace dove on one side and a couple dancing on the other, expressing coexistence, cooperation and connection. It is bleeding, has cracks and different textures, symbolizing the year 2022 as a year of pandemic, war, violence and global destruction. It emphasizes the fact that people all over the world must work together towards making the world a better place, a world of peace, freedom and equality before it is too late.

Black Dove, Steel Wires, 67x34x25, 2022

The Black Dove, portraying a peace dove and a figure in movement, is made of thin steel wires bent around a steel rod. The color black, as opposed to the universal symbol of the white peace dove, was chosen to depict the tragic world situation. The acrobat holding up the peace dove symbolizes that people must unite to make the world a better place. The interplay between the two sides of the sculpture is an expression of coexistence, connection and the hope for peace, freedom and equality.

I see the unity and equality of people in the variety of colors. The artist expresses her emotional world, her thoughts and actions in her pictures. This is how she makes contact with the real world and connects it. It is important to her to captivate as many viewers as possible in order to enter into an exchange with them. Because every viewer looks at it with different eyes and feelings. In her pictures she also processes political and social issues. She hopes to be able to enrich many large exhibitions. Franco Smith’s project was born from the idea of developing a language to tell places, stories, connections and sensations. A sort of narration through images, without dialogue, based on compositions with a strong visual impact. Every picture of the project represents a photographic storytelling. The creative process arises from the elaboration of memories and sensations experienced while visiting a place and from the understanding of what has truly remained imprinted and settled in the memory. Based on this awareness, the creation of the image begins, combining different photographs taken in the same country. This artwork is a digital collage of original photographs shot by me in Omaha Beach in 2012 and it is about freedom. I was inspired by the Delocroix’s paint “La Liberté guidant le peuple” to compose this picture. I was deeply impressed visiting such a symbolic place, and the feeling that something terrible happened there was intense. Then I saw the little girl running free and light-hearted and I started to breathe again.
