PUBLISHER’S LETTER
JOURNEY T
he May issue is a very special issue for me because it marks my third year of being the publisher and my ninth year of running Conscious Community Magazine. Let me tell you, it has been quite a journey!
This all started when Walter Perschke, the previous publisher, wanted to expand his spiritually-based, entrepreneurial horizons. It was 2012, and The Monthly Aspectarian magazine was for sale. I vividly remember the day he purchased it like it was yesterday. He was so thrilled to be overseeing the oldest spiritual and metaphysical magazine in the United States. At that time, my life was pretty comfortable. I was working at the Spiritual Learning Center and studying business management in college. All of that changed the day I asked him who would manage the magazine. Much to my shock, his response was “YOU!” I said “yes,” and I became the Circulation Manager of Conscious Community Magazine. As many of you know, Walter Perschke passed away three years ago in May of 2016, and he left me the magazine in his will and this community. He knew that I would take this magazine to the next level of consciousness.
KATARZYNA (KASIA) SZUMAL PUBLISHER
After a couple of years of running Conscious Community Magazine, I have learned many meaningful lessons, some of which I would like to share with you. You can apply them to not only running your own business but also everyday life. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6.
Trust your intuition and follow it. Be open-minded. Take care of yourself. Celebrate your uniqueness and be yourself! Take steps each day towards your dreams. Open yourself to new experiences and new people.
7. Eat a clean diet full of fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds and legumes. 8. Ground yourself daily with seated meditation or active meditation. 9. There are no mistakes, just lessons that take you to the next level of consciousness! 10. Be patient with yourself.
This month, we celebrate Mother’s Day and honor the Divine Feminine. Spencer Schluter and Janae Jean spoke with author and gatherer of women, Danielle Dulsky, about her book, The Holy Wild: A Heathen Bible for the Untamed and the feminine archetypes of the Maiden, the Mother and the Crone that all women embody in their interview, Embracing the Feminine Archetypes: Maiden, Mother, Crone. We continue our celebration of women in this month’s Ask Alecia, where Alecia offers advice to a reader who has an issue with a woman in her women’s spiritual group. Also, Debra Landwehr Engle offers 8 Ways to Foster Self-Love. Alan Cohen urges us to ask, “What’s the best thing that could happen?” in From the Heart column. Theresa Puskar shares another stop along her spiritual journey with us with her experience at the Advanced Spiritual Retreat with Douglas Bentley at the Flowering Heart Center in Wheaton in All About Town. And, of course, there are many more uplifting articles and inspiring events packed into this issue and online. As always, I invite you to visit www.ConsciousCommunityMagazine.com throughout the month for our newest thoughtful and inspiring content. I consider the Conscious Community part of my larger family, and I am thankful for all of you, and your commitment to raising consciousness. Happy Mother’s Day! The Best,

1960s. In 1955, Dr. King founded The Aetherius Society based on communication he was receiving from advanced extraterrestrial beings. The Cosmic Transmissions Dr. King received made outstanding prophecies with regard to planetary changes that are now being substantiated. The Masters further stated that the Mother Earth, as a highly evolved conscious Being, is quickening her vibrations in alignment with an evolutionary transformation that is occurring throughout Creation. The extraterrestrial messages received by Dr. King have a profound implication for all humanity as these Earth changes manifest with an increased intensity upon our world. During the presentation extracts from Cosmic Transmissions as they were delivered through Dr. King will be played, while recent data will be presented in support of these predictions even though science has difficulty in understanding these Earth changes. [COMMUNITY Q&A]
ASK ALECIA by Alecia Rice
I’m in a women’s spiritual group where I feel constantly projected upon by another woman who acts like a victim. Her negative energy causes me to want to stay silent in the group so as not to rouse her, and it’s making me feel resentful. How might I deal with this situation? — Silent Sophia A: Dear Silent Sophia, Sharing space with sister–friends in a sacred circle can be an expansive and liberating experience. It should also be a safe space to practice using our voice in uncomfortable ways for personal growth. Self–excavation is usually encouraged in such circles, so you have found the perfect place to dig into this issue to expand yourself. The Universe provides opportunities such as this to consciously raise our awareness. I encourage a practice of self–examination because no one but ourselves is responsible for how we feel; our pain is an inside job. What irritates us in another is often also active in us. It’s important to figure out what our contributions are in sticky situations, to attempt to shift them internally first. We may find that it’s more about us than we realize; yet at other times, we may need to lay it at the feet of the other. Misinterpretations may also be projected on us. Yet when interactions turn wonky, we can pause to better articulate what we actually mean. Doing so can smoothe the path to reroute it into a more positive direction. 10
| CONSCIOUS COMMUNITY MAGAZINE MAY 2019
It can be difficult to know whether what we say could be better conveyed, or whether the recipient is hearing it through a twisted lens. The sisters in the circle know us and can share perspectives that assist both sides in processing. They can provide gentle feedback when the delivery seems to have some energy in it, as well as confirm when something is mistakenly taken wrong. That’s the beauty of the circle. It’s the place to receive validation and neutral feedback, as well as to improve our ways of saying, viewing, or doing things. It’s also where we can grow our intuition in a safe space by addressing those “hunches” that we question in ourselves that sometimes seek validation from outside ourselves. Resentment can ground us in a sense of victimization. When we’re feeling disempowered and are afraid to speak our truth, it’s important to check in to see what might lie beneath that. Many women are insecure about speaking their truth and are even more afraid of “confrontation.” In my experience in similar situations, I’ve found that I’ve felt victimized because I couldn’t get over feeling forced to say uncomfortable things to stand up for myself. For example, I’ve hired painters who I’ve given specific instructions to paint two coats. On multiple occasions when I’d look over their work, they had only painted one. I was then resentful that I was uncomfortably forced to instruct
them once again. I felt victimized. Why couldn’t they just follow through with my request instead of forcing me to be the “bad guy?” Going within, I realized that I was most aggravated because I had to bring my voice to the table in ways that made me feel insecure and uncomfortable. These guys pushed me many times to voice my needs for two coats of paint, which offered me the awkward opportunity to stretch myself and stand in my power. Doing so empowered me and made it easier for me to speak my needs in future situations. I’ve been grateful for those opportunities ever since. When neither of you is in a triggered state, you might try pulling her aside with one of the other women for a chat. It’s important to open your heart using “I” phrases instead of “you” to explain how you feel in these situations. You can then stand in open curiosity to confirm if she feels this same erratic energy between the two of you. The third person in the space can help neutrally facilitate the conversation and hopefully bring you both towards an understanding, enabling you to move forward more smoothly. You can’t necessarily change the way this woman reacts to you, but you now have a few options that may help ease the situation by checking your own inner victim, requesting assistance from other sisters in the group and exercising your voice in a difficult situation. It’s important to remember that we’re all villains in another’s story. When we heal the behavior in ourselves that we don’t like in another, we stand with a lesson learned that may not trigger us much in the future. Alecia Rice integrates higher concepts with wisdom to bring forth balance, perspective and clarity. She’s a personal advisor, speaker and gatherer of women. For perspective on life issues, you’re invited to text questions and comments to 681–321–1109. Discussions continue at Ask Alecia on Facebook.

EMBRACING THE FEMININE ARCHETYPES MAIDEN, MOTHER, CRONE Interview with Danielle Dulsky by Janae Jean and Spencer Schluter For our May interview, we had the pleasure to share a conversation with author Danielle Dulsky. Danielle explores the wild feminine, humanity’s deep and embodied connection to the natural world through writing, multimedia art, motherhood, witchcraft, yoga teaching and energy–healing. Danielle’s most recent book, The Holy Wild: A Heathen Bible for the Untamed Woman, invites readers to create their own spiritual path with the elements—Earth, Water, Fire, Air and Ether, as well as the feminine archetypes of Maiden, Mother, and Crone. For more about Danielle’s fascinating work, visit DanielleDulsky.com. Follow her on Instagram and Twitter@ WolfWomanWitch. You can support her work at www.Patreon. com/DanielleDulsky, and “like” and “follow” her work on Facebook@WolfWomanCircle. 12
| CONSCIOUS COMMUNITY MAGAZINE MAY 2019
The following is only an excerpt from our interview. Listen for more insights about the Divine Feminine, archetypes, the importance of rituals, motherhood, living in harmony with nature, and more. Subscribe to the Conscious Community Podcast on your favorite podcatcher or listen on www. ConsciousCommunityMagazine.com. Find the Conscious Community Podcast on Twitter@TweetCCPodcast or on Facebook@ConsciousCommunityPodcast. Janae: In your book, you talk about the feminine archetypes of “Maiden, Mother and Crone.” Do you feel that as women we need to embody all these roles? Danielle: Yeah, I think that’s it. We are all three, maiden, mother and crone, all the time, even irrespective of gender. We have these masculine and feminine energies that cycle within us. It doesn’t even bother me If you call them by those labels or call them something else. What we are really talking about when we talk about the maiden is our sensuality, the way our emotions cycle, and our kinship with nature. Then the mother
archetype is two things. In my book, I talk about the idea of the mother’s twin. There are socially acceptable aspects of the mother archetype because she’s a “doer.” She’s generative; she’s productive. So, she’s very good for capitalism and our existing socioeconomic structures because she’s very busy. But, the mother’s twin is the flipside of the mother, which are the less socially acceptable aspects of the mother archetype, which would be righteous rage, will and activism. She also thinks very holistically. While the masculine equivalent, the Father archetype, thinks very individualistically. So, the mother is very holistic; she’s a creator of community and a storyteller. Finally, the crone archetype is very intuitive. She thinks in terms of the cosmic web. While the Sage archetype, which is the masculine equivalent, will fragment and separate in order to examine, the crone will look at the bigger picture. JJ: Not to distract us from the discussion of the feminine, but what is the male equivalent of the maiden? DD: I usually call him the Hunter. Spencer: In popular culture, as Janae points out, women are often only valued when they are under 25 and for their physical appearance and reproductive qualities. This is toxic for young women and especially toxic for women as they age. As younger people, we need the help of elders and their guidance. DD: We take the maiden’s power away by oversexualizing her. She’s valued until she’s 25 but valued in this limited physical way. The maiden archetype is much broader. She is very sexual, but she’s also an artist and very present, versus the mother who is a forward thinker. As I said, she’s the one who socially acceptable because she’s always creating something, whether it’s children or something else. She’s “mothering” something. Our crones and sages are locked away in nursing homes or whatever and not valued for all that wisdom they have, so we are in a society where we don’t have access to elders. It is difficult to embrace our inner crones and sages because they are those aspects of our psyches that have been socially devalued in every way. We live with that and see it all the time, so it’s difficult to get past it. SS: You mentioned that the crone is intuitive, which is something that our society smirks at. I think that leads to a lot of our problems. DD: Like I always say, “Even witches want proof.” Proof that our intuition is right. When we listen to our intuition, and we were totally right, then we have this incentive to keep listening to it. But, if we don’t even get that chance to listen to our intuition because we are trying to be so logical, then we don’t have the proof that we need! Right? It’s taking those first few steps where we say, “Maybe I should go with my gut and go against the logic and the numbers and just see what happens.” JJ: What do you think is the significance of ritual? Do you think it’s innate in us?
DD: I do. I think ritual is absolutely everything. I think we need little, mini, what I call “micro–rituals” or “root rituals.” But then, we need larger community rituals where we are acknowledging one of the big holidays, like Yule. Rituals make things important; they mark transitions from different life stages; they are very holy ceremonies, even if they don’t come from some archaic understanding or knowledge. They can be just as important if they are something you co–created with your friend. I’m not raising my two sons to be witches because I don’t want them to be indoctrinated into religion the way that I was when I was younger. However, I do co–parent with their father, so they do have to go to church on Easter Sunday. So, there’s this majesty that they get from that ritual that they don’t get from these tiny practices that they might be doing with me in our home. That’s not something that can be competed with—the golden candlesticks and the majesty of the Easter celebration in a Catholic Church, right? So, I do think that there is this hunger for ritual and ceremony, particularly in people who may have been raised in religious traditions, and then they come away from it. We still need that ritual container, and it is innate and a human hunger. JJ: You mentioned that you have sons. How does a mother include this idea of the feminine when raising boys? I think it’s really important for both girls and boys to understand the masculine and feminine. DD: It’s getting harder! My sons are 9 and 12. When they were younger I didn’t even think about it. They are certainly closer to you when they are younger. So, they knew how to cast a circle and do things that I do in my own practice. I think that my simple answer to your question is to have them outside as much as possible, which is getting more difficult the more screen–based our society becomes. I think that we all have the feminine in us, and it’s just honoring it as much as possible. It’s taking them outside to see these things that they shouldn’t take for granted—the flower blooming or that strawberry you grew. SS: What is your intention for The Holy Wild? DD: My biggest intention for the book is to say that the reader’s story is important. There are a lot of opportunities in the book to look at the elements; Earth, Fire, Water, Air and Ether, and the way those elements resonate and resonate with the Divine Feminine, or with certain Goddess archetypes and how that relates to your personal story. DOUGLAS BENTLEY AT FLOWERING HEART CENTER March 9 and 10, 2019, Wheaton, IL by Theresa Puskar “I was a very adamant seeker, so much so that it completely hindered my spiritual growth. There was a constant obsession to get somewhere, to achieve something. It was such a huge hindrance, but for years, I couldn’t see it! At a certain point, I had shifts that happened to me where I saw the truth of what I am. It was so extraordinary and so commonsense all at the same time, that it halted the one, horrible act of seeking.” Every once in a while, I hear a spiritual teacher speak, and I know that I’ve just been picked up by my next major transport truck, as I hike along the bumpy road of my spiritual path. That trucker races Theresa Puskar, Douglas Bentley and Kasia Szumal me past the short, arduous distances I would have otherwise trekked one foot in front of the other. I am spared the exhaustion and deeper blisters that more painfully etch themselves between my toes in my well–worn hiking boots. I experienced this with Dr. David R. Hawkins, then again with Eckhart Tolle 14

and Sri Bhagavan—and now, about six years later, with Doug Bentley. He opened the evening with the statement above, and I was aghast. He references the “deeply committed, adamant seeker” which I drive and pride myself to be, as a hindrance to my spiritual growth. Wait a second. I thought my commitment and passion would get me where I need to go. I have a great deal vested in my belief that my adamant seeking will ultimately set me free! Not so? Despite my ego’s massive resistance, when I first heard Doug make this statement, I knew that he was right. “If I build myself up with another spiritual seeking [modality], I am still in prison—I just now added a yoga mat into my cell!” I probably own too many barely broken–in yoga mats or barely–read book. While some part of me doesn’t like where this is going at all, another deeper knowing within me sees that he has hit on something profound…something I need to hear! Doug has a long history with Oneness University, as he spent 10+ years as a monk with them in India. He headed up the American student body. For those of you who are new to my column, Oneness University hosted a month-long Deepening Program that I participated in in 2013. Doug was a devotee
of the founders, Sri Bhagavan and Sri Amma, and spent a great deal of time under their one–on–one tutelage. From the moment I met him, I was moved by his spiritual commitment and his innate ability to speak the Truth in a way that was dynamic, wise and very practical. “The path to freedom is the path to falling out of thinking.” Doug explained that the more we live in the present moment and witness our lives, the closer we are to letting go of the labels and how–to’s that only serve to distract us from ultimate awakening. He encouraged meditation as a means to cultivating the witness-self and learning to stay in the present, but he did not provide us with a spiritual prescription. In fact, he joked about the wasted time he spent with 10 years of seeking behind him. Once he realized that all that’s required was and is here now, he was able to be more present. “Until you are helpless, God remains helpless... Lord, I can’t go any further. You HAVE to help me. You have to take over my responsibilities… We should ask and be soaked in miracles, constantly experiencing the supreme consciousness… It is not enough to know that your God can do something; you must discover that your God will do it.” When Doug made these statements, I felt a huge sense of release. I can be helpless. In fact, he encouraged us to cultivate a very personal relationship with whomever or whatever we experience as our Divine. We can ask for evidence of His interaction in our lives. For so many years, I carried such shame around my lack of faith. I beat myself up emotionally for not trusting that my Divine had my back. Then when Doug stated that there is no shame in asking for that which we desire and expecting to see evidence of their fruition, I again felt a sense of release. It’s okay not to have full faith until we have evidence. It’s okay to question.
“Thoughts are not YOUR thoughts… Any dialogues within your mind are the brain’s commentary. We have to be cool with that. Like a teething baby, we need not react, just know.” “When you breathe deeply, it brings up the kundalini and quiets the mind. Anxiety/shallow breathing does the opposite and as members of our society, we are all caught in the default of shallow breathing. With the use of breath, we fall into beingness.” “Awakening is not about knowing; it is only witnessing. There are no steps. It is falling out of the shackles of becoming more to fix, more to do, etc.” “Allow yourself to experience each moment vastly.” “Awaken to what is already happening. Witness the witness—that is it! There is nowhere to go and nothing to do!” “I must learn to be vulnerable to life’s situations and when others tap on that pain within me, allow myself to experience it. I, then, heal a layer between myself and the other person. Anybody can be my soulmate as long as I keep burning through the layers.” “Experience eating for the body as opposed to the mind.” “Nurture relationships. Every day, ask yourself, ‘What can I do that would make my mother’s day? Partner’s day? Child’s day? Boss’s day?’” “On healing: Let go of healing others, and let God do what God does.” Ten four trucker Doug. Thanks for adding to the many miles along my soul’s journey!
“Be vastly, rawly, honest with yourself and where you are. Drop every moment and start each anew. Dying into each moment, allow yourself to crack wide open and experience all—your heart will crack open more and more.

Doug unlocked a treasure trove of wisdom at this event. He re–contextualized misconceptions that I have likely been carrying for lifetimes. Not only did he feed my soul, I felt a newfound sense of enthusiasm for relating to my Divine on a more personal level. Part of me was back in India again. However, I became acutely aware that there has been quite a journey from the time I left the plane in Chennai in 2013 to being picked up by trucker Doug this past weekend. There are a couple of good–sized cracks in my ego’s armor. There’s definitely more to come!

8 WAYS TO FOSTER
SELF–LOVE by Debra Landwehr Engle Imagine that a three–year–old says to you, “I’m bad. I don’t deserve to be loved.” How would you respond? Without hesitation, you would scoop up that three–year–old in your arms and say, “Of course, you deserve to be loved. Don’t ever let anyone tell you otherwise!” You would have no doubt about this. Despite any misbehavior on the child’s part, you’d have pure conviction and clarity when stating the obvious: Of course, you deserve to be loved! Your ego mind is like that three–year–old. It has taken on messages, programming and self–talk that say it’s bad and not worthy of joy, peace, love, success, abundance or well–being. But, that’s not true. So, here’s what I want you to do: Start reacting to your own ego just the way you would to that three–year–old. When you hear your ego voice saying, “I’m not worthy,” say instead, “Of course, I’m worthy.” 16
| CONSCIOUS COMMUNITY MAGAZINE MAY 2019
When your ego voice says, “I’ll never lose weight,” say instead, “Of course, I’ll lose weight.” When your ego voice says, “I don’t deserve to do work I enjoy,” say instead, “Of course, I deserve to do work I enjoy.” When your ego voice says, “I don’t have anyone I can count on,” say instead, “Of course, I have people I can count on.” This does two things: It shows you how preposterous the ego’s claims are, and it affirms that there’s no need to live according to the ego’s limited view of who you are—not when you’re the light of the world. Loving your Self means deciding what’s going to have power over you and what’s not. This comes down to what you value. If you value wrongly, A Course in Miracles says you won’t have peace. Value rightly, and joy is yours. This means you have to make a choice about what you want to
rule your life. Will it be anger? Blame? Overwhelm? Illness? Scarcity? Poverty? Oppression? Despair? Or will it be hopefulness? Forgiveness? Acceptance? Gratitude? Prosperity? Abundance? Faith? For instance, is your anger toward politicians going to rule you? Or are you going to respond to their actions by expressing your light? When your kids leave their dirty dishes in the sink, are you going to react with snarkiness or find a peaceful resolution? If a coworker tries to sabotage you, are you going to retaliate or have an honest conversation? Love your Self enough to value rightly, because what you choose as your overriding ideals will determine the quality of your life. You can be in what seems to be life’s lowest circumstances, but if you climb onto a higher ideal, you can soar. The most powerful and Self–loving thing you can do is decide who and what you are and what’s right for you, then claim it. Once you do that, you’re invulnerable to other people’s judgments and opinions.
SO, WHAT CAN YOU DO TO FOSTER SELF–LOVE? 1. Build trust by talking to Spirit every morning and night. In addition, say “thank you” for spiritual guidance at least a dozen times throughout the day. Develop your relationship with Spirit so it becomes as tangible a source of support as your friends and family. 2. Surround yourself with joy. Place at least one message of joy—a plaque, a river rock, a poster, a ref rigerator magnet—in every room of your house. Create an environment that reminds you of what you are. 3. Get honest with yourself. Ask yourself questions that will give you clarity: Am I doing this to win people’s approval? Or because it’s what I want and believe? Is this an expression of my light? Or am I going along with what the world says, even though it doesn’t serve me? As you ask and receive answers, you’ll build a relationship with your Self, becoming better acquainted with the light that you are and how to express it. 4. Practice using and sharing your unique gifts. If you love to paint, do more of it and sell your creations or give them away. If you’re adept at fixing things, find others who want to learn and teach them. If you’re great at organizing things, help a friend clean out her kitchen cupboards. As you express your gifts in the world, you’ll be blessed by the sharing, which will strengthen your sense of Self. 5. Prepare more meals with love, and bless everything you eat. These simple actions literally nourish you with light, energizing your Self and your connection with others. 6. Apologize when you’ve spilled your fear all over someone. This will wipe the slate clean for both of you, so you’re not carrying any guilt, anger, or regret. 7. Identify a situation in your life that has been stewing or
left unattended for a while. It could be a conversation you need to have, a bill you need to pay or an argument you need to resolve. Leaving things unattended saps your energy and indicates a lack of trust and self–worth. So, remember the light that you are, ask Spirit for help, and allow your Self to be led to a resolution. When you bring love to the situation, you can take care of it more easily than you might think. 8. Remember that you’re always talking to yourself. Any time you express thoughts, words or actions that are meant to hurt others, you’re always hurting yourself. There are no exceptions. That’s why the Golden Rule isn’t just a moral commandment, it’s also good mental health. If you call someone an idiot in your mind or aloud, you’re disrespecting yourself. If you watch TV and think to yourself, “Wow, she’s ugly,” you’re talking to yourself. If you condemn the driver who just cut in front of you, you’re punishing yourself. The way you respond to others will tell you a lot about your own light and Self–love. If a guarded person causes you to shut down, you’ve got your own blockages to look at. If a guarded person prompts you to send blessings to them while you stay in a place of peace, then your light is shining freely. Since you’re always talking to yourself, listening to what you say—or want to say—to others will be a good benchmark of your own Self–love. If you’re always seeking approval or love from the external world without feeling it in yourself, you’ll spend your life wandering, looking for permission to be who you are and searching for external validation of your right to exist. One minute your partner sends you flowers and you feel loved. The next minute someone elbows past you on the subway and you feel invisible. This is why we see the world as an ugly and dangerous place. We’re hoping to trust it with our Self–worth, and it continually disappoints us. Your Self–worth is not “out there.” It is in you and your connection to Source. Whenever you start looking for it in a relationship or a possession or a belief or an institution, you’re setting up a love–hate relationship with the world and yourself. Remember that the light is in you. Look inside. Look inside. Look inside. Don’t be afraid. Your ego will post guards at the door and try to convince you not to go in, but there is nothing but light inside you. [FROM THE HEART]
THE BEST THAT CAN HAPPEN by Alan Cohen
My coaching client Andrea has struggled with issues of lack and poor self– worth for a lot of her life. Although she is smart, spiritual and attractive, she has regularly feared that she would become impoverished and bereft. She told me, “Whenever I drive under a bridge, I check it out to see where I would set up cardboard boxes for myself and my kids to live in, in case we lose it all.” I asked Andrea if she was in danger of losing it all, and she firmly answered, “No.” This dear woman has always been provided for, and even as a single mom, she has manifested various means of support. But the fear of not enough has 18
| CONSCIOUS COMMUNITY MAGAZINE MAY 2019
siphoned off her happiness. In coaching we underscored the fact that Andrea has always had enough for herself and her children, and there is no reason that would change. But fear is not based on reason; it is based on illusions. I see the same tailspin fantasy in many clients, as well as myself. When faced with a challenge, our mind goes to the worst thing that could happen, and we start preparing for it. When I ask clients, who face a difficult situation, “What’s the worst thing that could happen?” they usually have a well–prepared list of possible dark outcomes. When I ask, “What’s the best thing that could happen?” they
usually take a while to think of an answer. They are so practiced in pessimism that optimism hasn’t crossed their mind. When we start to explore positive outcomes, the client’s demeanor changes radically; they get excited about opportunities, and begin to activate them by stepping in healthy, productive directions. It’s not just challenges that stimulate fear, so does success. The ego will take every opportunity to wedge itself into our experience and turn blessings into problems. When something wonderful happens, we may start to think about what could go wrong. United Airlines once sent me an unexpected
gift of a free round–trip flight anywhere. I went to my travel agent and asked him if the award was for real. After reading the terms of the award, he affirmed, “Sure, you can use this anytime, anywhere.” I kept double–checking with him until I walked out of his office, the ticket he printed in hand. When I finally took that flight, it represented to me the reality of grace, and reminded me that I must let it in. When you think, “this is too good to be true,” immediately shift your affirmation to, “this is good enough to be true.” In the big picture, only the good is true. Everything else is a warped perspective. A Course in Miracles tells us that only love is real and all else is a nightmare we have fabricated. Fears of lack and loss are part of the nightmare. Confidence in well–being and the presence of benevolence is the awakening. When things get really good, some people wait for “the other shoe to drop,” expecting that some threat or challenge is lurking around the corner. This is another trick of the fearful mind, a limiting belief calling us to transcend it. What if, instead, we decided that something good happening is a sign that more good, perhaps even better, will come? Inspirational author Mike Dooley says, “When something good happens, the chances of something equally good or better following it increase astronomically.” Abraham–Hicks calls us to affirm, “the better it gets, the better it gets.” The motto of the Boy Scouts is, “Be prepared.” Good advice. The question is, “What are you prepared for?” If you are preparing only for disaster, you miss out on preparing for blessings. You cannot be preparing simultaneously for failure and success. Jesus said, “You cannot serve two masters.” Either you are placing your canoe in the stream of love and trust, or you are placing your canoe in the stream of fear and protectiveness. A Course in Miracles asks us to remember, “In my defenselessness my safety lies.” The more we defend ourselves, the more we need to defend. The more we recognize we are protected by Higher Power, the more energy we liberate for creativity and healing.
Do what you need to do to feel safe. Have insurance, lock your door, and choose a secure password, if your find those acts helpful. Meanwhile, consider where your real safety comes from. Are you sustained by money, position, medicine, prestige and possessions? Or are you sustained by the grace of God? Use the things of the world, but fall back on the Source of all good. A business mentor told me, “Act as if success is inevitable.” People who act as if success is forthcoming succeed more than those who worry about failing. A salesman friend of mine based his career on “the assumed close.” Treat all of your customers as if they are going to buy. They may not all buy, but more will buy than if you treat them as if they may not buy. The universe is created in utter “enoughness.” God is not stingy, but extravagant. Everything created con-
tains the seeds of much more like itself. It is said, “A person can count the number of seeds in an apple, but only God can count the number of apples in a seed.” When we recognize the riches within us and around us, we don’t have to size up freeway bridges as potential shelters. We can see bridges as symbolic of crossing the chasm from abysmal lack to lavish supply. Alan Cohen is the bestselling author of the newly-released Spirit Means Business: The Way to Prosper Wildly Without Selling Your Soul, illuminating how you can successfully merge your career and financial path with your spiritual life. He will present a program related to this book on the US Mainland (West Coast) in August. The Aetherius Society will present evidence for prophecies made by extraterrestrial intelligences through medium and Yoga Master, Dr. George King (1919–1997). Dr. King founded The Aetherius Society in 1955 based on communications that he was receiving from advanced extraterrestrial beings. These Cosmic Transmissions with Dr. King resulted in outstanding prophecies about planetary changes that are now being substantiated. The Masters further stated that the Mother Earth, as a highly evolved conscious Being, is quickening
her vibrations in alignment with an evolutionary transformation that is occurring throughout Creation. The extraterrestrial messages received by Dr. King have a profound implication for all humanity as these Earth changes manifest with an increased intensity upon our world. During the presentation, extracts from Cosmic Transmissions as they were delivered through Dr. King, will be played while recent data will be presented in support of these predictions — even though science has difficulty understanding these Earth changes. DAWNING OF A NEW EARTH by Dave Capraro In 1955, Dr. George King (1919 – 1997), a medium and yoga master, began publicly channeling messages from sources claiming to be extraterrestrial and millions of years ahead of us in spirituality and science. Besides their interest in our well–being, their messages have since been substantiated in different ways. In the early 1990s, many scientists didn’t know if there were any other planets in the universe outside of our solar system. Now, almost 30 years later, the cover of the March 2019 issue of National Geographic proclaims: WE ARE NOT ALONE. It states: “…there are at least 25 billion places where life could conceivably take hold in our galaxy alone—and our galaxy is one among trillions.” And that, “Any civilization we would be able to detect will likely be millions, perhaps billions of years ahead of us.” The Aetherius Society, which Dr. King founded in England in 1955, believes these extra–terrestrial intelligences, referred to as “Cosmic Masters”, are indeed millions—if not billions—of years ahead of us in evolution and that they see us currently standing on the verge of our own destruction. At the same time, they have stated that, if we make the right choices, we can fashion a bright new world free from war, starvation and so much unnecessary suffering. In a series of transmissions delivered through Dr. King in 1960, they further conveyed that planet 24

Earth is a living, feeling, ultra–conscious and sacred being that would not be allowed to suffer at the hands of the human race much longer. This may all sound fantastical but for the fact that many of these prophecies, given almost 60 years ago, now appear to be coming true regardless of how unbelievable they may have seemed at the time.
AN INCREASE IN COSMIC AND ULTRAVIOLET RAYS Central to these Cosmic Transmissions was the warning that the Mother Earth was due for a great change and that the planet would be receiving more Cosmic and Solar Energies. This change was first announced on April 7, 1960, while Dr. King was visiting Detroit, Michigan, in a Transmission entitled The Initiation of Earth. “The Masters stated that our planet is in the early stages of a transformation into a shining new world that we will only be able to inhabit if we transform and accelerate our own evolution.” Four years later, on August 22, 1964, they went on to say, “It was also decided that the main barriers of protection around Terra should be kept in place, but some of them could now be dispensed with…your cosmic ray co unt will rise even higher than it is at the moment and as you already know, it has been rising steadily. Your ultraviolet count will also rise.”
In July 2014, it was announced by the scientific community that data gathered by the European Space Agency (SWARM) satellites showed the magnetic field of Earth was weakening by five percent every 10 years—10 times faster than previously thought. One result of a weaker magnetic field can be a greater influx of Cosmic Energies to Earth. Also announced in July 2014 was the highest reading of ultraviolet (UV) radiation ever recorded on Earth. The readings were taken 11 years earlier in 2003. Reported readings of 43 on the UV scale were recorded in Bolivia, not far from the equator and nowhere near the ozone hole of Antarctica. By contrast, a reading of six to eight is considered high and any reading over 11 is extreme. Other parts of the globe are reporting increases in UV rays. In the southern hemisphere, Australia has experienced an annual increase of two to six percent since 1959, while the International Prevention Research Institute has concluded that UV radiation in Europe appears earlier in the year and farther north than originally believed.
CHANGE IN AXIS POSITION – POLES CHANGING PLACE WITH EQUATOR In another Transmission delivered on July 19, 1960, during an interview with Dr. King on the Tom Duggan TV show in Los Angeles, the Cosmic Master, Aetherius, stated, “…The net result of this great change will manifest in two major ways. One: an exchange—a difference in the position of the axis of your world. The poles will change places with the equator.” The north magnetic pole’s movement is now moving about five times faster than it was 50 years ago. Many scientists believe that the weakening magnetic field and faster moving north magnetic pole indicate a possible magnetic pole flip. Meanwhile, in 2000, NASA reported that the spin axis of Earth, which normally moves a few inches per year, unexpectedly made an abrupt change of direction and doubled the speed of its movement.
FLOODING THAT COULD OCCUR QUICKLY OR SLOWLY The Master Aetherius also stated, “My friends, the change can take place in one or two ways: either quickly (and it is obvious what will happen if it does so), or more slowly, so that the resultant flooding of part of your world will not necessarily cause a loss of life.” Flooding is occurring as our oceans rise, rivers become swollen from torrential rains, and undersea earthquakes cause tsunamis. PRIMARY INITIATION OF EARTH The most significant of all the 600 Transmissions received by Dr. King was on July 8, 1964, from multiple Cosmic Masters. It described what the Masters termed “The Primary Initiation of Earth,” an incomparable technological feat to radiate tremendous Cosmic Energies to our planet. They stated that the Mother Earth had temporarily chosen to hold these energies in abeyance for the protection of humanity, but that she would soon begin to release this Cosmic Energy for her own benefit.
In 2018, scientists reported multiple recordings of what have been called “impossible” or “mysterious” cosmic rays coming from inside the Earth which has physicists “scratching their heads trying to figure out what on earth is going on,” according to the online journal Big Think. It is The Aetherius Society’s understanding that the Mother Earth is holding within great Cosmic Energies that She is beginning to release. She is also beginning to receive more energies from the Cosmos as certain barriers are lifted. These changes will allow Her to function more fully as a cell in a sacred living universe. The Aetherius Society’s primary purpose is to help facilitate this great change in such a way that minimizes suffering for our world and affords everyone the opportunity to help fashion the destined new Earth of enlightenment and lasting peace. A special presentation about the Dawning of a New Earth and the teachings of the Cosmic Masters will be given in Chicago on Friday, May 24 from 6–7 p.m. at Equilibrium Energy + Education, 850 S. Wabash Ave. Suite 300. Chicago, IL 60605. Call 248–588–0290 for more information. Dave Capraro has been the Organizer of the Michigan Branch of The Aetherius Society, based in Royal Oak, since 1985. www.aetherius.org

THE SECRET OF HAPPINESS by Ajahn Brahm To live happily is to live in peace, with acceptance, with love—not with love as in how you love a person, but how you love life. You might not always get along with your loved ones, you might argue or quibble with them, but you love them nonetheless. Similarly, life might give you a hard time, but you can always love life. We need to open the door of our hearts to life. When things get difficult we do not think, “This should have never happened.” Instead, we accept it as part of life; it is where we learn and grow. I do not call it suffering, I call it “growing pains.” It seems as if there are more people who are “unhappy” nowadays, compared with the past. This has to do 26
| CONSCIOUS COMMUNITY MAGAZINE MAY 2019
with expectations. So many people are unhappy today because their expectations of themselves and of life are too high. If you are not in the place you want to be right now, move where you want to be to your current situation. Adjust your expectations and then you will be satisfied with life. Where do expectations come from? They come from ourselves, from society and our world. Do not listen to the world, do not worry about living up to those expectations. Listen to your heart; listen to wisdom. Where you are should be where you want to be. That is the secret of happiness. Don’t force yourself toward an unrealistic goal. If you have an unrealistic goal
you will fail and when you fail you will feel like you are not worth anything, so lower your expectations. It is quite intuitive, but it runs counter to what we have been taught. In this world, we tend to listen to what others tell us. We listen to experts, but they also don’t know. Knowledge and wisdom are always a work in progress; it is never complete. For example, people always think that to be happy you have to be successful, which is completely wrong. There are some psychologists who say that you have to be happy first and that success will follow. Neither are true. Instead, happiness is success. It is not what others think, write or say about you; you need to be happy with your-
self first. When you can be kind and compassionate to yourself, only then can you show kindness and compassion to others. If you have children, please be kind to them. The education system here is too focused on competition. Parents need to accept that half of the children in any country have below average intelligence. This is logical; it’s what the definition of average means. Going to a top school or university is not going to make them happy. It’s other stuff, like being together with family. What your children need is time with you. Not being told off, not having good grades or good clothes. If they are happy, they are successful. Children in Finland, for instance, do not start school until seven. They never have any homework, and they continue to score at the top of the international education scale. They grow—they are not pushed or forced—
they grow at their own rate. As much as one does not force a tree to grow faster, we should not force our children. Why do we treat our kids like products in a factory? Why do we force them to do not what they want to do, but what the parents want? Having a good time is an important part of learning. Children are inquisitive, they want to learn, but if you force them you stunt this inquisitiveness. Ajahn Brahm is an internationally renowned Buddhist teacher and bestselling author. THE CONNECTION BETWEEN MIND AND BODY by Romina Vintila When it comes to our health and our body image, many factors come into play. We look at commercials, we are bombarded with social media posts on what it is to be beautiful, what standards we must uphold, from television to magazines, it is everywhere. But what does it all have in common? It targets our minds. In order to start a better health regimen, we have to tackle a very important element in the equation to better health and better health esteem: our minds. Our minds are powerful tools in our weight loss, or any other goal that has to do with bettering our bodies and getting the most out of them. Approaching this in a way that targets structures we may or may not be aware of can dismantle some of our most resilient doubting beliefs. These are the beliefs we hold about our own abilities as well as our own self worth. Do we want to look beautiful, or feel beautiful? Which is more important? Our minds can trigger many different bodily processes, as we all know and have felt the ‘fight or flight’ symptoms, when an acute stressor is in our environment, we get startled, our heart rates go up, our pulse is out of control, we are more alert, and we also produce cortisol, the stress hormone. However, this shuts down other bodily functions, for preservation. The stomach is one of them, and hence digestion becomes very difficult. Bruce Lipton, a consciousness pioneer in the field of biology, explains this. He mentions that when we are in fear mode, in alert mode, we cannot grow, we have no energy left. How else can we grow if we are stuck in a stressful environment? Better yet, how can we grow and allow our bodies to thrive if we are in a stressful mind environment? Well, the mind processes and thinks too many thoughts to count on a daily basis, but worrying about something puts us in an endless spiral of nonsense, scenarios that will never happen, however, they steal our energy. This also puts the body into a fearful, agitated state. The mind is powerful, in that it can trigger stress hormones, but also feel good hormones. So which ones do we choose? It sounds simplistic, but it is also difficult, because we are dealing with the mind. So what tools do we have that can take us out of our head and into more good feelings? The mind can be an endless trap, and it not only forms scenarios that are worrisome, it also takes us into an altered perspective of our own reality, and others. If we criticize ourselves too harshly, then what tells us we are not also the same with others? Some reminders are: thoughts come and go. The past is over with, and we cannot control everything, so it is good to just let go. Also, what purpose does it serve us? 28
| CONSCIOUS COMMUNITY MAGAZINE MAY 2019
It steals our energy that could be used towards much greater things. The way we see the world is through the mental lens, however, we must also be reminded to follow the heart and allow joy into our being- and see the wonders of all aspects of ourselves. A world trapped in the mind is a scary, ego run, mad world. What makes us feel alive? What makes us laugh? We have to pursue those things with a bit more commitment, rather than be consumed by the everyday, mundane existence, the trivial worries. By allowing yourself to just open up to what could be, not what was, perhaps new horizons will reveal themselves. You are making room for surprises, spontaneity, and miracles! Once we achieve a clearer mind state, we can start a meditation on becoming more present and aware of the body. Breathing is very powerful and special, remember to breathe in pure, new light, and breathe out the old toxins. Purify your body through breath. Also, start feeling your own heartbeat, or any type of bodily awareness, in a mindful meditation space. It can be 10 minutes out of your day while waiting for something, or riding in a car. It can be anywhere. Remember to listen to your body. Is it hungry? Is it thirsty? It knows best. The mind pollutes it so much that we lose touch with our own physiology! I believe that is the main cause for most overeating, undereating, and even drug abuse. We lose too much awareness of our bodies, we torment them so much with the mind, that then when they feel out of sync, we try to repair that hole with food, alcohol, or negative things for it. It is a vicious cycle that started with one big problem: the mind not allowing, not relaxing, always judging. Once you are aware of your body and your surroundings, you can appreciate yourself and everything that much more. One of the powerful books that inspires that present awareness to me is The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle, unmistakably, one of the most powerful books out there. It is incredibly enlightening and bridges that gap that our society has placed on mind, body, spirit. We are all three, but we cannot identify with just one, can we? So treat your body as you would treat your most prized loved ones, e.g. a child. It needs things, it craves things, and that is alright. But once we honor our bodies and their wondrous nature, we can fully appreciate ourselves and others. Sometimes, it starts with silencing the mind in a terribly noisy world, ending that inner critic. Hasn’t (s)he been given too much credit already? Romina Vintila is a Chicagoland writer, activist, and spiritual mentor. For over a decade, she’s been researching metaphysics, esoteric philosophy and has been published in OM Times and other publications. She loves fairytales and crystal healing.
THE FREQUENCY OVERLOAD IN OUR HIGH-TECH WORLD
In addition to creating health challenges, exposure to EMFs also creates depression, irritability, and stress. How many people feel the need to take anti-depressant medication, but can’t figure out what’s making them feel depressed? When you fight an “invisible enemy,” you have no idea what you are up against or what you can do to win the battle.
by Phyllis Light, Ph.D. Do you ever feel overwhelmed by life? Exhausted? Like you don’t have enough time or energy to get everything done? Do you ever wonder, deep down, if life is worth living like this? Life in our world today can be quite overwhelming and exhausting. But it is not because of what you may think. The culprit happens to be completely invisible, and thus often eludes us, as we seek solutions to alleviate the stress we feel. Think about how often you interact with anything electric, electronic or battery-powered? You probably carry a cellphone with you all the time. There is a battery in the cellphone, and there are electronic frequencies that get broadcast to the cellphone that allow it to function. Some people even sleep with their phone under their pillow, or beside their bed, exposing themselves, throughout the night, to the electromagnetic fields (EMFs) that the phone generates. You may use that cellphone or other wireless device daily, checking your emails, texting your friends and family, or connecting with Facebook and other social media. Or you probably use a computer daily, at home or work. When you get in your car, you may listen to Sirius radio, filling you with electronic frequencies from overhead satellite transmissions. When you go to your local coffee house, those same electronic frequencies usually fill the air. You may enjoy movies and videos that are streamed to your TV, computer, or other mobile device, via the internet, which is loaded with all kinds of detrimental fields and frequencies from all the electronic devices connected to it. Some people use a VOIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol), where they communicate on phone lines via the internet, also exposing themselves to the internet’s myriad of electronic frequencies. Often people use Skype, or post videos of themselves online, putting their faces and bodies in the electromagnetic fields of the camera, computer, and internet as well. So what is the problem with being exposed to all these EMFs? Isn’t this just a “normal” part of life? Here is the problem: Anything electric, electronic, or battery-powered creates an unnatural electromagnetic field that has a weakening effect on the human energy field surrounding a person’s body. The more your energy field gets weakened, the more health problems can ensue—fatigue, headaches, eyestrain, allergies, asthma, ADHD, Alzheimer’s, cancer, and a variety of autoimmune system disorders that plague people in our world today, as a result of the frequency overload.
We are swimming in a soup of life-damaging frequencies daily, from the moment we wake up until the moment we go to sleep, and throughout the night as well! Here are some suggestions as to what you can do to alleviate the stress to some degree: • Limit your use of electronics. Take a 30 minute rest from your computer or other mobile device every 30 minutes. • Don’t give up your land line (i.e., use your cellphone only for emergencies). • Install your wireless internet in a way that you can turn it off at night, so that the frequencies don’t continually bombard you while you’re sleeping. • Get a regular alarm clock to help you wake up, and turn your cellphone off at night. • Don’t sit with the TV remote control on your lap (remember, it has a battery in it.) • Don’t post “a million photos” of yourself—or your newborn baby—on the internet or on your cellphone! • Talk with your neighbors about turning off their WiFi at night (since their networks are usually generating frequencies in YOUR place as well!!) These suggestions may seem impractical, but any steps you can take to reduce the enormous amount of life-damaging bombardments you sustain daily can only bring relief and alleviate suffering. We are being unbelievably challenged in our world today on so many levels, and the more you can reduce your exposure to all the high-tech frequencies, the more your mind, body, and spirit will thank you! Phyllis Light, Ph.D, in Psychology, counselor, and author, is an expert in “Telepathic Healing.” With over 35 years of experience, Dr. Light has done pioneering subtle energy research, creating the Rejuvenizer technology, to protect from and repair damage to a person’s energy field from life in a high-tech world. FULL MOON MAY 18, 2019 Giving and Receiving Support by Donna Stellhorn
30
This month, we have the Taurus/Scorpio Full Moon. This energy shines a light on what you value and how others may support you. There are decisions to make but choices get easier when you know your values. If the family connection is more important than financial security, then you may choose the expensive private school for the kids and economize somewhere else. If your contribution to the world is more important than leisure time, you may spend your weekends volunteering for a charity. This month, the energy suggests you will consider your values and the order they fall in. It’s good to prioritize the values of certainty, variety, significance, love and connection, growth and contribution. Once you have the order, decisions are much easier.
You could describe the energy of this star as “pride goes before the fall.”
In this Full Moon, the Sun is on the Pleiades. This is a cluster of stars with mixed energies. It can bring great ambition and financial rewards, but it comes with the warning of not cutting corners or taking an easy (perhaps illegal) route.
And finally, of course, there’s Saturn and Pluto inching closer together. We’ll be talking about these two powerful forces for the next year or so. This month consider what a leader is. Saturn with Pluto asks you to accept
| CONSCIOUS COMMUNITY MAGAZINE MAY 2019
This Full Moon marks Mars going into Cancer and moving to sextile Uranus. This can indicate you have a lot of drive to get things done. This can bring overtime hours or a second job. This can also mean there are a lot of projects at home such as renovating the interior and landscaping the yard. Mercury is combust the Sun. This energy can bring challenges in communication with others. People seem to disappear or you want to hide out in your PJs and watch TV for days at a time. This is temporary. In a few days, you’re back in the flow of things and ready to take on the world.
the responsibility of a leadership role. You don’t have to run a country, you may choose to be the moral compass for your family or an inspiration to your friends. The good you do will ripple out and influence many. Here are my predictions for each sign.
ARIES You are well on your way to completing something of value. This may be a report for work, a school project or a creative endeavor. It’s time to stamp it done and release it to the world. Finances are highlighted and you may have an increase in income this month. There may be a financial windfall connected to home and family. A love affair begun last month may start to fizzle unless you have a heart to heart talk. Long-term established relationships are feeling more solid. TAURUS You are very busy this month. You are pulled in many directions. Financial
opportunities center around communication. You may need to ask for a raise or ask for the sale. You would like a vacation but school or some work project seems to be a higher priority now. Due to recent changes in your life, your relationships are a bit challenging as others get used to your new schedule. However, if you’re looking for love, there’s good news as these changes are bringing you around new people.
GEMINI You are singled out for praise and recognition this month even though you’re not sure what all the fanfare is about. Money flows in from an unexpected source, however, it may go out again for something needed for the home or a family member. Investments are on your mind. Keep an eye on your accounts. There are happy evenings spent at home with loved ones. Established relationships are going well. If you’re looking for love, consider being in new places. The old haunts just aren’t doing it. CANCER This is a very busy month for Cancer natives. Friends and charitable activities have you running from one event to the next. You also may be putting in some overtime at work. This will help your financial bottom line though you may be wishing for a long weekend by the sea or a lake. While you’re doing your very best others seem unappreciative. Hear them out and then find a compromise. If you’re looking for love, consider attending a professional conference or the company team building event. LEO There may be changes in your career this month. You have an opportunity land on your desk that you were not expecting. This may signal a future job change or promotion. Finances are your mind but no need to worry; things are better than they first appear. Relationships are smooth and there may be contact with extended family. For those Leo natives hunting for love, make yourself visible by putting your profile on a dating site or by attending a social club for singles.
VIRGO Some last-minute issues may cause changes to a trip or vacation but everything will be fine in the end. Trust your intuition when it comes to trip insurance or getting changeable tickets. You may spend time apart from a loved one but your absence will bring you closer together in the future. An education project comes to a close. Finances are steady now after some changes over the last few months. Looking for love? Try swimming, surfing, sailing or other water sports. LIBRA Finances are the focus this month. It’s a good idea to review bank accounts and perhaps consolidate bills. Income improves and you can reduce some debt now. A work opportunity translates directly into more money in the months to come. There are changes at home and a feeling of disruption perhaps due to renovations or someone moving in or out. If you’re looking for love, consider taking it slowly and not “falling into bed” with someone too early in the relationship. SCORPIO This is your Full Moon. Relationships are on your mind this month. There can be changes for the better in your existing love relationship. There are breakthroughs and better understanding on both sides. Luck with money continues and you can take risks when it comes to career and job hunting. There may be a family issue around siblings or cousins that needs some discussion. If you’re looking for love, you have more options now than you’ve had in a while. Don’t hide at home. Get out and meet people. SAGITTARIUS Health issues are highlighted this month. You have the opportunity to find a solution to a problem you’ve had for a while. Finding helpful people is easier now. Try to get more rest or better-quality sleep by making some changes to your bedtime routine. Finances are improving as you’re doing more economizing. Family relation-
ships are going well. If you’re looking for love, consider getting into the gym, joining a hiking club or working in a community garden.
CAPRICORN The spotlight this month is on children and younger relatives. You may have a full schedule with visits from extended family or you may travel to see them. A close friend offers you a great compliment. A professional organization may ask you to take a leadership role. This gives you prestige but eats up some of your free time. Finances improve directly related to how many new people you talk to. People can bring job opportunities, sales or ideas. If you’re looking for love, no worries; love is looking for you. AQUARIUS You may be wrapping up a large project at work or be about to transition into another position. At the same time, there’s a lot going on at home and you may feel your schedule is as tight as it can be. While you may have some late nights, this is temporary. Finances improve with the changes you’re making. Family life grows happier. If you’re looking for love, consider attending events in your community, or travel to a music festival or large art show. PISCES You may be traveling this month, seeing relatives or friends. It’s a memorable trip you’ll cherish even if it’s short and just to the next town over. A film or video you see has a profound impact on your thinking. Finances improve as you get more creative in ways of making or saving money. You may receive some positive health news or a new option for you to try. A person who was a friend may return as a lover, or a friend of yours may be instrumental in introducing you to your next relationship. COSMIC DAILY WEATHER May 2019 by Bernadette Evans
Overview It actually feels like spring, and it’s time to literally—and figuratively—plant the seeds you want to see grow and flourish into something beautiful. As with most anything, being patient while giving your seeds and your intentions time to germinate and take root will all be worth it in the end. The New Moon is in Taurus this month on May 4 at 5:45 p.m. You’re asked to examine what it is you value, for some it’s being in a strong committed relationship or friendships; for others it’s about doing a good job at work; and for some, it could be about making your home more beautiful and inviting. There are many more examples, but the main idea is that with a clear focus on what you want to create and by putting in the work consistently, you’ll see results.
The Mercury–Saturn square may challenge you to get some work done. Your efforts to impress the boss could pay off when you enthusiastically put your interesting ideas forward and showcase your skills. Moon enters the sign of Aries at 5:24 a.m.
Thursday, May 2
The Full Moon is in Scorpio this month on May 18 at 4:11 p.m. You’re asked to dive below the surface and check in with how you feel. What are you feeling and saying or not saying in your relationships? There’s a lot of passion and intensity with this Moon. You could want to withdraw, bottle everything up and ignore any problems, hoping that they’ll just go away, but they won’t. Not speaking about it won’t solve anything. An honest discussion of what you both want and need will help you move forward together or to move on from the relationship. Either way, this Moon can be healing and transformative, even if it doesn’t feel like it at the time.
There is a desire to be engaged in harmonious relationships with the Moon– Venus conjunction. Sometimes to be in–step with your partner means you’re the one leading and guiding; and at other times, in this dance, you need to follow your partner’s direction.
The Moon takes about 28 days to complete her orbit through the 12 signs, approximately two and a half days in each sign. When we say the Moon is Void–of–Course (VoC,) it means the Moon makes no more major aspects to other planets until it leaves the sign it is in. At these times, it can be difficult to get focused and accomplish tasks; you may want to relax, meditate or do something where your focus is directed inward. Don’t try to get a new project off the ground when the Moon is void. If you want to find out more about the VoC Moon, check out Moontracks.com.

The Moon is VoC in Aries, for a good chunk of today. You may be feeling impatient and want to get things done, but the pieces just aren’t falling into place. Everyone seems to have their own agenda, including you; so just relax and let everyone voice their opinions and share their ideas without running roughshod over them. Moon VoC at 3:47 a.m. until 3:18 p.m. when it enters the sign of Taurus.
Saturday, May 4 With the New Moon in Taurus today, you may want to ground yourself by going out for a walk; getting outside can do wonders for the body and soul. You may also want to examine your finances, having a good grasp of your financial situation can provide a feeling of security and stability. New Moon at 5:45 p.m. in Taurus.
Sunday, May 5 Happy Cinco de Mayo! Your passion and enthusiasm for entertaining all the possibilities and the bigger picture are admirable with the Mars–Jupiter opposition. However, you may want to wait until tomorrow when the Moon is direct; not to mention, it’s the start of the work week, a good day to get the ball rolling! Moon VoC at 10:10 a.m. until 10:40 p.m. when it enters the sign of Gemini.
Monday, May 6 You may have a lot of ideas percolating, but they’re grounded in common sense and practicality with the Moon in Gemini and Mercury entering the sign of Taurus. Remember to be open to others’ ideas and not get stuck on one thing because you’re being stubborn. Mercury enters the sign of Taurus.
Tuesday, May 7 Today’s Venus–Saturn square may challenge you and leave you feeling isolated or lonely. Take some time to figure out what you want and need in your relationships and what you bring to the table as well. All relationships go through ups and downs but knowing who you are and what you want can smoothe the way. Moon VoC at 6:50 p.m.
Wednesday, May 8
ing a parent with the Moon–Saturn opposition leaving you feeling separate and isolated. This is a short transit and will pass quickly, so either refrain from saying anything that could rock the boat or try and find some middle ground to keep the peace. Moon VoC at 9:06 p.m.
Friday, May 10 The Moon–Uranus square may motivate you to get out there today and join a group, or spend time with like– minded individuals. Sunday, May 12 Happy Mother’s Day! When the Moon enters Virgo, it feels appropriate to acknowledge all the work that mothers, female or male, and those that aren’t mothers in the usual sense of the word, do for all those around them. Honoring those who have used their gifts to nurture and help others grow seems apropos. Besides honoring moms, you may feel the need to clean house, cook a healthy meal or spend some time finishing up a chore—to each their own! Moon VoC at 7:24 a.m. until 11:22 a.m. when it enters the sign of Virgo.
Monday, May 13
The Mercury–Uranus conjunction could bring you some unexpected news about finances. Your ability to come up with inventive solutions and implement them in a practical manner can help you today. Moon enters the sign of Cancer at 4:06 a.m.
The Moon–Neptune opposition may throw you off balance today. You could feel you are being pulled in many directions, confused about what to do first and can’t get any work done. Take a breath, slow down, and use your intuition to hone in on one area at a time to assist you.

Friday, May 17 When Mercury quincunx’s Jupiter you may find yourself making modifications to any contracts you’re writing up or signing. Saturday, May 18 The Full Moon in Scorpio shines a spotlight on our relationships and what’s going on beneath the surface. Is there something unsaid that needs to come out? Speaking your truth can be healing for everyone involved and prove transformative. Full Moon at 4:11 p.m. Moon VoC at 4:11 p.m. until 8:21 p.m. when it enters the sign of Sagittarius.

CELEBRATING CINCO DE MAYO WITH Quinoa Taco & Cauliflower Queso by Betsy Bruns My mom would have been so proud to know that I am going to be contributing to Conscious Community Magazine! We lost her to colon cancer two years ago, and the experience gave birth to a greater personal consciousness and appreciation of community. Walking the end of life journey with my mom has amplified my passion to guide others to a healthier and more delicious life with plant-based cooking and eating. This month, as we honor our mothers, we also celebrate Cinco de Mayo, which is held on May 5th to commemorate the Mexican Army’s victory over the French Empire at the Battle of Puebla in 1862. Cinco de Mayo celebratory foods are often enchiladas, nachos and tacos. I love Mexican food, but many traditional dishes are loaded with meat, cheese and lard, which are not known to be heart healthy. Did you know that most comfort foods can be made plantbased? This means they will have a bounty of nutrients and fiber without cholesterol or saturated fats. I hope you give these recipes a try.
QUINOA TACO FILLING 1 cup quinoa 1 cup low-sodium vegetable broth 3/4 cup water 1/2 cup chunky salsa 2 teaspoon ground cumin 2 teaspoon ground chili powder 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder 1/2 teaspoon each sea salt and black pepper 1 tablespoon aquafaba (bean juice) or olive oil Preheat oven to 375°F.
Toast quinoa in a medium to large sauce pan for four to five minutes, stirring frequently. Next, pour in vegetable broth and water and bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Reduce heat to low and cover with a lid and cook for 15 to 25 minutes, or until liquid is completely absorbed. Fluff with a fork, then crack lid and let rest for 10 minutes off of the heat. Add the remaining ingredients to the pot (salsa, cumin, chili powder, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and aquafaba (or olive oil) and stir. Spread the mixture on a lightly greased or parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake for 20 to 35 minutes, stirring/tossing once at the halfway point to ensure even cooking. The quinoa is done when it’s nicely browned with some crispy pieces. If you like it crispier, cook a little longer, being careful not to overdo or it will be dry. This quinoa taco filling is sensational in crispy or soft taco shells. You can also add to Mexican buddha bowls, nachos or eat straight off the baking pan!
VEGAN CAULIFLOWER “QUESO” Pressure Cooker ingredients* 1/2 head medium cauliflower 1 cup water 3/4 cup chopped or julienne carrots 1/4 cup raw cashews
Mix-in ingredients 1 10-oz can diced tomatoes with green chiles, drained 1/2 cup chopped bell pepper (optional) 2 tablespoons minced red onion (optional) *A pressure cooker is optional. See instructions below. Add the cauliflower, water and cashews to your pressure cooker and cook on high-pressure for five minutes. Do a quick pressure release. If not using a pressure cooker, add cauliflower, water and cashews to a medium pot and boil until the vegetables are tender. Pour the cooked mixture into a strainer over the sink and drain the extra water. Add the drained mixture along with the nutritional yeast, liquid drained from the canned tomatoes, carrots, chili powder, smoked paprika, salt and cumin into your blender. Blend until smooth. For the mix-ins, scoop out the blender contents into a mixing bowl and stir in the tomatoes and green chiles, bell pepper (if using) and minced onion (if using). This cauliflower “queso” is delicious at any temperature, but it’s best warmed. Try it for dipping, add into your favorite Mexican dish, pour over cooked potatoes, rice or just eat it with a spoon!
