Camp Director, Camp Huronda Full-time 9-Month - January to September Part-Time (1- 10 hr/week) October to December Ontario Area Manager, Ontario Camps In-Season (Jun-Aug) - Camp Huronda, Huntsville, ON Off-Season (Sep-May) - Toronto, ON • Minimum 3+ years camp experience in senior staff positions, preferably Camp or Assistant Camp Director • Knowledge of type 1 diabetes or willing to undertake education as required • Preference given to those who currently are/have studied in a child development or related field • Standard First Aid and CPR “C” or willing to obtain • NLS, CUI certification an asset • F-Class License (or equivalent) or willing to obtain • Instructor certifications an asset • Small Water Drinking System certification or willing to obtain • High Five Certification from Parks and Recreation Ontario or willing to obtain • Must provide a copy of a cleared criminal reference check and vulnerable sector screening

Camp Huronda Owned and operated by the Canadian Diabetes Association, Camp Huronda lies on a beautifully wooded peninsula on Lake Waseosa near Huntsville. This superb 110-acre setting offers permanent camp facilities for children living with type 1 diabetes through carefully planned programs that provide children with a summer of adventure, fun, learning and health care.

General Function Within the framework of the national and provincial camp strategy and policies of the Residential Camp Guidelines of the Canadian Diabetes Association the Camp Director, Camp Huronda embraces and supports Association procedures and is responsible for planning, implementing and operating a rich and healthy camping experience for campers and staff.

Responsibilities 1. Understands and promotes the mission of the Canadian Diabetes Association through own active learning about the Association’s goals, objectives, services, programs and organization structure at all levels.

2. Lives on-site at Camp Huronda during the months of June, July and August. During the month of June support the Facility Manager to ensure all facilities are prepared for the staff/camper us and support the Registrar to ensure all camper registration is processed. During July and August participates fully as the Camp Director to create and maintain a camper-focused culture through engaging in all camp

activities and supervisory requirements. In the off-season works out of the National Office between September and May as needed.

3. Both in-season and off-season works closely and supports all duties of the Camp Huronda team, including but not limited to Health Team, Medical/Nursing/Dietetic Coordinators, Facilities Coordinator, Registrar, Administrative staff. Liaise with Health Team coordinators year round.

4. Ensure all programs are camper-focused and operating at or above industry standard. Investigate new program opportunities and ensure that all program decisions maintain a camper-focused culture.

5. Ensure all communication collateral is updated and provides appropriate information. This includes but is not limited to the Parent/Guardian Handbook, Registration Packages, Camp pamphlet and website.

6. Plan and implement year-round program activities (climbing, skating, etc.) to increase camper and guardian engagement.

7. Work with the Manager, Ontario Camps to create a confidential filing system to ensure proper historical and current documentation of camper and staff participation at Huronda is properly maintained. This includes past and current hire packages, evaluations and qualifications of staff are on file and ensure camper information is complete and on-file for the medical and program team when needed.

8. Work with the Registrar and other administrative staff to ensures all campers and staff attending Camp Huronda are entered into Onyx (electronic database) before the season begins. In addition, works with the National Office to create a proper alumni database and alumni entry into Onyx.

9. Responsible for all aspects of staff hiring and management including reviewing/updating job descriptions, posting and advertising available positions, scheduling and facilitating interviews, ensuring all paperwork is completed prior to staff arrival at camp.

10. With the support of the Manager, Ontario Camps plans and implements staff orientation/training week to ensure that staff have the skills necessary to effectively run a rich camper-focused program. This includes updating a staff manual and ensuring that it is an effective tool for staff.

11. Ensure that all staff have appropriate certifications for their positions. Researches potential training opportunities for self and staff, including, but not limited to OCA Skills Weekend, High Five with Parks & Recreation Ontario, Standard First Aid, etc.

12. With the support of the Manager, Ontario Camps ensure all purchasing is completed in accordance with the Canadian Diabetes Association policies and within established budget. This includes stocking the Shore Store with Canadian Diabetes Association and Camp Huronda merchandise. Researches possible on-line store applications for Camp Huronda.

13. Ensures adequate programming materials and safety requirements for equipment is met prior to camp opening. Orders and obtains any additional programming or equipment supplies that are required in a timely nature.

14. Other duties as assigned by the Manager, Ontario Camps.
