FALL FASHION FEATURING

FEDORA HATS RESCUING A RELIC THAT INSPIRES FASHIONS FUTURE

A fedora is a hat with a soft brim and indented crown. It is typically creased lengthwise down the crown and "pinched" near the front on both sides. Fedoras can also be creased with teardrop crowns, diamond crowns, center dents, and others, and the positioning of pinches can vary. The typical crown height is 4.5 inches (11 cm). The fedora hat's brim is usually wide, approximately 2.5 inches (6.4 cm) wide, but may be wider, can be left "raw edged" (left as cut), finished with a sewn overwelt or underwelt, or bound with a trim-ribbon. "Stitched edge" means that there is one, two or more rows of stitching radiating inward toward the crown. The "Cavanagh Edge" is a welted edge with invisible stitching to hold it in place and is a very expensive treatment that can no longer be performed by modern hat factories. Fedora hats are not to be confused with small brimmed hats called trilbies. The term fedora was in use as early as 1891. Its popularity soared, and eventually it eclipsed the similar-looking homburg. Fedoras can be made of wool, cashmere, rabbit or beaver felt. These felts can also be blended to each other with mink or chinchilla and rarely with vicuĂąa, guanaco, cervelt, or mohair of straw, cotton, waxed or oiled cotton, hemp, linen or leather.

The Oakland Raiders's Move To Las Vegas Could Give Them the NFL's Most Innovative Stadium The team's new venue designed by Manica Architecture will provide spectacular views of the Strip and cost nearly $2 billion

The 32 NFL owners voted on whether they approved relocating the Oakland Raiders to Las Vegas. The move was green-lit by 31 of the 32 owners, as the head of the Miami Dolphins organization was the only to cast a vote in the negative. Raiders owner Mark Davis required at least 24 of 32 votes to push his proposed deal through. The move will continue a recent trend of team relocations, as the St. Louis Rams and San Diego Chargers both finalized their moves to Los Angeles within the past 15 months. For Las Vegas, however, the excitement will not only mean the city's first major-league sports franchise but also another form of entertainment for tourists and locals alike. Indeed, Las Vegas will become synonymous with various forms of entertainment, ranging from 24 -hour casinos, nightclubs, and fine dining to tailgating and hosting major sporting events (which could one day include World Cup soccer games). The new stadium has a projected cost of nearly $1.9 billion (with $750 million in public funding). With such funding, the team will have the financial backing to play in one of the most innovative venues in the league. The company tasked with designing the arena is Manica Architecture, a Kansas City–based firm that specializes in the design of international sports venues. Manica Architecture has been a part of numerous projects around the world, including San Francisco's Chase Center (the soon-to-be home of the Golden State Warriors), the Wembley National Stadium in London, and the renovation of the Nou Camp stadium, home to the soccer team FC Barcelona. The architects' plan includes a sleek, modern athletic venue featuring a horseshoe-shaped seating arrangement and an opening on one end to offer impressive views of Las Vegas’s fabled Strip. The domed structure will include 65,000 seats but will be built to expand and accommodate up to 72,000 for larger events, such as the Super Bowl. The arena is currently slated to be completed in advance of the 2020 NFL season.

CIGARS

For The Cigar Aficionado

Cigar Care and Storage BY JR BLENDING ROOM

The Basics Let’s dive right in and go over how to care for cigars. The ideal storage condition for a cigar is approximately 70% humidity at 68 degrees Fahrenheit. Air at different temperatures will hold completely different amounts of moisture. Warm air can hold a tremendous amount of moisture. If your cigars are stored in a warm place, you will have to continuously add water to the humidifier. The result will be very spongy cigars. Cold air holds almost no moisture. Air with 70% humidity will be dry at freezing temperatures. Relative humidity is defined as the percentage of the maximum amount of water that air can hold at a given temperature without condensation. As a general rule, when the air temperature is reduced from 68 degrees by one degree, the humidity should be increased by 1%, and vice versa. Therefore, if your cigars were stored at 58 degrees Fahrenheit, the humidity should be kept around 80%. Dry cigars can be moisturized, but will never be quite as good as they were from the factory. To remoisturize, a cigar, put it into a properly humidified environment for a very long period of time (6 months or more). The cigar will gradually absorb the surrounding humidity. Overhumidified cigars that have become damp should be thrown away. The binder and filler of a cigar make up about 90% of the total mass of the cigar. Therefore, the binder and filler will also absorb over 90% of any excess humidity. When this happens, the body of the cigar swells, forcing the wrapper to expand. When you attempt to dry out a damp cigar the following will happen: 1. The body shrinks rapidly. 2.The wrapper will be loose and wrinkled. 3.The wrapper will peel when you attempt to smoke the cigar. The Humidor 1.The best way to store cigars is with humidors. The purpose of a humidor is to recreate the mild, humid climate of the Caribbean, where the cigars are made. Every humidor contains some kind of humidifying element. It is important that distilled water be used with this element because tap water causes mold to form and contains minerals that can destroy the effectiveness of some humidifiers. Over a period of time, the molded device will alter the flavor of the cigars. It is always a good idea to check the humidor’s moisture level at least once a week and make sure that no patches of mold have started to form on the cigars. If mold has started to form, the offending cigars should be removed and the humidor should be cleaned with a dry cloth and aired out. A light-gray dusting of bloom on the wrapper is permissible because that is a sign that the cigar is properly aging.

The Luxury Car Review

The Jaguar XJ The Next Generation Jaguar XJ expected to Be Launched Around 2019 Will be Something That Is Visually Stunning On The Outside, Luxurious Inside BY IAN CALLUM __________________

Jaguar Land Rover is believed to have hotly debated the new XJ as it evaluated how to develop a flagship design for the next generation of cars while boosting sales in a class dominated by the Mercedes-Benz S-Class. Discussions are understood to have swung as widely as dropping it from the line-up and developing a large SUV, to sticking with an ultra-conventional saloon. The Jaguar I-Pace has been revealed, take a look here Callum said the next generation could have a higher roofline to improve the rear packaging, but other changes could be more “nuanced”. The decision to stick with a saloon is said to be motivated by it still being recognised in most markets as a key differentiator of premium brands. “The XJ today isn’t a traditional limousine,” said Callum. “It balances style, performance and comfort in a unique way. It’s a car with many admirers and it’s a car that establishes Jaguar’s credentials in quite a cool way. “We could address head room, but other changes could be more detailed. We have a cool car. We don’t want to lose that.” XJ to live on as super-luxury hybrid After months of debate Jaguar bosses have finally pushed the button on reinventing the XJ as an “indulgent, super-luxury” car. The new XJ is likely to feature mixed-materials body construction, a new-generation V6 hybrid drivetrain, an entirely fresh look for the interior and much more of the technology needed for connected and autonomous driving. It’s expected to arrive in showrooms in spring 2019 and a concept version could be seen in 2018, the 50th anniversary of the original XJ. The image above shows Autocar's expectations for the model. According to inside sources, the debate on how to replace Jaguar’s flagship model was wide-ranging. Some in the company thought the XJ could be remade as a kind of super-SUV similar in concept to the Range Rover Sport. Others proposed an end for the XJ, believing the investment in a large saloon to take on the Mercedes-Benz S-Class might not make a sound business case. Sales of today’s XJ have risen steadily to 20,000 units per year, but that’s only a fraction of S-Class sales. It was also suggested that the latest XF had undermined the case for the new XJ to be a conventional big saloon. Today’s XF, which is based on the latest D7a aluminium architecture, is marginally more spacious than the current seven-year-old XJ.
