Ramadan Ramadan is a deeply spiritual period, but also a time of celebration as families use the occasion to visit loved ones. Expected to begin on August 1st, the most noticeable element for visitors is fasting during daylight hours. While non-Muslims are not expected to fast, they are forbidden to eat, drink or smoke in public from sunrise to sunset and failure to abide by these rules can result in fines. See page 14 for more information on Ramadan. Visit the Ramadan and Eid 2011 festival for family friendly consumer goods and gifts, Arabic food, toys and games as well as traditional song and dance. Where: Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, Halls 1 to 5. When: August 9th to 20th, 7pm to 3am. Contact: www.adnec.ae
