Taller Marmo When Riccardo Audisio and Yago Goicoechea first met while studying in Milan they could not predict they would drop out of university, become masters of womenswear, move to Dubai and launch a fashion label, but that is exactly what they did. The entrepreneurial pair – an Italian and Argentinian respectively – imbue their different tastes but with a signature style that is both nostalgic and fresh, all brought together under one name, Taller Marmo. “We blend timeless sophistication, contemporary imagery and classic lines with a touch of avant garde. We are constantly inspired by strong women and cult movements from Peggy Guggenheim and her art collection to Dalida (an Italian singer and actress) and Game of Thrones,” says Goicoechea. Named after the Spanish word for workshop (‘taller’) and the Italian for marble (‘marmo’), Taller Marmo essentially sums up a commitment to handmade luxury. Building a bridge between European elegance and Middle Eastern
charm is the label’s ultimate aim. Taking this vision literally, all ready-to-wear pieces are designed in the UAE and then crafted by artisans in Italy. “Once our research is done, we complete around a thousand sketches. Then we choose the best ideas before flying to Italy to produce them. There we select the fabrics and details and our pattern-maker works on them. Finally, we hand them over to the production laboratory where they sew our pieces before final designs are sent back to Dubai,” Goicoechea explains. At Fashion Forward, the pair will premiere their autumn/winter 2014 collection, focusing on evening wear and Taller Marmo’s signature sleek silhouette. As for the runway presentation, the designers have collaborated with photographers and artists from different fields to ensure that the show really impresses on the night.
