GSM or GPRS?

The first thing to decide when considering the purchase of a wireless battery powered security system is the communication system that best suits your application. There are two choices, GSM & GPRS. GSM based systems GSM based systems are the most basic. Customers are required to supply their own mobile phone SIM card for GSM based systems. These can either be Pay-as-you-go or monthly or yearly contract SIMs, although contract SIMs are the most reliable as they never run out of credit.

GSM System

when activated, system alerts up to 10 mobile phones

GSM based systems are designed for users who only require activation alerts and status messages to be sent to between 1 - 10 mobile phones. These are ideal where system owners are based on or close to the site being protected and are happy that a simple text message is sufficient to alert them to an activation.

Perfect for users who only require activation alerts by text message

The GSM systems are programmed via a PC and a programming cable. Software is supplied on CD or by downloading from our website.

Suitable for multiple systems on multiple sites

GPRS based systems GPRS systems are more complex and flexible than GSM systems and allow them to be monitored via an Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC). These systems are supplied with a dedicated GPRS SIM card. GPRS systems are suitable for clients using multiple systems on multiple sites or those needing high levels of flexibility to cope with large numbers of people requiring access to sites at different times. Programing and monitoring of GPRS systems GPRS based systems provide a two stage monitoring feature: 1st Stage Each user is provided secure access to our online portal, where each system is displayed (see image 1 below). Each system can be viewed, programmed, arm and disarmed via the online portal in real time from anywhere in the world. This is sufficient for users with their own control room providing it is manned 24/7.

GPRS System

2nd Stage For users without their own control room, ARC monitoring is available via one of the UKs largest accredited monitoring stations. Even if ARC monitoring is used, users can still monitor the systems in real time and make programming and arm/ disarm changes via the secure online portal feature mentioned above.

GPRS - Monitored Security System RDAS+

The RDAS+ system represents a step change in the standard and functionality of wireless battery powered alarm systems and exceeds the specifications laid down in the 2012 SSAIB Code of Practice for Enhanced Temporary Alarm Systems (ETAS). The RDAS+ system is ideal for property management companies and guarding companies who have a large number of sites to secure and require the ability to provide access to site to contractors etc. on a regular basis whilst gathering detailed information relating to such access for management reporting etc.

Key specification: Dual SIM operation. Remote 24/7 arming and disarming on demand. Constant 24/7 GPRS connection to remote secure sever. Meets and exceeds SSAIB ‘Enhanced TAS’ standards. Police SBD (Secured by Design) approved. Range 1km + (Open field) utilising inbuilt aerial. Range up to 3km (Open field) with tower mounted high gain aerial. Operating frequency 434MHz offering enhanced building fabric penetration. Separate key-pad and control unit. Allows control unit to be placed securely and out of sight in a safe place. Fully ARC monitored via IP. Bold Gemini compatible. 1 year+ battery life. Control system tamper & orientation protection. RF device tamper & orientation protection.

As with all our GPRS systems, the RDAS+ is programmed and controlled in real time via secure access to our online portal (See image below). This allows real time arming / disarming, programming and reporting. All RDAS+ systems can also be fully monitored by an accredited ARC.

On board and remote secured event log. Keypad doubles as engineers ‘walk test’ unit. Multiple outputs portal for switching auxiliary equipment (i.e. CCTV). Real time online log via secure portal. Automatic daily timed arm/disarm function. Connect up to 64 wireless devices from our detector range. Multiple keypads for multiple entrances/exits using a single control system. Up to 64 access codes, iButtons or combination of both per system.

GPRS - Monitored Security System RDAS+

24/7 GPRS connection to secure remote server Unlike any other wireless, battery powered security system on the market, the RDAS+ provides users with the ability to remotely arm and disarm the system in real time. This is especially useful if there are contractors etc. that irregularly require access but to whom you do not want to issue codes or iButtons. Due to the unique 24/7 connection to our remote server, the RDAS+ can be used in conjunction with a suitable access control system to lock and unlock the premises remotely. No more Keys, No more codes, No more problems! Dual SIM GPRS communication Uniquely the RDAS+ GPRS communicator has been designed to accommodate two separate SIM cards from different networks. The system not only appraises which carrier provides the best local signal strength but just as importantly which carrier offers the least congested and reliable data connection, with the unit automatically switching from one to the other as required. A single SIM can be used reducing the network charges but reliability is the key to any security product so we recommend twin SIMs are installed especially in high traffic or remote areas. The local devices operate on the 434MHz frequency with a 418MHz option available for the USA. All communications are encrypted and the Open field range is in excess of 1km utilising in-built aerials. The frequency of operation was chosen as it offers much better penetration of solid non metallic building fabrics than similar systems operating on 868MHz. Key-pad doubles up as the engineer walk test unit The RDAS+ system has been designed in two parts, the control unit and a separate key-pad/iButton reader. Separating the two has several benefits. The control unit is the most expensive element of the system and as such is ideally located out of sight and out of danger of vandalism etc., and not by the entry exit door. As the keypad is separate, the control system can be located anywhere on the site or in the building, although ideally in a central location to the wirelessly linked devices to allow maximum coverage.

The keypad which also doubles as the engineer walk test unit can then be installed at the site entrance. (Note. Multiple keypads can be used on each system) Tamper protection In line with the SSAIB code of practice for enhanced temporary alarm systems, the RDAS+ includes full antitamper and orientation detection within the control system, keypad and all RF devices. Two choices of controller enclosures 1. High level version with in-built security sounder for external wall or pole mounting. 2. IP65 crush proof Peli case with carrying handle. L270 x W156 x D82mm. (Note: A wireless siren is available as an accessory). Internally to both enclosures is the main controller/ communication unit and battery pack. A single battery pack provides 1 year+ battery life under standard operating conditions. Also internally to the enclosure are the aerials for both the interconnected security devices and the GPRS communicator. When using the high level enclosure provision has been made for cabled high gain external aerials to be installed with cable entry via glands as well as the ability to cable the device for mains power. Event log As an enhanced TAS unit (See SSAIB code of practice) the system has a time and date stamped event log that can be accessed on site by an engineer as well as a duplicate log held on our secure server accessible by password by both installation companies as well as their customers anywhere in the world via the internet. Remote configuration and control Once installed the system is fully remotely configurable, allowing devices, codes and iButtons to be added or removed at will. Not only can the system be remotely armed and disarmed on demand, additional interfaced devices such as locks, lighting and CCTV can be also be controlled via the system.

Keypad/iButton unit The enclosure is manufactured in high strength ABS and is designed for internal or external installation being sealed to IP65. The keypad is of metal alloy construction. The unit doubles up as an engineering tool allowing the installer to walk around the site with the unit providing information such as signal strength and battery life of all the associated detection and warning devices. As per the control unit the internal batteries provide in excess of 1 years use. The enclosure also includes an iButton reader for those not wishing to use codes. Placing an authorised iButton to the reader illuminates the display and then the function is selected using the keypad. The LCD is a high brightness display and back lights when a code or iButton is applied. The keypad is of metal alloy construction with buttons that illuminate when any button is pressed. Once illuminated by pressing any button the user code is entered, this can be anywhere from 4 to 6 digits in length. A universal code can be programmed that allows the arming of the system only and all codes/iButtons can be set to either disarm or arm the system or both. Each system will allow up to 64 access codes, iButtons or combination of both to be programmed in to it at any one time. Each system will allow the wireless connection of up to 64 devices. A wireless device can be for example a keypad/ iButton reader, PIRs, smoke detectors, etc. The unit also has a switched output that operates when an authorised iButton or code is applied, this output can be used for access control operating an electronic lock release through a suitable interface for example. GPRS - Monitored Security System RDAS

The standard RDAS GPRS system is less sophisticated than the RDAS+ system. Whilst the RDAS+ is a Bi-directional system, meaning it communicates with all accessories continuously, the standard RDAS systems are uni-directional and can be monitored in real time via our secure online web portal, however, changes such as adding or removing detectors or codes and remote arming and disarming are only actioned within the RDAS control system itself whenever the systems sends a heartbeat. Heartbeats can be programmed according to requirements from once every 24 hours to once per hour. As with all our GPRS systems, the RDAS GPRS can be monitored by a fully accredited ARC or by an in-house control room. Two choices of controller enclosures 1. High level version: Switch gear enclosure with in-built security sounder - For external wall or pole mounting. 2. Standard version: IP65 crush proof Peli case with carrying handle. L270 x W156 x D82mm. (Note: A wireless siren is available as an accessory). Internally to both enclosures is the main controller/ communication unit and battery packs. Two battery packs provides 6 months+ operation under standard operating conditions in the high level version and four battery packs provide 1 year+ operation under standard conditions in the standard version. Also internally to the enclosure are the aerials for both the interconnected security devices and the GPRS communicator. When using the switch gear enclosure provision has been made for cabled high gain external aerials to be installed with cable entry via glands as well as the ability to cable the device for mains power.

Key specification: Connect up to 64 radio linked devices. 300 meter range (Line of sight) from detectors to control system. Multiple zones (inc. alarm, fire, flood, temperature & notification). Wireless iButton high security key-switch. 1 Year control unit and detector battery life (Standard operation). Email alerts to multiple addresses. GPRS and detector signal strength monitoring. GPRS - Monitored Stand Alone PIR’s VX GPRS & HX GPRS

Not all applications require a large number of PIRs and this is where the VX GPRS and HX GPRS PIRs offer a unique solution.

One detector not quite enough? The technology incorporated within both the VX GPRS and HX GPRS PIRs allows these units to act as a master to up to two slave units, for those sites that are too big for one detector but do not warrant a full blown system such as RDAS or RDAS+.

The VX and HX GPRS external Standalone PIRs are based on the VX402 and HX40 PIRs from the worlds most reliable PIR manufacturer Optex. Both of these devices are well known for their stability in an external environment and their immunity to false activations.

Whilst the VX GPRS and HX GPRS have a GPRS communication system built in, the slave units simply communicate alarm activations and status messages to the master unit via RF signal (maximum range to master unit 10 meters). This means that only the master unit requires the expensive GPRS communications module and SIM card. This results in the slave units being considerably cheaper than the master.

Our highly skilled engineers then retrofit a complete GPRS communication system in to the existing housing to create a highly reliable rapidly deployable cost effective security device for small applications. Essentially it is a complete security system built in to one detector.

Stand-alone systems can be monitored in real time via our secure online web portal, however, changes such as adding or removing detectors or codes and remote arming and disarming are only actioned within the unit itself whenever it sends a heartbeat. Heartbeats can be programmed according to requirements from once every 24 hours to once per hour. Additionally these units as with the RDAS and RDAS+ systems have built-in timer functionality allowing automatic arm/ disarm 7 days a week. As with all our GPRS systems, theses stand-alone units can be monitored by a fully accredited ARC or by an in-house control room.

Anti-Loitering System Mosquito Mk4

Arguably the most controversial but definetly the most effective loitering deterrent ever invented and it is 100% legal! Whatever you have heard about the Mosquito device being banned, it is completely untrue, infact not only do public sector bodies such as police and county councils use the Mosquito in the UK, Europe and around the world, the UK Home office even support the use of the device when used sensibly. If you, your business, park, playground , car park, stairwells or even your own home suffer from regular hassle from groups of unruly or badly behaved teens, the Mosquito will move them away quickly, effectively and in complete safety without any need for confrontation.

Key specification: 24v DC powered. 4 volume settings providing a maximum effective range of up to 40 meters. Switchable by various triggers. High frequency mode (Under 25’s). Low frequency ‘All age’ mode (Audible to people of any age). Appx. 100mm x 100mm x 100mm inconspicuous design. Vandal resistant cast zinc/aluminum housing. There are no health risks associated with using or being exposed to the Mosquito. The device is highly effective, however, it does not gain its effectiveness from being extremely loud, rather it works by being extremely annoying. So much so that within minutes of the teens noticing the sound, they just have to leave the area. The Mosquito can change your life or business for the better and without causing any disturbance to people over the age of around 25. Unless the device is set to “All age”. The Mosquito can be activated simply by flicking the switch on the power socket, or via a range of trigger devices including PIR motion detectors, timers and remote controls. How our online portal works The web portal allows all of our GPRS enabled systems to be accessed and controlled world wide from any internet connected computer. The Portal is fully username and password protected with the data held on an encrypted server at a tier 3 facility.

The web portal provides a host of screens and functions that are laid out in an easy to use format. The most basic of these functions are the system log reports:

Live view

Config view

Updated by the second, this displays messages coming in from an individual system.

Systems are fully configurable via the portal using the config page. On this page, all the aspects of the system(s) can be remotely programmed including, site name, entry/exit times, RF codes of connected detectors, sounders, keypads, zone names and zone types that include amongst others alarm, fire, panic and flood. 64 individual devices being a mixture of detectors, keypads and sounders can be programmed for use on each system.

7 Days

A log of all the messages received during the last 7 days from a specific system.

1 Month

All messages received in the last month from a specific system.

6 Months

All messages received in the last 6 months from a specific system.

In addition, there is also a page that displays in real time all the messages received from all of a clients systems. This is of particular use if a client operates their own control room as it allows all the systems to be monitored without the need of any additional equipment via an internet connected computer.

Fully Configurable

Real Time Messages

Timer view

Email view

Also on the config page is a separate box that allows the system to be automatically armed/disarmed at specific times for each day of the week. 20 separate times can be entered.

Up to 14 different event types including arm, disarm, alarm etc., can be used to automatically send emails to any one of 20 email addresses (regardless of whether a monitoring station is used or not). This is a useful feature that allows both the installer/operator and the end user (if required) to be notified of specific events. A great way of checking up on comings and goings of staff and contractors especially with the advent of smartphones that can receive email while on the move.
