Video contest

The XVIII General Assembly of the Compostela Group of Universities will take place the 20-22 September 2012 at the University of Oulu (Finland) and will include the hands-on workshop ‘Embracing of Modernization Agenda in Higher Education’. The results of this workshop will be forwarded to the European Commission in order to contribute to the improvement of Higher Education in Europe. As it is required by the statutes of the CGU, the Rector of the University of Santiago (USC), Juan Casares Long, proposed at Executive Committee meeting held the 26-27 January in Brussels, a candidate for the position of Executive Secretary of the network, Professor Isabel Lirola Delgado, ViceDean of the USC’s Faculty of Law since 2007. Mrs. Lirola will be Acting Executive Secretary until the ratification by the General Assembly of the Group (Oulu, Finland, 20-22 Sept). +info

Collaboration agreements

The CGU agreed on a series of collaboration lines with the Fundación Galicia Europa (FGE) and with the Fundación Cidade da Cultura de Galicia. These agreements were reached during a meeting with the director of the Fundación Galicia Europa (FGE), Jesús Gamallo, and a meeting with the Manager Director of the Fundación Cidade da Cultura de Galicia, Beatriz González Loroño. Both meetings took place at Santiago de Compostela. These collaboration initiatives will be officially presented at the General Assembly. +info

The Compostela Group of Universities announced through its President, Maurits van Rooijen, during a press conference held at the University of Santiago de Compostela, the decision, made jointly with the Galician Government, of giving the XVI International Prize Compostela Group-Xunta de Galicia to the College of Europe as a recognition for its promotion of the European values in Higher Education.

Along with the President of the Group, the General Secretary of the Xunta de Galicia for Culture and member of the Jury, Anxo Lorenzo, and the Rector of the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC) and member of the Group’s Executive Committee, Juan Casares Long, also took part at the press conference. The award ceremony will take place 21st September during the XVIII General Assembly of the Group at Oulu (Finland).+ info

Stella 2012

The Compostela Group of Universities will announce this month the name of the winner of its First International Video Contest that will beawarded with a trip to Oulu in the framework of the GA. In this successful pilot edition, students from CGU member institutions presented short recordings promoting both their institution and the Group. The winner will be presented by the President of the CGU and other authorities of the University of Oulu. +info

The STELLA Programme for Administrative Staff Mobility 2012 is providing an opportunity for a total of 18 participants from university members within the Compostela Group to enjoy an international work placement experience for one or two weeks. The number participating in this year’s call shows the success of the programme. Specifically, the CGU received a total of 81 offers (services/units open to receive administrative staff) from 40 American and European universities and a total of 47 applications. In this edition, the programme is open to CGU mutual member networks: CONAHEC and FAUBAI. +info

Summer schools and more info Universidad Pontificia Comillas This university will add a summer program in Kenya to its offering of INSIDE PROGRAMS in New York, Washington, Beijing and Shanghai. This program will be hold from July 14 to August 4 and it is intended for university students in their finals years of studies, post-graduate students or professionals who are interested in the fields of Development, NGO´s, International Relations, International Economics, Sociology, History, among others. +info

Universidad de León

This university presents a summer course on cultural issues, focused on two European countries, Spain and France, that will take place between 8-24th July. It includes a joint academic program designed by 3 partners: Sun Yat-sen University (China), University of Leon (Spain) and University of Savoie in Annecy (France). +info

Università degli Studi di Cagliari

This university organizes Italian Language and Culture Courses that will take place during July and September 2012. The courses are designed by the University of Cagliari’s Language Centre and ISMOKA to immerse participants in the Italian language and culture and improve their language skills helped by our Italian teachers. +info

Adam Mickiewicz University

This university organizes and holds the School of Polish Language and Culture that will take place between 6-24th of August. The School’s curriculum covers classes which include: Polish language course, lectures, workshops and language consultancies for beginners. The didactic program is accompanied with a cultural one. +info

Fundación Galicia Europa

The Fundación Galicia Europa (FGE) brought up to date its guide of internships and jobs prospects in the EU and international organizations. It is conceived as a support for young people looking for professional or formative opportunities once they have finished their degree. The publication includes the main grants offered by the European and International institutions and by Fundación Galicia Europa itself. +info

Universidade de Aveiro

UA is organizing Research Day 2012 that will be hold next June 13, 2012. Research Day is a one-day event celebrating the university’s research achievements, as well as providing an opportunity for the interdisciplinary sharing of good practices in research, and a vehicle for promoting effective collaboration among UA faculty and researchers, who have an opportunity to learn about the research being

conducted across all departments and research units at the campus. +info

Universidade do Porto

Following the Celebrations of the Erasmus Programme 25th Anniversary, officially announced by the European Commission and happening this year all over Europe, the Universidade do Porto organized several activities, between the 21st and 24th may, to evoke the participation of the University in the Programme. +info

University of Marburg

In July and August the University of Marburg, Germany will host its 14th International Summer University that will be focused on ‘Peace and Conflict; Near and Middle East: Political, Cultural, Economic Aspects of the Arab Spring - A European Perspective’. The program is comprised of seminars in German and English that touch on the main theme from the perspective of the political sciences, sociology, social psychology, and cultural and regional sciences. There will be also an extracurricular program with excursions, cultural events, lectures and social events. +info
