JOB POSTING POSITION: PROGRAM COORDINATOR CONTRACT: PART TIME – MATERNITY LEAVE PROGRAM: YOUNG CITY GROWERS – YOUTH INTERNSHIP PROGRAM The African Community Wellness Initiative is seeking to fill a part-time Program Coordinator position for our Young City Growers –Youth Internship Program.

RESPONSIBILITIES             

Develop, maintain and carry out training modules and lesson plans for YCG Youth Internship Program participants. Coordinate and supervise weekly training sessions with participating youth. Provide career mentorship to program participants. Provide referral services to program participants as needed. Supervise the planning and running of the youth-led Young City Growers- CSA Market Garden and Greenhouse. Provide interns with on-site supervision during the growing season, work alongside interns to cultivate land, plant, harvest and sell produce. Maintain contact with YCG CSA members. Provide site maintenance as needed, including maintenance and operation of farming equipment, irrigation system and greenhouse Work alongside YCG – Youth Internship Program participants in planning and carrying out community events. Prepare media releases and coordinate and participate in media interviews as needed. Maintain communication with project partners and ACWI board of directors and be available to provide project updates and presentations as needed. Maintain communication with other team members and volunteers including the YCG- Advocacy Project Volunteer Coordinator, YCG Youth Mentors, Research Students, etc. Report to and maintain weekly communication with Project Manager.

University degree or equivalent experience and training. Experience in a social service and/or educational setting. Experience working with youth. Experience working in the food and/or agriculture sector. Knowledge of local food systems and understanding of local food policies. Familiarity with the food justice movement. Experience working in the multi-cultural setting is an asset.


Strong communications skills, ability and experience working in outdoor setting and performing manual labor. Strong group facilitation skills.

Contract Period: April 1, 2014 to Dec 31, 2014 Paid Hours: 15.00 hrs/ week Volunteer Hours: 5.00hrs/week Pay: $20.00/hour
