SOCIAL CAFÉS LAUNCHED JOIN IN THE year. A juice bar has been created at both venues and nutrition consultants are available to give free healthy meal plan and nutritional advice to gym members.

Eastwood Park has also introduced themed pre-theatre menus ahead of selected shows and launched its first lunchtime theatre season in March, with classic bitesize plays and a light lunch provided.

Innovative and forward-thinking social enterprise organisation, Greenhouse Community, has launched two new cafés. The cafés have been established at Eastwood Park Leisure in Giffnock and at Barrhead Foundry, where food and snacks are being served alongside theatre and leisure facilities. The Greenhouse Community CIC was established by a couple from Newton Mearns, Steven and Mandy Jacobs, to help people with additional support needs to develop skills and experience. The two new cafés are in addition to three already established. Steven said: “We want to improve the opportunities presented to individuals with additional needs and in a controlled environment.

“Trainees can learn the necessary employability skills to gain future long-term employment and we welcome people from all ages and backgrounds. “We have received a very warm welcome at Eastwood Park and Barrhead Foundry, from theatre goers, fitness fans and library visitors, and we look forward to developing more initiatives with our staff in the coming months.” Eastwood Park and Barrhead Foundry are welcoming positive changes since bringing Greenhouse Community on board earlier this

EASTERINGLE A special Easter time service takes place at a Newton Mearns church this month. On April 17 at 6.30pm. Broom Church hosts an Easteringle Service, when young people tell the Easter Story in a colourful and imaginative way. Rev James Boag said: “Easteringle is a not a word you will perhaps recognise as it is a word that we have made up. It has become an anticipated annual event. “The Easteringle is for everyone.” After the service everyone is invited to join in a supper. The local Co-op stores also provide Easter Eggs for the children. Further information, tel: 0141 639 3528 or email: office@ broomchurch.org.uk
