he Sherman Chamber of Commerce has served our community for more than one hundred years. The Sherman Chamber is the largest professional business organization in Grayson County. We provide strength to our business members through advocacy, networking, leadership training, marketing and much more. Serving as the “Voice of Business” we support those issues important to our community. The Sherman Chamber plays a key role in our community by providing many key benefits, programs, events, involvement and more. Leadership Sherman is the leading program that provides leadership in the area. Each year the Leadership Sherman program connects participants with local leaders. The Sherman Young Professional program brings future leaders together for networking, social events, mentoring opportunities and community projects. We’re happy to provide events that benefit our teachers, highlight our local businesses, and bring our elected officials together for updates. The City of Sherman is growing fast with new manufacturing, shopping, restaurants, entertainment, and home construction providing available housing for our growing community. Sherman is well known for the arts. Music, theater, murals, paintings and much more provide opportunities to spend time in Sherman. The Sherman Museum hosts exhibits from early years in our city. The Sherman Tourism Department features amazing bands entertaining at our June and July outdoor concerts. Sherman is one of the friendliest cities you will find. t is truly an honor to serve as the chair of the Board of Directors of the Sherman Chamber of Commerce for 2022. I was born and raised in Sherman, and have always known the love we have for one another as neighbors. Now, as a small business owner in my hometown, I see that the Chamber does the same thing for all of our amazing local businesses. As members of the Chamber, we all come together to support one another and cheer on the growth, prosperity, and success of our fellow businesses. he last few years have been among the most exciting in the storied history of our wonderful community. In both the public and private sectors, we’ve seen investments that are among the most important improvements Sherman has ever seen. And with the pace of growth still quickening, things show no signs of slowing down. As we worked to help keep our citizens safe and our economy strong during 2021, our city made a

tremendous amount of progress. From the newly-completed Sherman High School, to the massive Highway 75 GAP Project, to a new, $15 million police headquarters – in every corner of the city, Sherman is working to invest in infrastructure to allow the private sector to thrive. It’s that kind of innovative thinking at City Hall that helps to keep our taxes among the lowest in the state while maintaining a business-friendly environment that drives our economic success. And that environment has led, in turn, to the unprecedented economic expansion we’ve experience this last year, capped off by Texas Instruments’ stunning decision to build one of the nation’s largest semiconductor plants right here in Sherman. Even on top of our thriving economy, we have worked to keep our qualityof-life top notch. Our annual Hot Summer Nights concerts have become the largest free music series in the entire state of Texas, drawing tens of

thousands of people each June and July. And our many festivals and parades continue to see record attendance, year after year. There’s no doubt that people have begun to notice just what a hidden gem Sherman is. The city once again set a record for new housing last year, and that trend is still accelerating. With exciting developments like Bel Air, Heritage Ranch and Shepherd’s Place on the horizon, there’s little doubt that Sherman will welcome thousands of new friends and neighbors in the next few years. Put it all together and you have a small picture of our growing, vibrant community. Because although Sherman is just an hour from downtown Dallas, we might as well be a world away. And as our city continues its recent trend of rapid growth, we plan to make sure that our quality-of-life remains peerless in the great state of Texas.

10 YEARS

WITH EDDIE! A lthough this year marks his 10th anniversary as President/CEO, Eddie Brown has been a fixture at the Sherman Chamber since 2009 when he began serving as a board member, legislative affairs committee chair, and helped with the Sherman ISD Master Cat Program. Since he began as president, membership has grown at a rate of about 50 members per year, programs such as Leadership Sherman have blossomed and he helped establish Plug in Texoma, the largest networking event in the county. Eddie led the Chamber through uncharted territory with COVID and through it all, the Chamber, and Sherman as a whole, is poised to grow in 2022 and beyond.

What has been your favorite memory at the Chamber? Traveling with our Leadership Sherman group to the Capitol in Austin each year. Many in our group have not visited the capital before making this a wonderful experience. What is your favorite Chamber event? The Sherman Chamber Annual Awards event is a favorite event. This event allows us to recognize our many businesses and individuals for the work in our community. What do you feel is the most fulfilling part of your job? The best part of my work is watching our young professionals grow into leaders in our community.

What are you most looking forward to at the Chamber in 2022? I am looking forward to our continued growth with membership, innovative programs and working together with a talented staff and board. What do you like to do in your spare time? I like to spend my spare time with family and friends, traveling, sports and having fun.

Big Expansion

In November 2021, Texas Instruments announced that Sherman has been selected to be the home of a new production plant that would effectively shift its Sherman operations toward new components. “Sherman provides some unique advantages such as a competitive business environment, access to a highly trained technical workforce and an existing supplier base,” Kyle Flessner, TI senior vice president of technology and manufacturing, said in a press release. The plant would be built in four phase with construction of the more than $6 billion first phase expected to begin some time in 2022. At full production, the site is expected to create an additional 3,200 jobs in addition to other symbiotic developments and positions.

Businesses, is to create an environment of education and support to increase the number and size of Sherman women and minority-owned businesses. In September 2021, a committee of current Sherman business leaders was formed to establish the program, evaluate current needs, and develop action items to meet those needs. Their first action item was to create a database of the current Sherman WOMO businesses to learn more about how many are presently in operation, the types of businesses and to collect contact information to share resources. The next action item is to create an online presence for the WOMO database and business resources.

SEDCO offers incentive packages to Type A eligible companies based on capital investment. The SEDCO team is happy to assist all businesses in making connections and by providing resources and community information; however, funding can only be awarded to Type A eligible companies, those that create and retain primary jobs.

Programs RISE RiseInSherman.com RISE: Raising Innovative Sherman Entrepreneurs seeks to identify, develop, and incentivize young, local, entrepreneurial companies demonstrating high potential to expand operations and positively impact the Sherman economy. OCCUPATIONAL PROGRAMS SEDCO actively partners with the Workforce Solutions Texoma, Denison Development Alliance, Grayson College, area Independent School Districts, and manufacturers in an effort to develop a talent pipeline of middle-skills workers for Advanced Manufacturing occupations. These efforts include: • Advanced Manufacturing Program (AMP) is a unique dual credit initiative within the Texoma area that allows students to complete college courses starting as early as the 10th grade. Students learn skills unique to Advanced Manufacturing and gain real-world, hands-on training through industry driven curriculum. Upon completion of the program, students can go directly into the workforce while continuing their education at Grayson College or at a four-year institution. • Industrial Maintenance Technician (IMT) Program provides high school seniors a $4,000 scholarship, covering books and tuition for one school year, allowing them to earn a Certificate in Industrial Maintenance Technology Level 1 from Grayson College. HOME SWEET HOME he projected growth in Sherman that’s been talked about for years is here! Homes are being built in Sherman left and right to keep up with people wanting to move north. Sherman City Council Member Josh Stevenson said “five years ago, around 20 homes were being built a year. And now every meeting, we’re approving literally hundreds of new houses and apartment complexes.”

Bel Air Village

One of the most exciting projects in the works is the “billion-dollar” development Bel Air Village, which will be located on 280 acres east of Highway 75 and south of FM 1417 and will include a mix of single-family and multi-family homes for 8,000 future residents, along with other amenities like restaurants, event venues and something everyone can use in the Texas heat: a lagoon. “With the lagoon feature, it’s going to be like nothing else in our area,

certainly in the county, maybe within four or five counties, so we’re really excited about that feature,” said Mayor David Plyler. “The good news is that it’s open to the public, so you don’t have to live here to use the amenities.”

Heritage Ranch

Another exciting project for the area is the master-planned Heritage Ranch, a 439 acre multi-use community. There will be a mix of commercial and residential opportunities complimented with areas set aside as parks, lakes and open space amenities. The first phase of the development will include 170 acres of residential development along the eastern side of the property. At full build out, city officials estimated that the phase could support about 650 residential lots. “Heritage Ranch would focus on a really important piece of Sherman real estate, with tons of frontage on both Highway 82 and FM 1417,” Sherman

Community and Support Services Manager Nate Strauch said. “This kind of mixeduse development is an increasingly popular way to build walkable communities within a given city, and adding an entertainment component to the mix has already proven highly successful in other Sherman and Sherman-adjacent projects.”

Multi-Family Complexes

There are also several apartment complexes currently being built or in the approval process with the city. “This is badly needed in the city of Sherman. As you know, our apartment occupancy rates are up over 90 percent, so this is a solution that we can get behind,” said Mayor David Plyler. One upcoming projects include Aspire at Sherman Apartments, located at the 1100 block of Gallagher Drive. The site was previously a medical complex which had been in disuse for nearly a decade. The effort to revitalize the site represented a partnership between the city and developers. The city utilized funding from the Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone that encompasses the site to fund the asbestos remediation at the site. The new complex will feature three-story buildings with a mixture of efficiency, one and two-bedroom units with a total of 248 units. In addition, Sherman Lofts, a fourstory apartment complex with a live-work component and coworking space, is headed to Spring Valley Road following City Council approval in October 2021.

Sherman High School

Sherman ISD opened the new Sherman High School on Monday, January 11, 2021. The state-of-the-art campus is 542,782 square feet on 98.362 acres. It accommodates 2,600 students and features a multi-purpose activity center with an indoor practice facility and weight room, four gyms, athletic fields, and a courtyard that serves as a safe, vibrant outdoor learning space for students and faculty. The high school serves as the flagship campus for Sherman ISD. This year, Sherman ISD has two middle schools: Piner Middle School and Sherman Middle School. Each campus serves kids in grades 6-8 and provides increased capacity for our growing enrollment. PROACTIVE CARE he last few years have put the Sherman area healthcare industry to the test. As the regional healthcare hub for the greater Texoma area, our facilities rose to the challenge. However, everyday the area is growing and health care must grow to meet the needs of the population. There are two proactive initatives that will be affecting the healthcare industry in Sherman in the next year: Grayson College healthcare training as well as a new area hospital.

Healthcare Training

A Healthcare Consortium including Beacon Hill, Carrus Specialty Hospital, UHS Texoma Medical Center and Wilson N. Jones Regional Medical Center has partnered with Grayson College to provide job training using a $2,086,825 Skills Development Fund grant from the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC.) The grant will benefit workers in the Texoma area.

“Skills grants deliver customized training solutions that help Texas employers and workers succeed in the marketplace,” said TWC Chairman Andres Alcantar. “This investment builds not only employee skills, but the capabilities of our community colleges to the benefit of employers and the community.” This grant will be used to provide customized training to 1,242 new and incumbent workers for industry-related topics with focused instruction on nuclear medical technology, physical therapy, pharmacy technology, respiratory, nursing, emergency room care, geriatric and pediatric medicines. Trainees will include medical laboratory technicians, nuclear medical technicians, radiological technicians, therapists and nurses. Upon completion of training, the workers will receive an average wage of $27.11.

New Area Hospital

approved a series of pre-development agreements between the city, Crossroads Hospital Development LLC, Ivy Hotel Group and CFP Sherman, for the creation of a new $150 million, 80-bed acute care hospital. The city will provide an initial loan of up to $737,500 to the project. Sherman expects that when complete, the new hospital will generate more than $1.1 million annually in property tax and utility revenues to the city. “Having a medical facility located on the south side of town is going to be important for the future of the City of Sherman,” said city spokesperson Nate Strauch. “The medical facilities and ER... we really think that this hospital facility will provide that anchor that will really make sure that Sherman Crossroads becomes not only known locally but regionally as a place for commerce, but also a place for medical services as well.”

he mission of the Sherman Cultural District (SCD) is to advocate for the arts and artists, improve the built environment, promote arts-based tourism and economic growth, and create opportunity for inclusive cultural and civic engagement with art in all forms. The SCD represents both a geographic area, encompassing cultural sites, restaurants, museums and theaters, and a partnership, comprising the many arts and cultural groups that call Sherman home. The Cultural District Advisory Council is hosted by Austin College in cooperation with the City of Sherman.

ince the Little Theatre Movement in the 1920’s, the Sherman Community Players (SCP) has presented fine theatrical productions to North Texas and Southern Oklahoma region. Incorporated in 1950 as a professionally directed, non-profit 501(c)(3), community theatre, SCP has continued to garner state-wide attention for its quality season productions, children’s theatre and educational programs. The mission of SCP is the production of quality theatrical entertainment and education in the performing arts. Mainstage is the Sherman Community Players program designed specifically for adults. Mainstage produces five productions a season which includes musicals, dramas and comedies. Auditions for these productions are open to anyone with an interest in theatre.

New Community Mural

In December 2021, the city dedicated a community mural commemorating the 40th anniversary of Sherman Arts Fest. Citizens of Sherman as well as art students from Sherman High School and Austin College all had a hand in bringing the city’s newest piece of public art to life. “People came and were able to put their own personal touch on the mural throughout the community. So I think it’s a great thing to have here. it’s colorful, it’s fun,” said Mayor David Plyler.

SHERMAN SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA he Sherman Symphony Orchestra (SSO) is a vital part of the community and has been dedicated to making music accessible to everyone since it was founded in 1966 under Cecil Isaac. The SSO creates a collective civic identity by presenting live concerts and serving as a primary resource for music education. In 1992, Maestro Daniel Dominick became the music director. This season the Sherman Symphony Orchestra performed its 20th annual Children’s Educational Concerts. These concerts now reach over 2,000 local fifth-graders each year. The Sherman Symphony Orchestra offers free student tickets to all of its Classical Series Concerts, making live classical music accessible and affordable to students of all ages. Educational programming continues to expand, with new programs

launching in the 2021-22 season. The SSO’s more than 80 musicians perform seven concerts per year. KiddKey Auditorium is home to the Classical Series Concerts, and Austin College hosts the annual Christmas Pops concerts. The SSO has expanded its reach even further with periodic concerts in Ardmore, OK and Greenville, TX. Since the 2020-2021 season, the SSO released free online concerts each month.

LAKE TEXOMA

ome visit Lake Texoma, a nature filled cakewalk of water playgrounds and tons of activities. The lake is located on the Red River with the confluence of the Washita River joining it on the border south central Oklahoma and north central Texas. It covers 74,686 acres with 550 miles of shoreline between the Oklahoma and Cooke and Grayson Counties in Texas. While you can fish, hike and hunt at wildlife management areas, Hagerman and Tishomingo are day use only with campgrounds nearby. Fobb Bottom allows camping, but game wardens and staff keep a close eye on these treasured wildlife sanctuaries. Native animals abound! Several species of endangered animals are protected in this region like alligator snapping turtles, alligators, and several species of bats and birds. Common wildlife spotted around the area include armadillos, bats, beavers,

coyotes, deer, foxes, fox squirrels, porcupines, possums, rabbits, raccoons, snakes, turkeys, and wild boars. Uncommon sightings include black bears, bobcats, and mountain lions. Go birding in November watching as thousands of snow geese blanket Hagerman NWR. Other winter birds to look for are eagles, hawks, Northern harriers, owls, and red shoulder hawks. In the spring, find migratory bluebirds, hawks, hummingbirds, pelicans, and warblers. Come summertime, great blue herons nest in treetops and blue-winged and green-winged teals arrive to make their winter homes. Fall welcomes monarch butterflies, raptors, and white pelicans.

THE SPLASH FAMILY AQUATIC CENTER he Splash is this area’s favorite wet spot. This seasonal aquatic facility usually provides activities for people of all ages, however, this season we have faced challenges with hiring staff which effects what we can offer. At this time, we have not made a decision on swim lessons, parties or private pool rentals. The Splash is equipped with two 2-story water slides, a drop slide, a diving board, a 1,200 foot current channel, and a tot zone complete with slide, tumble buckets, and spray features. The Splash is a family destination for all Texoma friends.

Aquafit

Excising in water is one of the healthiest forms of exercise that anyone can participate in. Water resistance is good for sore or artificial joints, because it does not involve heavy impact. Our aquatic fitness classes are taught by a professionally trained instructor whose goal is to help you burn calories, get in shape, and have fun doing it. We offer 2 different times for classes to ensure that you do not have an excuse to get into the water and get aquafit!

Learn to Swim

The Sherman Parks and Recreation and Splash Family Aquatic Center will provide swim lessons for kids between the age of 4-10. Participants can register for a time slot based on their age. The Parks and Recreation Department will place kids in appropriate groups based on registration questions answered by the parents at registration. All Learn to Swim classes will be Monday-Thursday in the morning. If a class is canceled because of weather or other unforeseen circumstance, a make up class will be held at the same time on Friday of the same week.

Father & Daughter Unicorn Ball

Girls will always remember their first date, especially when it’s with Dad! The Father Daughter Dance will be a magical night filled with rainbow wishes and unicorn kisses, dancing, laughter, and a lifetime of memories. We invite young ladies of all ages, along with their dad or other adult male figure in their lives. Admission includes a night of fun with a DJ spinning great tunes, a ticket for door prize drawings, beverages and sweet treats, photos, and lots of fun and smiles.

Kid’s Fishing Derby

Here fishy, fishy! We’re getting ready and stocking Pebblebrook Pond for our Annual Kid’s Fishing Derby! Bundle up and come enjoy some fishing with the entire family. A hot dog lunch will be provided. This event is FREE, but day of registration is required in order to get your goody bag and have a chance at prizes! All ages 16 and under are welcome and participants must be accompanied by an adult/guardian during the event.

Hot Summer Nights

What began in 1995 as a simple idea to use music to bring the community together has grown into one of the premiere events for Sherman. Every Thursday night during June and July, thousands of local residents & visitors bring their lawn chairs, picnic blankets and coolers to Hot Summer Nights. Music at this outdoor venue provides a relaxing, casual atmosphere, and best of all -- this family-friendly event is free. Every Thursday in June and July (Except July 2nd) 7:30pm

Lights on the Lake

Attracting over 5000 attendees, Lights on the Lake is Sherman’s Independence Day celebration, presented by Landmark Bank. Bring your family to Pecan Grove Park West for incredible music, bounce houses and activities for the kids, food vendors and a huge fireworks show!

Autumn and Arts Fest

Formerly known as Sherman Arts Fest, Autumn and Arts Fest is Sherman’s annual fall festival- complete with food and craft vendors, music, karate and dance demonstrations, art show and much more! This year, and going forward, Autumn and Arts Fest will be hosted on the municipal grounds and Mulberry Street.

Mother/ Son Out of the World Dance

The relationship that a mother has with her son is something special. We are inviting all mothers or adult female mother figures to bring their sharpest dressed little man to the dance. The theme this year will be Out of this World. Participants are welcome to dress to match the theme, but it is not required. Participants will also have an opportunity to take pictures in a photo booth and enjoy refreshments!

A Downtown Christmas

A tradition that goes back as far as anyone can remember, the Christmas Parade takes place in downtown the first weekend of December. Festivities surrounding the parade continue to grow each year, now including a Tree Lighting, pictures with Santa, and vendors selling food, drinks, Christmas crafts and more.

Annual Snowflake Festival

Gather around the Grayson County Courthouse Square to kick off the Christmas Season! You can shop for unique gifts for family and friends at the booths set up around the Square. There will be plenty of food trucks and treat vendors to keep you full and warm before our BIG parade starts at 6:00pm! There are FREE pictures with Santa by the big Christmas Tree, just bring your own camera/cell phone to capture those cuties. There will be free live music from 3:30-5:30pm, a bounce house for the kiddos and a photo booth with pictures printed on-site!
