EXHIBITION DELTA AWARDS: 50 YEARS WITH DESIGN (1960 – 2010)
From the outset, the Delta Awards aimed to support and highlight excellence in the design and produc=on of industrial objects in Spain. Over 150 original pieces are on view, accompanied by images that suggest the close rela=onship between design and the historical, poli=cal and cultural moment in which it develops. SANTA CATERINA MARKET WITH BENEDETTA TAGLIABUE
Visit to Santa Caterina’s market, lunch at Les Cuines de Santa Caterina restaurant and visit to Benede[a Tagliabue’s private house. Under the direc=on of Benede[a Tagliabue the Miralles-‐Tagliabue-‐EMBT studio works with architectural projects, open spaces, urbanism, rehabilita=on and exhibi=ons. She was in charge of the Spanish Pavilion for Expo Shanghai 2010 and the rehabilita=on of Santa Caterina, an emblema=c market in the heart of Barcelona.

The interiorist Elia Felices showed you interes=ng wholesale shops in the Gothic quarter, the secret places where she ﬁnds the ﬁnest objects for decora=ve collages like Mil Milagros restaurant.
TORRE DIAGONAL ZEROZERO WITH ENRIC MASSIP
Visit to the Telefónica tower, a project by EMBA. Located at the origin (number Zero) of Diagonal, Barcelona’s main avenue, it is nowadays the most recent architecture icon in the city.
Visit to Ke[al’s showroom and its art founda=on Alorda-‐Derksen. Ke[al’s raison d’être is the crea=on of =meless furniture, func=onal and expressive, which represents a contemporary culture and provides solu=ons to the emerging needs of modern life, based on a blend of crea=vity, customiza=on, innova=on and modern produc=on. Ke[al develops products speciﬁcally for each project. Ke[al has received the Na=onal Design Prize 2010 from the Ministry of Science and Innova=on of Spain for “their exemplary use of design in their business strategy and for their commitment to the environment and sustainability, and for innova=ng their products and industrial processes”. Also, their Ke[al Bob has recently received the Best Armchair Design Award 2011, granted by the American design magazine Wallpaper.
ALORDA – DERKSEN FOUNDATION
In Barcelona, Fundación Alorda-‐Derksen thus becomes an exponent and agora of the most decisive modern-‐day art, where interna=onal ar=sts like Murakami, Kapoor and Hirst can be found together with Spanish ones such as Barceló, Plensa or Uslé, to name just a few. Thanks to the contribu=ons of Ke[al, the founda=on is able to show interna=onal art in the very heart of the city. While you visited the gallery, you also have the chance to see the prototypes of the Bob set, designed by Hella Jongerius and a recent Wallpaper Design Award winner.
WINE TASTING AT MONVÍNIC WITH ALFREDO ARRIBAS, ARCHITECT
MonvÍnic is a pioneer space, created by Sergi Ferrer-‐Salat, which opens its doors to present an unrivalled selec=on of wines from all over the world. Alfredo Arribas, architect and owner of Portal de Monsant Winery, accompanied us to taste his most appreciated wines.
Visit and breakfast at the emblema=c Hotel Palace, the place where Dalí used to stay when he came to Barcelona, with the crea=ve director Jesús Garabieta. Gastón y Daniela has been in charge of the tex=le renova=on recently done at the hotel, introducing a new wave of redesigned classic tex=les. You also visited Gastón y Daniela’s showroom. Gastón y Daniela has become the reference brand in the Spanish high end tex=le market. Besides being a fabric editor and an upholstery furniture designer, they develop luxury hotels and take an important part in the renova=on of European Heritage. They are present in more than 60 countries worldwide.
Visit to Arturo Alvarez exhibi=on at Cubiñà, an emblema=c design showroom placed in a modernist building of the architect Domènech i Muntaner. Arturo Alvarez, dedicated to the design and produc=on of all types of decora=ve ligh=ng decora=ve products, has started in the recent years to re-‐construct common materials, removing them from their usual surroundings and then looking for a new use. During your visit, they showed you a lamp designed by Marpn Azúa for the City of Culture of Galicia, which uses a special material made of silicone and discovered by Arturo Álvarez himself, that allows the light to pass through and disseminate in a mys=cal way.
MARISCAL EXHIBITION AT LA PEDRERA
In this exhibi=on, guided by Javier Mariscal himself, you were immersed in the mul=disciplinary universe of the Mariscal”factory”, conveying you into the heart of the crea=ve process and giving you insights, through your own experience, into the vital pulse that drives the work of Javier Mariscal and his team.
ANTONI AROLA STUDIO
Visit to the studio-‐atelier-‐house of Antoni Arola, interior and industrial designer, recognized by his ligh=ng designs. He won the Na=onal Design Prize in 2003. He is one of the usual designers of Santa&Cole.
LO SIENTO STUDIO
Borja Marpnez, an industrial designer working as a graphic one, presented is last innova=on to Cool Hun=ng, the 4D typography .The studio Lo siento, which in spanish means simultaneously I am sorry and I feel it , received the Laus Award during last’s year edi=on. Among others they have worked for the renowed restaurant El Bulli and company EMI.
Visit to Marset’s showroom with the designer Christophe Mathieu, the interior designer Fernando Salas and the director of Proyecto Contract Magazine, Marcel Benedito. The three of them were invited to give an honest opinion of Marset as a ligh=ng company. You also met Richard William Bright through a videoconference in which he talked about the new projects he as doing for Marset. The visit ended with a dinner to taste paella (rice with seafood).
Private breakfast at Roomservice design gallery with a few crea=ves and trendse[ers like Jordi Labanda, Saeta Studio, Mucho designers, Hiroshi Tsunoda or Antxón Gómez. The space was exhibi=ng Lladró’s lastest crea=on: Metropolis. The brand, dedicated ini=ally to the produc=on of vases and jugs, is currently the world leader in the concep=on and elabora=on of porcelain art ﬁgurines. Since 2006 the renowned designer Jaime Hayón is the Ar=sitc Advisor of Lladró.
PALO ALTO Palo Alto is a founda=on dedicated to the promo=on of cultural and ar=s=c ac=vi=es. It is located in an old factory and it is a common space for pres=gious studios such as Estudio Mariscal, Fernando Salas o Laiguana. They also share a restaurant, La Can=na, where you met Salas Studio team and Tono Ferrando (co-‐director of Mariscal last movie, Chico&Rita). La Can=na, where you met the team of Salas Studio and Tono Ferrando (co-‐director of Mariscal’s latest movie, “Chico&Rita”). At La Can=na you never know whis going to have lunch next to you.
IAAC – INSTITUTE FOR ADVANCED ARCHITECTURE OF CATALONIA IaaC is the main interna=onal centre for research, educa=on, inves=ga=on and development oriented toward architecture in Catalonia. Its director is Vicente Guallart.
The historical music hall of Barcelona, El Molino, auer a complex process of restora=on conducted by Bopbaa (Architecture) and Fernando Salas (Interior Design), re-‐opened its doors recently. Guided visit with Iñaki Baquero.
WAREHOUSE OF ANTXON GÓMEZ Antxon Gómez, set designer, excep=onally opened the doors of his private collec=on of atrezzo. Some of the items you found have been used in Almodóvar’s movies. He has received the (Spanish Film Academy) Goya Award for the best Designer Set.
41º COCKTAILCLUB WITH ALBERT ADRIÀ You were invited to the openning of the new cocktail bar managed by Ferran Adrià, the world-‐renowned chef, and his brother Albert. Apart from amazing snacks, they were just launching a newly designed organic dinner service.
ICHO with Hiroshi tsonuda Dinner at a Japanese-‐Mediterranean restaurant with the designer Hiroshi Tsunoda from Tokio based in Barcelona.
Visit to Santa&Cole headquarters, an old school with a design laboratory and a church converted in showroom in it. You met four genera=ons of designers: Miguel Milà, Toni Arola, La Granja and Causas Externas, and ﬁnished the experience with a tradi=onal catalan brunch. Santa & Cole’s business is based on seeking and choosing, from among a large number of objects, those with a great history which precedes them or with a humble surprise to be discovered. In the last 25 years the brand has grown. Nowadays it edits four types of products: indoor ligh=ng and furniture products, books, urban ligh=ng and furniture elements, and trees for urban reforesta=on.
Sur=do it is a plavorm for young Spanish product designers. At the Crea=vity Gallery Otrascosas de Villarrosàs you did Speed Da=ng interviews with: Diego Ramos, Nadadora, Compeixalaigua, La Mamba, Isern Serra, Mermelada, Marc Ligos and Xavier Mañosa.
