Constituting a carrier-grade element management solution, ACI-E provides full ITU-T FCAPS (Fault, Configuration, Accounting, Performance and Security) management functionality. 100% operability of network elements from central site is guaranteed. Accurate and fast network configuration ACI-E lays the foundation for efficient usage of network resources supporting all tasks involved in commissioning and provisioning processes of network. The network is graphically represented topdown from network-wide view to details of individual network elements. The equipment view of a network element shows the chassis with the plug-in modules indicating the status of the equipment by symbols and colors. Well structured configuration windows and menus allow for accurate and fast access to all parameters of selected network elements. Network elements can be placed in a network map, either into the top level map or an embedded subnetwork. A map can be enriched with a background image visualizing an area or location e.g. by a country map, town map or station photo. Auto discovery of network elements and upload of their configuration data and status assures accurate network commissioning and configuration. ACI-E database is always synchronized with the network elements. When a broken connection to a network element gets back, an automatic consistency check is performed updating the database. Effective port configuration through profiling as well as backup and restore functionality accelerate configuration of network elements while avoiding operation errors. With a comprehensive SW management function the load of all network elements can be checked and updated. SW download can be performed manually or time-scheduled on a selected set of network elements and/or modules at once. Inventory data, such as serial numbers and software versions, can be retrieved for individual network elements as well as the whole network. The network element configuration can be saved in a timescheduled manner and restored on user request.

network quality is supported by display, logging and graphical representation of performance data of the network elements. Alarms are indicated in real-time in all related views and lists. Icons of the affected network resources get the color according highest alarm severity. The alarm list contains the active alarms whereas the alarm log keeps the alarm history. List and log can be filtered according various criteria e.g. network resources, time & date or alarm type. In a Notepad user activity to an alarm can be recorded. For problems on network resources trouble tickets can be created. For each alarm, maintenance information is online available on ACI-E screen. Alarm forwarding via northbound interfaces TMF CORBA interface and SNMP is supported as well as external signaling of alarms (audio signal, E-mail etc.). For monitoring of network quality, performance measurements can be activated in the network elements and thresholds for performance alarms can be set. Performance records of the network elements can be retrieved, displayed and logged. Processing of performance data by external tool is supported by manual or time-scheduled export of performance data logs to ASCII file. For selected performance counters graphical statistics are provided. Advanced testing and interface monitoring capabilities allows carrying out line tests and loopback tests in the network elements.

Flexible and scalable for network growth ACI-E is designed as a cost-effective management system that fits into a wide variety of management and network scenarios. ACI-E is a scalable client/server system that can smoothly grow with the network. An ACI-E system consists of one CrossDomain Manager as central instance and a set of Element Managers for the different network element types. The manager processes can run on one server machine but can also be distributed over several machines. Local as well as remote clients are possible. Thus the system can be well adapted to each customer network and operational demands.

Increased server reliability by RAID (HD redundancy), doubled power supply and UPS is available. For high capacity demands multi-processor Sun servers are supported. High availability is achieved by a working/ standby server configuration called Geo Redundancy. Due to standard HW and network interfaces that’s a cost-efficient solution guaranteeing 99.99% availability. There’s no distance restriction between working and standby servers, thus also disaster recovery demands are met. For on-site network maintenance there’s a LCT (Local Craft Terminal) based on ACI-E. The LCT is a notebook providing the same user interface and management functionality as the central ACI-E.

Smooth integration through standardized open interfaces Standardized open interfaces serve for best integration into the OSS/BSS environment of a customer. The standardized TMF CORBA interface acc. TMF 513/608/814 supports service provisioning, alarming and retrieval of equipment data. The interface enables OSS/BSS systems to configure subscriber services and to monitor the network. TMF CORBA is today the leading standard for TMN integration. Evolving standards like MTOSI will be adopted in future releases. ACI-E provides also a SNMP-based northbound interface for fault management applications. Alarms from the network are forwarded via the SNMP interface. For non-real-time processing ACI-E provides various data exports to ASCII file, e.g. export of alarm logs, event log, and performance logs or inventory data. The file exports can be time-scheduled.
