company as a whole, this is a welcome development. We are a traditional firm conducting business in a traditional manner. Whilst much is quoted and written electronically these days, we find that many cases presented do not fit the generic system descriptions. The Commercial Express website does give the opportunity to make referral, but in many cases these are re-referred on two or three occasions, as the underwriters come back to us asking that we re-enter information and then resubmit. This is all very well, but there is no substitution for being able to discuss a risk with the underwriter. One can always tell in a conversation whether the other person has fully understood the point being made, and if not the details can be clarified immediately. The underwriters can also convey to us any concerns they may have about the risk, in turn giving us a better understanding of your underwriting philosophy.
