The CCC Interior Architecture Seniors participated in a tour of the historic Motor Row district, hosted by Bob Joynt of The Chicago Architectural Center. Motor Row exemplifies the rich history of Chicago’s emphasis on creativity and ingenuity. Bob Joynt gave a remarkable tour, explaining the deep history of Motor Row while also enveloping the group with his storytelling. Many of the buildings in this district remain untouched, ready to be filled with new life. Excitingly, some buildings have active construction taking place with hopes of redeveloping these buildings to their former glory.
The tour was filled with not only information on the buildings themselves but also the companies that filled these spaces. Bob Joynt painted a vivid picture of what life in this area would have looked like in the thriving years of 1905-1936, and the years beyond. As you can imagine, the area has taken many diferent shapes and forms in the past 100 years. This tour was eye-opening to the reality of the historic district’s current state and provided students with an opportunity to dream into the future, with an understanding and respect for the past.
Hosted annually in the historic Motor Row District, the Chicago Auto Show stands as a monumental event to explore the latest innovations and trends in automotive technology. Motor Row’s architectural significance and historical connection to the automobile industry provides a fitting backdrop for this illustrious event. The Chicago Auto Show launched in 1901 to publicly showcase the automotive industry’s latest innovations and models, promoting an interest in automotive technology and design. Historically, the Chicago Auto Show reflects the dynamic nature of the automotive industry and its pivotal role in shaping modern transportation and technological advancements. The Chicago Auto Show is an incredible opportunity to learn about and appreciate the innovation and forward-thinking present in the automobile industry.
