“The idea of younger people like Ryan interested in flying and getting into these vintage planes to fly them — it’s great,” Parks said. “It’s getting to be a lost art of tailwheel, open cockpit, biplane flying.”

Tailwheel means an airplane with the third wheel at the rear; flying an open cockpit biplane is like driving a convertible car but in the air.

pilots or mechanics, and quite a few of them have been female too as well as males,” Parks said.

The museum is typically open on some Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with a caveat to call first at 303-668-8044.

“I always tell people to call ahead of time so we can confirm that we’re going to be here and/or if the weather is bad,” Parks said.
