And a Time to Dance “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens... a time to weep and a time to laugh” Ecclesiastes 3:1, 4

It takes Kim longer now to get ready for bed. The drug the doctor has been using to treat her cancer is such a powerful drug that not only is it dealing with her cancer but it is also wreaking havoc on her body. She has been so weak she is worn out for just taking a shower. Or walking from our bedroom to the living room. Or getting ready for bed. So it is with such relief when we finally get to bed. And there in the darkness after we turned out the lights we would hold each other and talk. There were a couple of times we just held each other and cried because the journey has been, quite frankly, been hard. Where our prayers did not seem to go past the ceiling. There were times we just talked about the day. We would get tickled and get to laughing at all the new antics Greyson is learning. How that little man's vocabulary has just exploded but some of the definitions of terms he is learning have not yet quite caught up with the words. Or how just in the last seven days that we did not get to see Seth and Aiden they seem to grown at least half an inch each. The excitement of all our girls—Rachel, Cami and Lindsay expecting. Josh and Lindsay naming their baby girl Adrie Malaya (Malaya is a Filipino word which means “freedom” or “free”). Continued on page 2

And a Time to Dance (continued from page 1)

In the darkness we both knew we were smiling as we talk about the phone calls, texts, food, prayers, encouragement, the love poured out to us by our church family. I know it made Kim cry with joy when I told her that three of my pastor friends decided to fast and pray for three days for the Lord to spare her from the harsh side effects of her treatment. Cards of encouragement from the different churches, prayer groups, individuals are a constant reminder of God's love. There in the darkness tears and laughter interchangeably bubble out of us not because we have lost our minds but because we know as difficult our situation is and however harrowing the emotional rollercoaster ride may be, cancer has not changed anything about our Lord.       

Cancer has not diminished God's love for us. Cancer can never eat away at the security of who we are in Christ. Cancer is under the sovereign rule of our wise and good King. There is nothing that cancer can do that will be greater than God's grace. Cancer will never prevent us from experiencing the mercies of our Lord that are new every morning. Cancer will be defeated as will all our illnesses and everything that is fallen in our world. If anything cancer has become a portal, a gateway through which Kim and I are experiencing things about our God that we have never experienced before. His fuller and richer love, the ultimate value and beauty of simple prayers, familiar scriptures we memorized in Navigator 2:7 taking on richer and fuller dimensions.

Kim has an appointment with a new cancer doctor this week. We are excited about a set of fresh eyes to look at her situation. We are also trying to get her an appointment at M.D. Anderson in Houston. We will do what we know to do to take care of her. Every step of the way trusting our gracious Father. I have had to help Kim get up from the recliner. I would put my hands under her arms and pull her up until she gets up on her feet. Then she would rest her head on my chest and I would hold her like we are dancing. Dancing to the silent but beautiful music of God's grace and love. And there I know as I hold my beautiful bride that I am the luckiest guy in the world! “A time to weep and a time to laugh... and a time to dance!” (Ecclesiastes 3:4). We can cry, we can laugh, we can dance, not because we are great but because our God is great. His Word is true, His promise is sure, His faithfulness is everlasting, His love is beyond understanding. So whatever this world throws at us we hang to our Lord for dear life: “I will be your God throughout your lifetime—until your hair is white with age. I made you, and I will care for you. I will carry you along and save you” (Isaiah 46:4). May you find God faithful and gracious whatever you are facing in life. “To the only wise God be glory forever through Jesus Christ! Amen” (Romans 16:27). Lakan
