Letter from the Editor
Wow. We're actually at the end of 2021, which is amazing. I think that most of us did not know what to expect after last year. As small business owners, we learned that no model is set in stone. The most popular word and strategy this year have to be the word pivot. It was obvious that things had to change for the betterment of our businesses. For some, this meant eliminating services, while others decided to simply change approaches. The businesses that survived this year and their owners have a story to tell. I'm counting on them to share and motivate us all in 2022. Positivity, in many cases, is half the battle. This too is a lesson that we've adopted in 2021. Let's continue to build, embrace change, and learn from what life throws in our way. That's the structure of a good business. Happy Holidays! ARE

Small Business Considerations for 2022 What Things to Think About? By Athelda R. Ensley, Collages LLC Small businesses generally take their marching orders from what larger companies and corporations will do. This means adopting outlooks and procedures that are applicable and appropriate for operating effectively, no matter the size of the business. To prepare for business in 2022, it’s a good idea to learn what larger entities are preparing for and investing in for the next year. According to Forbes.com states that the economic outlook will have a lot to do with supply chain, as well as, labor issues. Although the forecast for world economies is expected to grow 3.9% in 2022, there is a lot of competition globally. China on its own is set to have economic growth of approximately 5.5%.
Global Connections You may ask, how does this affect my small business? Well, we’re more closely connected now than ever before. Supply chain and labor issue problems are being experienced on virtually every continent. This is not a concern for cities and states alone, but everyone, everywhere, who is operating a small business. Along with various operational considerations, small business owners must also think about coming trends. These may have impacts, whether positive or negative on how your business plans unfold next year.
Expand Your Horizons The year 2020 may have taught small business owners one important thing. That was to prepare to pivot and reposition their operations. Some even found that they had more to offer their customers and clients than they thought. Utilizing technology during this time, as well as, in the future plays a big part is expanding horizons. It doesn’t matter whether it is virtual presentations or client meetings. It has become necessary to change how we communicate and conduct sales. Squareup.com points out the importance of this in 2022. The key here is to take stock of the professional services that your business is able to offer new customers.
Identify Untapped Potential Instead of promoting these in packages, it is possible to expand your reach another way. Individual services or skills sets that were previously untapped might open the door to expansion. Some business owners may find that altering approaches and plans are paramount. It is crucial to find out who wants the services that you offer and how to reach them. This process requires taking a look at individual services as marketing points. Looking at these individually and capturing opportunities for them, is possible despite whether other services/products sell. Remember to use technology and innovative approaches to push your marketing next year and to drive your business goals.

Buying It Right By Tuesday Underdue Realtor, eXp Realty
You have been pre-approved, and now you are in search of your dream home, but what type of home should you purchase? Where should this new home be located? Hopefully, the information below can help lead you in the right direction and get you started on your way to homeownership!
Condominium, Townhouse, or Single-Family Home Have you dreamed of a single-family house with a yard and a picket fence? If so, then a detached single-family home may be best for you. Just remember, a home with a yard oftentimes requires yard work and exterior maintenance. Therefore, be honest with yourself as to whether or not you will have the time to take on these tasks. If you desire the feel of a single-family home, but do not want the increased maintenance perhaps a townhouse is more appropriate. Townhouses tend to have smaller yards and often times the exteriors such as the roof and lawn are maintained by the Homeowners Association (HOA). Townhouses vary in square footage and some have attached garages. Have no desire for any maintenance, but want amenities and simply wish to own your dwelling? Then a condominium may be in line with what you need. The HOA fees may be more expensive however, the HOA is usually responsible for interior and exterior building maintenance. The
dwelling or unit owner is responsible for items within the condominium itself. In larger cities, your monthly HOA fee may include utilities, 24-hour security, private gyms, etc.
Location, Location, Location Choose a location that suits your lifestyle. Purchasing a home on one side of town although it may be less expensive may not be as wise if you constantly drive across town to meet friends, work, or attend events. That added commute cost and time may or may not be worth it.
It Is Your Purchase I have witnessed prospective home-buyers seeking homes with characteristics that are not in line with what they truly desire. Remember that ultimately you will be making the mortgage payment and most likely not your friends and family. Often, individuals who should downsize purchase homes that are larger than what they truly desire because someone in their social circle informed them that bigger was better. Other times married couples hoping to start a family purchase less space not taking into consideration all of the baby gear. Regardless of the reason that you are making your purchase make sure that the purchase is 100% yours and that you are satisfied. If you love it those around you will learn to like it. After all, they probably are not paying for it.
The Best Travel Insights from 2021… By Karen Nelson “Specific Post-COVID Travel Tips: Upgrade airline tickets to Premium Economy (or higher) for more legroom and overall space between yourself and others. Upgrade cruise cabin to Balcony for immediate access to fresh air and for a private area to relax and enjoy your surroundings. Bring disinfectant wipes onboard airplanes and trains to sanitize tray tables, armrests, and seat buckles as needed. Bring disinfectant wipes into hotel rooms to sanitize handles, phones, faucets, and tv remotes as needed. Bring hand sanitizer for use after touching door handles, railings, elevator buttons, and other items in public areas. There are many regions safely welcoming travelers at this time, while others are still working on their health protocols. With just a bit more planning and preparation, most travelers will find they can comfortably and safely enjoy vacations once again. When you are ready to begin making plans for your next amazing adventure, I highly suggest you identify an accredited travel advisor, specializing in the vacation you have chosen, to assist you. Now more than ever, you want to have an expert travel advisor assist with your reservation bookings. Not a hobbyist or part-time travel planner, but an accredited and certified travel agent, who has access to the latest updates, protocols, and restrictions. While Google searches, online forums, and even mass booking engines can provide some information and try to answer your questions, an accredited travel advisor has access to additional resources to help ensure you are prepared for your vacation and will act as your advocate. “The world is once again welcoming those looking to enjoy wonderful adventures!! In the past two months, I have enjoyed all-inclusive resorts in Mexico and the Caribbean, explored the wonders of Greece on land in Athens and Delphi, and by sea sailing to the amazing beauty of the Greece Isles, including Mykonos, Santorini, Rhodes, Patmos, Crete, and Milos. For those who are ready to start making their travel dreams come true … I am here to help!! Post-COVID there are many new protocols and some restrictions in place. These vary by country/region and are constantly changing. It is ultimately the traveler’s responsibility to understand what is required, and the assistance and guidance of an accredited travel advisor can help you navigate through the process. Most airlines are once again booking at capacity, onboard food/beverage service is limited, and masks are required at all times unless actively eating/drinking. Resorts and hotels require masks in crowded public areas, but guests can freely enjoy outdoor gardens, beaches, and pools. Tour groups sizes remain smaller with distancing protocols in place. Cruise lines typically require PCR tests for all guests within 72-hrs, in-port rapid testing before boarding, and daily temp checks. Safety instructions are broadcast in cabins prior to sail away, with guests required to check-in by phone with codes, or in person at their lifeboat stations… If you have any questions about travel or would like to discuss planning your next amazing vacation experience, Schedule a Call at bit.ly/TravelChatwithKaren.” ---Sept 2021

The Best HR Insights from 2021… By Kimberly Lundy “The Coronavirus pandemic impacted virtually every aspect of our lives socially, professionally, and economically. We have had to adjust to change with business being no exception. In 2020, Business leaders faced a myriad of challenges from complying with mandatory lockdowns, occupancy restrictions, implementing safety protocols while strategizing on how to keep businesses operational. For many, this translated into loss of business, reduction of staff, and a decline in revenue. With the rollout of the COVID vaccine in 2021, there is a renewed sense of hope. Lockdowns have been lifted, facility occupancy capacity numbers have risen while many safety protocol requirements like social distancing, Personal Protective Equipment, and sanitation remain. Business leaders continue to face unprecedented Human Resources challenges with staffing being at the top of the list. Many businesses are finding it difficult to secure the talent needed resulting in critical roles going unfilled. The National Federation of Independent Business found in a March survey of its members that 42% had job openings they could not fill.
Recruitment Strategies Pause, didn’t we just say that unemployment has been historically high due to the pandemic? This leads us to ask, why would businesses be finding it hard to hire? Business owners report that the increase in unemployment benefits provided by the Cares Act has resulted in many workers waiting longer to take accept a job…”---June 2021
