The new standard in vacuum cooling!


General Pre-cooling Vacuum cooling offers as “pre-cooling” technology important advantages for the shelf life of iceberg lettuce, leafy vegetables, root vegetables, flowers & more. There is no other method that can cool faster and more efficiently – especially with pre packed products ! Not only does vacuum cooling improve the shelf life, it also shortens the time-to-market (“same-day delivery” possible), gives you more constant cold store temperatures and the possibility to keep products in stock longer for when needed. Vacuum cooling is by far the most energy efficient cooling method: during cooling only 2,5 to 4 kWh is used per pallet load!

Technology The ambient temperature products are placed in an air-tight vessel. After the door has been closed, all the air is sucked out from the vessel and the air pressure is reduced to a level where the moisture within the products starts evaporating spontaneously. The process of evapora­ting extracts heat from the products and as a consequence these are cooled down! As the air pressure is the same in the entire space, products are cooled down uniformly. Fields of application Versatile Vegetables & fruits can rapidly age and decompose once harvested and it is these products that benefit most from a fast removal of field heat by vacuum cooling. The best results are achieved when the products are cooled down within 2 hours after harvesting – this can only be done by vacuum cooling. Standard advice is to pre-cool up to 7/8 of the storage temperature, and achieve the final cooling down in the cold storage. For example, if you harvest in the field at 25 °C and your storage temp is 1 °C, your advised pre-cooling temperature will be 4 °C. Vacuum cooling as a “pre-cooling” technology is ideally suited for products with a large surface-toweight ratio. But also other, more compact products can be perfectly cooled in this manner. The bigger the relative area of the product, the more rapid the cooling speed. An example of products which can be perfectly cooled down with vacuum cooling are: • • • • • • • • •

Models Standards and made to measure Our standard range consists of: A complete integrated two/three pallet system with sliding door. Extremely compact and very fast to load and unload. Also suitable for flower pallets. A 3 to 12 pallet system where the pallets are placed one behind the other in one row. Suitable for pallet dimensions of 80 x 120 cm, 100 x 120 cm and 120 x 120 cm. A 4 to 12 pallet system where two rows of Euro pallets can be placed side by side. These systems give you the highest value for money. Customer specific systems (from 1 pallet to 2 aircraft pallets) can also be supplied, according to your specific requirements. The larger systems can be delivered with roller belt systems for high speed pallet handling. Machines can be supplied with 1 or 2 doors. As a standard we deliver horizontal sliding doors. Manual hinged doors or hydraulically lifting doors can be supplied as an option. The cooling capacity is adapted to the amount of product to be cooled, the maximum evapo­ra­tion speed and temperature conditions. For certain types of products we can install a “Hydrovac” system as an option, whereby during the process water is injected in the cooling chamber (to enhance product cooling during the cycle for dry and dense produce). Our advanced software system controls the cycle based on temperature, time and vacuum pressure, allowing us to precisely control the optimal conditions to effi­ci­ ently cool and protect the product until finish cooled. The units are made of pre-fab isolation panels of all sizes. The core consists of the CFC-free polystyrene EPS100-SE, PU, PIR or Rockwool. The refrigeration installations are fully designed and built according to the latest environmental requirements, with the latest refrigerants.
