A Message from Mary Lou The Cobb School’s Country Fair is not only a community favorite, it’s one of my favorites as well. The origins of the Fair began when current parents conceptualized, then organized, an afternoon of crafting, learning and celebrating all things wholesome, organic and child-led. Our Country Fair is designed in the spirit of the Montessori philosophy. That’s what makes it so special. Please mark your calendars for this year’s County Fair on October 15 and try to find a way to participate in this community event. Country Fair chairpersons and booth leaders will be reaching out for support, and I hope everyone will be able to contribute to the event in his or her own unique way. Here’s to a spectacular autumn, Mary Lou

The Cobb School Thanks... ...everyone who joined us for Tuesday morning’s Parent Coffee and those who attended the first session of Uma Ramani’s Discipline Course. Parent Education is vitally important to understanding your child’s Montessori experience and building the parent-school relationship. Thank you for taking time to attend our offerings.

A Window into Their World Maria Montessori wrote, “there is a mathematical relationship between the beauty of his surroundings and the activity of the child; he will make discoveries rather more voluntarily in a gracious setting than in an ugly one.” Beauty is both an important element of the Montessori philosophy and a priority at The Cobb School. Please click the ACORN to the right to enjoy a window into your child’s week at school. This slideshow captures the beautiful flowers that adorn our indoor and outdoor classrooms. You will see the beauty that surrounds our children as they learn and grow. Click acorn to view slideshow.

Teacher Message Board “Establishing lasting peace is the work of education; all politics can do is keep us out of war.” ~Dr. Maria Montessori At The Cobb School, Montessori we are committed to growing powerful global citizens and responsible stewards of our environment. It has become commonplace to say that we now live in a global village. There is no questioning that this is our reality and will increasingly be our children’s reality. A long preparation is necessary if we are to graduate the kinds of mature personalities that can solve the challenges of our times. This preparation begins in early childhood. Our curriculum at all levels highlights the development of a deep understanding of and respect for our global cultures and religions, and for the natural world in which we all live as one human family. This past Wednesday was the United Nations International Day of Peace. The day was honored in our classrooms with the reading of biographies and research of famous peacemakers such as Jane Goodall, Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King, Jr. and Maria Montessori. Children learned about the International Peace Day Symbol (the dove of peace), the history of this day and of the Peace Bell being rung at the UN in New York. The bell was cast in Japan and is made from coins collected by children from all over the world. At noon yesterday our entire Elementary gathered for a minute of silence and wished for peace, together with thousands of others doing likewise across the globe. Gerry Leonard

From the Admissions Desk Here at The Cobb School, Montessori we know that our current & past parents do our greatest admissions work. We often receive inquiries from prospective parents who have heard wonderful things about our school from people like you. We appreciate your good work on behalf of The Cobb School & never take our parents’ positive reviews for granted. We truly hope you will speak freely and generously about your family’s experience at Cobb. On Wednesday, September 28 at 9am, we will host our first Open House of the year. We have begun the important work of welcoming prospective students in select classes this year and all classes for the 2012-2013 school year. Please feel welcome to direct your friends & neighbors our way. Please click here to learn about ways to save money on a Cobb School logo item!
