A Message from Mary Lou Montessori fans are having such fun these days. Truly, it has been tremendously exciting watching Montessori take flight over the past year. In our small part of the world it might seem Montessori is merely a drop in the sea of school choice, but in reality Montessori is a raging river and we are basking in its delta. New Montessori schools are springing up while established ones are shoring up or expanding. Parents in cities such as Cincinnati and Milwaukee have lined up for hours, even days, to secure coveted spots in Montessori magnet schools, and independent Montessori schools have added elementary and middle school programs. Right now there are 16 Montessori high schools in the U.S., and you can count on that number climbing. Those of us long-committed to the Montessori philosophy smile and ask, “Is it any wonder?” And I hope you now count yourself among those smiling faces. In October Steven Hughes told us we can be proud because we were into Montessori before it was cool. Although cool is not the goal, it certainly is fun to be in-the-know. Be assured, Montessori is education for the 21st century. It creates independent, innovative thinkers and doers. Children who are respected and valued grow up to respect and value others. Schools that create a climate where learning is in and regurgitation is out will shape the future. Communities that believe education begins at birth and that the precious period of childhood is brief and formative will change the world. Championing Montessori is perhaps the greatest thing we can do for the children on this planet. I hope you will share in that mission and have fun while you’re at it.

A Window into Their World Last week’s fastdraw “Superwoman was already here” drew such rave reviews that we’re delivering a similar one today. Please enjoy Trevor Eissler’s “Montessori Madness.” 123, 859 views and counting. Just this week it was translated into Indonesian! Add that to the list! If you loved last week’s video, you’ll love this one as well. Bravo, Click the ACORN Mr. Eissler! to view slideshow.
